if ur a real comp techi u can go to tigerdirect.com and put one together, they have barebone kits that have towers, motherboard, memory, fans, good processors, and maybe more, if you upgraded ur old computer then u could put in ur old video card, audio card, etc....im gettin one w/ 2.93 ghz processor, MSI P4MAM2-V Via Socket 478 Micro ATX Motherboard (dunno how to tell if motherboards are good), good coolin fan, and 256 mhz of memory.....plus i have practically a brand new video card and sum extra memory to swap in........guess how much the comp is $130!!!!

Its not a 939 *frowns* Its 754.

But thanks for your support! My cruddy ATI Mobility Radeon 9000/9100IGP (yes thats right IGP, INTERGRATED graphics processor) can play the campaign at 9fps. The main reason I want to build it is because Age of Empires III is coming out and I want to be able to play it.

oh BTW, newegg.com is WAY cheaper than tigerdirect.com

TigerDirect is reliable and they sell more stuff than newegg. If I can't find it on newegg, I go with TigerDirect. Do you have an nforce4 northbridge?

obviously, since the lowest chip that uses 939-pin is an Athlon 64 3000+, he is using a socket 754, which is fine.

i would get a different motherboard. probably a Asus, Abit, or MSI.

You also forgot to get windows, which will throw your overall price up about 90 bucks.

I have a copy that my mom bought and never installed on her computer (she thought that the computer was trashed, but basically had to restart it in safe mode. by the time i did that, she had already bought a copy, which wal mart refused to take back)

I never said Tiger Direct is a crappy place, its just I tend to find better deals on newegg.com and they have great customer service.

It does have a nVidia Nforce 4 northbridge, why?

Any help would be greatly appreciated (this will be my first computer build).

Check the motherboard stats You want to try to get the 939pin and the nVidia GForce 4 chipset. They stopped making 754 processors but the 939 line is still being produced, so you will be able to upgrade to better chips in the future.

Wait til you see Halo on that 6600GT :)

Be sure your motherboard pin count and your processor pin count are the same. They should both be 754 if I am seeing your setup correctly, which means that a PCI-e card will not work [754 uses AGP].

Just be sure everything matches - right now it doesn't...

That looks like a 754 pin PCI mobo to me. It could be that SLD is slipping or that it's brand new and he hasn't seen any. PCIe x1 is slots that are going to be used for other cards(LAN, Sound cards, etc.) but I don't think they have come out with any yet.

OK newegg stoped selling my processor forcing me to upgrade. How ironic. For only 30$ more I can have a better one. Look at my new one and give suggestions if youd like.

Upgraded Comp

1 - I was just making sure it was an nForve 4 mobo. I didn't see him mention it before, so I was making sure. 95% of 754 mobos use AGP. However, a few have PCI-e. Some 939 mobos have AGP. I know this, he just never gave a model number, which is more descriptive.

2 - Way better. One suggestion I have is to get a hard drive like this one. It has a 16MB cache - cache is one of the best ways to give a boost in performance. It's a little more, but man, it is blazing fast. It's one of the fastest on the market today, only topped by a few others. Will you notice a performance increase? Windows as well as games will load faster and any hard drive activity at all will be speedier.

Yep I'd go with that. In fact, you got the almost the same mobo as me and paid $40 less. I went with Asus so I paid more.

Don't worry SLD I haven't lost faith in you. :)

Thanks for all of your help! (alot more helpful than aoe3.heavengames.com)

I should be ordering the parts a little after school starts ( next week) (my mom wants me to wait to see if I can make a "project" out of it for my A+ class).

Ill let you know how it turns out.

nforce 4 northbridge is awesome. You really want a 939 pin CPU, though - less voltage, less heat, better bandwidth, yada-yada - it's just better. Kinda like how the T-Bred replaced the Palomino Core shortly after its introduction. But I digress. It'd be nice to have a faster hard drive, but you'll only notice the difference in speed on system startup and when you start some programs. Most programs / games run from memory and stuff.

Like SLD said - the HD is nice if you can spring for it.

Also - I've never heard of that Motherboard company. I recommend Mach Speed to everyone though. No other Mother Board is Made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty. But - like I said, if budget's your thing, then go with what works for you. Nice Box - happy building! Let us know if you need anything else!
