I'm not a techy so i dont exactly know what NAT is, but it just gives me a message on reach saying "your NAT is closed matchmaking may be slow" so im concerened cuz my XBL randomly disconnects on me which is -blam!- annoying. My gameplay isn't slow though, so I'm really confused so imma fix it anyways... somehow... Anyways thanks for the tips/info!

I've tried everything, yet my NAT is still closed. My router is a Netgear one.

I had all the ports forwarded, my Xbox's IP (which is static) as the default DMZ, and then I had UPnP on.
Though the article said that they all sort of cancel each other out, so I removed all port forward settings and turned off UPnP.

I reset my router and modem, and restarted my Xbox.
Still have a strict NAT.

Help? I've been trying to fix this for a long time, and this is becoming very tedious and frustrating.

All good things,in all good time!

I have multipal xbx's and 1 would get mod/strict. so I Bought a D-Link DGL-4500 Gaming Router and all my NAT troubles are gone. Don't have to forward or open anything for both box's to get the openNAT.Plug and Play! Best Router for Gamers!

My nat type was open now it is moderate someone has an idea why this happened?

I had my xbox port forwarded and working fine for several years but recently it has gone to strict. It says its open when no static IP is up, but cannot connect to any of my friends, and when I have a static IP and have tried all of the options it gives me a strict NAT, with UPnP, DMZ or port forwarding. I have a DIR 300 and know my way around routers. Any suggestions?

Hey you guys, just a little FYI, I haven't posted in years, but I'm so stoked. I just reached ONYX on Reach over a Verizon Mifi, with a 1.2-2.2mb connection. This does have port forwarding, but I've never been able to have an open NAT.

So there you go, people with NAT issues, it's still possible to have fun and dominate on a crap connection, with a moderate NAT.

I didn't even know about this, but my NAT is always open. I'll check this out later *Thread Saved*

My Xbox wont work in static. I enter the information I got from ipconfig/all and changed the ips last digit to 50/150/109 even 100 which is what its set to automatically. But for whatever reason nothing works. Advice?

I've been having difficulties with matchmaking the past couple of days, and it was mostly due to my NAT setting. It was on closed and I wondered why since all my settings were optimal and nothing seemed wrong. Digging through the forums I eventually found your thread, and I found out that all I had to do was simply test my network settings. :S

Thanks for the thread!

Can someone explain to me why everytime my NAT is off, I just usually turn on and off the UPnP and Restore the xbox to its default settings, it turns my NAT from off to on?

1. You have to open ports 88 and 3074.
2. Copy and paste default ip into address bar
3. You can find the username or pass in your manual for your router, or on the bottom of the router.
4. You will enter the main config page, make sure UPnP is enabled
5. For 'header' go to Applications and Gaming
6. For your option click Port Range Forward(ing)
7. For application type xbox
8. For 'start ~ end port' type '88 to 88'
9. For protocol make sure it is set for 'both'
10. For 'To IP Address' you will take your ip address, and add ten to the last digit. So instead of 777.777.7.7 it would be 777.777.7.17, for explanation sake.
11. You want the enabled box checked
12. Repeat steps 7-11 except for step 8, open port 3074.
13. Now on your xbox 360, go to System Settings>Network Settings>Configure Network>Manual
14. Fill in your subnet mask, gateway, and for ip address use the one you made, where you added ten to the last digit.

It's actually really easy

I read through the main post like 3 times and couldnt figure it out, then after reading this I did it in under a minute. Thank you.

Wow i think i managed to do this and it wasn't as hard as i thought it was going to be thankx.

I got a new router that was suppose to be compatible but was giving me a moderate nat so i followed this and it now says open. Still need to see if i can or can't join one of my friends with closed nat tho.
