look up the 6600gt pci express. it's MUCH cheaper. but it only work if you have a PCIexpress slot on your motherboard. if you only and agp slot, and some regular pci slots, you're out of luck. only the most recent motherboards have pci 16x slots

I just got a new computer yesterday and ive got an ASUS geforce 6600GT pci-express; it cost me £110. so thats about $240? It's a good graphics card, it runs battlefield 2 on the high graphics settings, but you also need a good processor. I'd recommend pci-express aslong as your Mainboard supports it, and aslong as your PSU has enough power. Even if its AGP, the 6600GT's are a good mid range card. If its worth looking into, try to get an xfx 6600GT. It's the best mid range card out there.

PS. Is it worth me getting Halo:CE for the pc, i mean is it any fun to play online?

whatever you do, DONT get an ati radeon card

and halo CE is really worth it, unlimited capabilities, no cheating (you only play wit modders if you want to) and no foul-mouthed 8 year olds screaming into a microphone about your mother

how wrong you are about radeon's. they don't have camo issues with halo, most of them don't need an extra power connection, and most of them don't block another empty pci slot. the radeon X800 XL is about as powerful as the 6600 GT, and it's as low as $250. you can get the 512 MB variety for some extra $.

Indeed, it's safe to assume he has no idea what the hell he is talking about. I'd question why he feels they are poor, as mine kicks the crap out of every card save for the 7800. ATi Radeon cards are equal in quality to nVidia GeForce cards.

If you're building a new pc, go PCI-express. It will let you upgrade further down the road should you want to. AGP is fine if you are just upgrading, but it's lifespan is severely dwindling.

i think ATi has a sweepstakes right now, where you could win an X850 XT Platinum Edition AGP. check out www.ati.com to find out more.

Make sure you get an SLI ready card, some older ones don't support it.

$240 is a little more than you could have paid... if you're doing the conversion right.

I don't know how much extra it is to have an SLI-ready card, but (and forgive me chewy), SLI is NOT cost-effective. Two 6600GT's in an SLI setup on an Asus A8N run only slightly better than a single 6800 Ultra.

iIve also heard that SLI is dependent on the games and software to support the configuration to get any performance benefits. You should have gotten a crossfire ready motherboard. You can use any existing X800 or X850 series radeon card with a crossfire edition X800 or X850. No need to match the exact same model, such as 2 6600 GT's. From my understanding after reading about crossfire on ATi's website, you could mix an X800 XL with an X800 XT PE Crossfire editon. This allows for more flexible upgrades, so you don't have to spend $1000+ on 2 of the same exact card.

I was just saying that so he wouldn't get two non ready cards and an SLI mobo. Is crossfire out? I didn't think any of the cards were out yet.
