Week in Review
Welcome back to the Week in Review. Since the pilot of this revamped newsletter a fortnight ago, much has happened around Bungie.net.
54-style Revisited.
Not long ago, Moderator Recon Number 54 ran a brand new organisational concept through the Flood Forum. The idea of a master sticky pertaining to all threads of interest and importance was beta tested for a time, all the while collecting feedback off loyal community members. At first it was met with nothing but acclaim but ultimately was decided against. However, Recon’s efforts were anything but in vain; Chapters throughout the Column, including Chapter Founders itself, lapped up the idea and implemented it immediately. And, alongside his numerous other attempts to improve the community for all, earned him a promotion from regular Forum Ninja to the even more distinguished title of Master Forum Ninja, a title which experienced Ninja Yoozel also attained. Congratulations!
Recon’s second recent contribution was to those amongst us who simply adore the reading and writing of fan fiction; a fanfic directory! Remember kids, only post if you’ve a story to add; if you’re just looking for a good read, have a browse through and select the narrative which you’ll most enjoy. Of course, the fanfic-lovin’ doesn’t end there – don’t forget to check out any fanfic Chapters on bungie.net and the appropriate sections on bungie.org.
Yoozel’s note, we’ll be getting a down home interview with Recon soon and the official results are in.
Chapter Founders
So what’s new in CF?
For a start, lots of you have contributed to our Chapter Reviews thread; thanks for that and we’ve analysed a number of them. As mentioned before, we’re currently trying out the master sticky idea, you can find the thread here and, this is the more important part, leave your feedback here (in handy monthly poll form). All opinions are valued so don’t forget to at least vote, even if you don’t intend to post reasoning.
Any struggling founders will be delighted to hear that Team ACS is back with a vengeance. The crack team of experienced Founders work together, Chapter by Chapter, to share their boundless knowledge with others and help build up a new generation of Awesome Chapters. So, if you’re desperate and just feel like yelling out for assistance, now’s your chance to get it. Drop ACS a line either in the appropriate thread in CF or in their Chapter’s news. Be polite about it though, they don’t owe you anything and their help is a privilege. =)
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for; after a gargantuan hiatus spanning the entire life of the new 7th Column, Chapter Founders is proud to announce GameJunkieJim’s Bungie Jumpers as the latest addition to our Awesome Chapters Resource. Rarely these days can you find a Chapter that combines maturity and fun in one successful brew; Bungie Jumpers does just this. It is primarily a close, friendly and open community in which to make friends. Childish fights are non-existent, although expect to see plenty of catfights and handbag-bashing between some of the so-called veterans. So, please, a big hand to Jim and his Jumpers for this marvellous achievement. Well done.
Returning to the Chapter Reviews issue, the staff are reviving COTW (Chapter of the Week), and this week the award goes to Reiginko’s Body Politic. Body Politic is a highly organised chapter with the sole intention of allowing intelligent political discussions otherwise banned on the main b.net forums. Little to no flaming ever occurs, any issues that do rise are either argued out sensibly or dealt with appropriately. The members are usually wise enough to carry on a good discussion, which makes this chapter more than just a place that you should check out. Congratulations Body Politic.
There have been plenty of suggestions for potential site changes and new Group Themes.
Synthmilk suggests an increase of the Security Role limit to help manage larger Chapters, and would also like to be able to keep members in one user group but give them different titles.
kingrazor001, amongst others, suggests an old-school Chapter master list, so users can sort through Chapters to find one right for them. He also believes a pistol theme would be a good addition to the current assortment.
mower would like to see next-gen consoles; I’m not sure about the PS3 and next Nintendo console, but I’m sure the Xbox 360 will be getting it’s very own theme in due course.
kato369 thinks that a Hunter theme would be suitable.
dark 1 4 life has begun work on a weapons theme, we hope to hear and see more as the development continues.
In the Septagon, Sameck suggests a news archive feature; but would be willing to use his articles and/or custom resources to house important news articles.
Well done guys, and remember, everyone is welcome to post their own suggestions either in the Septagon or in the appropriate threads in Chapter Founders. If you’d like to use any of the Theme ideas to build your own, go ahead! The whole point of suggesting is, after all, to see the concepts developed and hopefully implemented into the site.
Elsewhere
The ever-expanding Bungie empire goes beyond the confines of Bungie.net, as demonstrated by such massively successful fansites as Subnova and bungie.org. So it just has to be good news that snowmanaxt’s Bungie Fans Online is the latest of these fansites to come along. Expect loads of great content and a fresh community, as well as some old faces to be around, and go ahead and have a look around! It’s only in it’s infancy so don’t expect massive things, but with your help it will grow into something special and unique.
Thus concludes this Week in Review. Chapter Founders is still changing, and you’re more than welcome to post suggestions in our Forum. If you have any queries or additions regarding the Week in Review, or indeed CF, please send them to cfounders@gmail.com. To all those Founders out there, keep up the good work, and don’t be afraid to ask for help; it’s always available if you need it! Until next time.
This article brought to you by Chapter Founders, the original hawt spot for help with Chapters and all things concerning them. Come visit us for the most in-depth help you can find anywhere on the 7th Column.
