Help! I'm really stuck! It's probably something minor but when I try this stuff I always get lost, or do something wrong.

I'm up to the last paragraph of the first post, and I have change the IP to static, and filled in everything that I wrote down earlier, however, should the IP address I typed into the computer be the same as the one I typed into the Xbox? Right now it is slightly different.

Secondly, what is the 'local' IP? Is it the IPv4 or the Default Gateway, because when I type in the IPv4 it doesn't give me the user/password screen.
Edit: I wrote 2 paragraphs, but for some reason they didn't show up o.O Just wait for my next edit...

Edit 2: Okay, so for the first bit, the static IP on your xbox should be different than the static IP on your computer. Otherwise you'd have 2 machines on one network with the same address. If it's slightly different then you're fine.

The second part you may or may not need to look up. Portforward.com will tell you the default IP of your router. Just go to porforward.com, select your router, skip the ad, choose xbox live 360, and go down to the step where you open your router settings. They should tell you there what the default is. For example, when I do that with my D-Link DI 524, it tells me the default is 192.168.0.1. You could also try that before you do anything fancy, because I've had other routers with that same default IP.

After that, just follow the steps in the guide (or portforward.com, either works) and you should be good!

There is an Xbox.com page that tells which ports to open. The six ports are halfway down the page.

i am geting the new xbox 360 slim will it do this for me?

Na, It's to do with your router, not your XBOX. How's the slim working for you?

With this shield or on it.

so should i put each of those ports as the starting and ending port? or should i open those specific ports in the QoS section?

Anthony

I've tried the first guide and the second and it still is strict!

Brilliant, I know a few people who could benefit from this. Because I'm tired of hosting everything. ;)

I have a problem in that I only have one DNS number, yet when I try and enter the same number for both it won't let me and says the two DNS numbers have to be different.

I'm too afraid that something will go wrong and I'll taste pwnage from my dad.

But wierd thing: In MW2 it says i'm Open, but in Halo 3 it says Strict.

I know for a fact that my dad DID open the ports a while back, so I don't know if it's just our slow internet connection (we live in the middle of no where) or what.

Best test is go to Dashboard and use "Test Xbox Live Connection". That will tell you for sure. (If the test goes through and you don't get any message at the end, it means your NAT is open).

I stopped reading when I saw that my NAT is open. Good luck to everyone else.

I'll be on my own side.

A couple questions. One, are you absolutely sure UPnP has to be disabled for port forwarding to work? Or would I have to disable it if I used DMZ? And two, my router uses DHCP to automatically assign IPs to the devices on my network. So I set my Xbox's IP to 192.168.0.77, yet the DHCP is like "no gtfo I'm giving it 192.168.0.100". What gives?

Seems like I'd have to disable that and have everything on my network use a static IP. Is that true? Because that would be annoying.

Thank you so much. This was a huge help. For years I had to suffer with a Moderate Nat. I couldn't even play with my friends. Thanks to you I easily fixed it now, and I didn't even make my internet asplode! You deserve not only a cookie but also a parade! Thank you!

± Ðîvïñ£ ƒÁ†h£R ±

I have my Xbox connected through the DMZ, UPnP is disabled, and it still says I have a strict NAT. Could the problem be that I'm wirelessly connected to my wireless router?

  • 07.27.2010 8:47 PM PDT

I've played Halo since I was a young boy but I was never into the community until I bought Halo 3, in March 2008, along with my first Xbox 360.

I also make machinimas with my friends over at that URL. Have fun!

Thank you.. so much.. Just a quick tip you can add:

I have the model Belkin F5D7230-4, a wireless router, and I followed all the steps, until the very end, where it says to open all the ports. Belkin, uses the "88" port, and when I entered it, it says I could not use it, because it will "conflict with my internet service provider".

So, using my l33t hacking skills, I put 87-89, (and for anyone who doesn't understand, it's generally the same as the OP puts it, so instead of putting 88-88 for the spots, you put 87 in the first one, then 89 in the second one, etc.) and it worked PERFECTLY.

While you don't have to be specific about my router's model, you should put a tip saying "If you get an error saying you cannot use a specific port number, try putting the numbers around it" (or however you wish to say it).

Thread saved, thanks!

Okay, I'll try that. Thanks.

Edit:

So I tested my connection, and just like in the OP it didn't mention the word NAT. But that still doesn't explain why in Halo 3 the game says I'm strict or whatever it says.
