I am the Guardian of Life,
I am the Angel of Death.

Thanks dude. At first, I was worried I would screw something up. But then I had no problems and this guide was fairly easy to follow.

This is too hard, I give up on my strict nat forever... too complicated for a nub like me.

  • 07.28.2010 10:53 PM PDT

Just reset your router & unplug your modem for like a min then restart it & plug in ur modem & it should say open

  • 07.29.2010 12:44 PM PDT

it doesnt mention NAT during the test, but it acts strict when I play?

  • 07.30.2010 5:07 AM PDT

Wort Wort Wort!

wow i gotta make sure any of my moderate or strict connection friends see this!

Wort Wort Wort!

the easiest way ive seen to tell what my NAT is is to get on modern warfare 2 multiplayer and on the left of the lobby for multiplayer it tells you your NAT, its really helpful beause it lets you know if you need to do something about your router or not

  • 07.30.2010 6:38 AM PDT

I've been trying to open my NAT and everytime I tried it ended up failing.
I think the problem's related with my router itself. The router is called Xavi 7868r. Made by Amper

I'd aprecciate if you could help me

LOL, real rap is not made for you, white people.

We don't expect you to "get it." And you don't, as you've made abundantly clear through your numerous embarrassing dances, karaoke performances, ignorant haters, and pitiful imitators.

You giving your opinion on rap is like a dog watching TV. It's kind of cute because it LOOKS like he knows what's going on, but you know he really has no actual ability to comprehend it.

excellent thread.
Saved for future win.

I have an open NAT but I still can't connect to certain friends, mostly people that live really close to me...

And does anyone know why I get disconnected from Xbox LIve every 2-3 hours? My computer doesn't lose connection just my Xbox, its really beginning to frustrate me.

"-blam!-" - The most commonly used phrase on Xbox Live.
"Ooooh, pretty blue thing," - My sister said that the first time she saw a live Plasma grenade.

You, my good sir, are a GENEIUS.

A couple questions. One, are you absolutely sure UPnP has to be disabled for port forwarding to work? Or would I have to disable it if I used DMZ? And two, my router uses DHCP to automatically assign IPs to the devices on my network. So I set my Xbox's IP to 192.168.0.77, yet the DHCP is like "no gtfo I'm giving it 192.168.0.100". What gives?

Seems like I'd have to disable that and have everything on my network use a static IP. Is that true? Because that would be annoying.

Disclaimer: I don't work in IT, I just figured out how run my family's network and wrote a guide about it in english and more knowledgable guys advised me in replies.

You didn't say you were having NAT woes, UPnP could work fine for you, but given you are, yes I think so.

I don't really understand:( thanks for putting out there tho!:)

Prove it, WITH SCIENCE!

So i'm not some special tech guy...but when I went to the port forwarding part of my router site there wasn't any link to add a port. I also went to the help page for my router in the link you gave us, and it had the add port button there, and I don't. My page also has a lot of "Networked Computer / Device"s...can anybody help me out. I have a Verizon/Actiontec router if that helps...

Ugh... last time I tried this, i -blam!- up my internet and went out for a while -_-

I'm saving this thread nonetheless, maybe I can talk to someone technical while reading these instructions so I can do it more easily.

I am really well at forging in any Halo game and taking screenshots.

Great thread. Great instructions.

I do essentially this every day for my job helping Deaf people get their networks configured to work with Video Phones. I work with essentially every possible Modem and Router combination there could possibly be in the US so I'm familiar with a broad range of setups. There are no omissions or errors that I can find anywhere in these instructions.

Keep up the amazing work.

Ok, so I followed some of the steps, and when I checked my connection on the Xbox dashboard, it didn't say I have a moderate connection anymore. What does that mean?
