You either need to update halo to 1.0.4, or you have an nvidia chip that doesn't support some of those features. Or, it could be both situations, like what I have. Go to the gearbox site for the update, or macsoft if you have the mac version.

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." Albert Einstein
"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." Gandhi

Do you know what card you have?

The comp most likely came with some generic card. You WILL need to upgrade to play any good games.

These are DirectX 9 features, so you need a DX9 card. That's Radeon 9200 + or the NVIDIA GeForce FX series.

My Dad's GeForce 4 Ti4200 works fine with them, and I don't think that's a DX9 card is it?

Why doesn't anyone read a bloody post!
I think you'll find that the 8500 is a DX8 card.

Is specular on though?

Alright, I'm stupid so I need help
How do I check what kind of video card I have?

  • 05.02.2004 7:54 PM PDT

There are a few ways, but the easiest is probably to go to Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Display. It should tell you which graphics card you have in the Name field.

Yeah it works fine with specular on using either the 2.0 shaders (before I knew how to change them) and the 1.1 shaders.

I thought I already told you im running on a mac I dont use DX!!! and my grahpics card dos not suck its awsome, ive played other games with pixel and vertex shadrers and the work fine but halo wont let me turn it on!!!!!! please help me!!!!!!!!!!

  • 05.03.2004 5:42 AM PDT

Sorry, I don't know what the Mac equivalent is.
But you've got to face facts - your card does suck. Since the Radeon 8500 there has been the entire 9000 series.

And I guess the GeForce 4 Ti4200 has DX9 features, although it surprises me.

Yeah I though the Geforce 4 ti4200 was a DX8.something at best, maybe the features are DX8 and above? I don't know.

Also does anyone know when the X800s are coming out? I've looked at a lot of articles but I can't really find a release timeframe.
