Hello you may find me on the forums quite a bit(:

Saved for a rainy day when my NAT goes closed because i know ill eventually forget how to do it lol.

  • 10.05.2010 12:22 PM PDT

not to burst your genious essay bubble but i have a much easier way of getting my nat from closed to open.
whenever mine goes closed i simply go to the dashboard and test my xbox live connection, after that i go back to the game i was playing and it will say my nat type is open, ta da. Simple.

Is there any way at ALL to get an open nat on your xbox if its plugged into your computers ethernet? I connect to my neighbors internet through my desktop, I have the internet shared and sent to my xbox through ethernet.. But I always have a strict nat and can't seem to get it open. Can someone help me out or PM me a guide for this if it's possible, please?

I answered this already. Forward the ports needed for xbox live on the router to the ip address of your pc.

You shouldn't steal your neighbors internet, however. Get your own connection.

My god it worked! I did the DMZ thing at it opened my nat. Thanks OP :D

  • 10.06.2010 8:52 PM PDT

A little confused for setting it up with my router. I'm confused which ports from the OP go where in my router. I've the static IP set up but the terms used are a little different.

Inbound port
[#]-[#]

Private Port
[#]-[#]

This is a guide to the router I use with pictures of what I've described:
http://www.pcwintech.com/port-forwarding-belkin-f5d7234-4-v1-b elkin-firmware

If anyone could let me know that would be great.

EDIT: url might not work unless you remove a space.

Ok an update on my situation.. I tried ALL of the methods in this thread and NOTHING worked.. But when I used google and was more specific I fixed the problem.

The ONLY thing I had to do was to bridge my connection instead of just the regular sharing it.

My last question tho is, what exactly is bridging? Does it make internet faster? Slower? Is it safe?

Fixed it. Firmware used weird terms and layout but I got help from another source.

You're either first or you're last.

You'll never amount to anything, go back under your bridge.

Current my NAT is open and my packet loss rate is low/excellent. However, my Upstream Bandwidth is 'Warning!'

I'm using a wired connection through a router that is sharing connection with 2 other computers.

I have noticed that at times it takes longer than it should to find a match, and occasionally while playing I get 3-5 very large spikes of lag that prevent me from moving for nearly 5 seconds.

Basically I just do not want to call my ISP :/

Speedtest

Aristotle said it is wrong to do injustice, even in return for it. But he never used Xbox live.

Just thought I'd query the boards afore I tear apart my router.

Logged on tonight and Reach has a pop up that says my NAT is closed and my upload bandwidth is poor, the network screen says my NAT is Moderate and has coloured it yellow.

It's all been green for the last few weeks and now I've got red, yellow green on my network page from top to bottom. I've not changed anything recently or noticed any speed drop offs on my desktop or laptop. Is this a Bungie problem or my problem?

  • 10.10.2010 9:18 AM PDT

A few weeks ago, i found the solution to opening the NAT and it worked.
I used these sites:
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=45148977&p ostRepeater1-p=1
and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979000/en-gb?sd=xbox

But today, I decided that my internet was going too slow;
Downstream: 1170kpbs
Upstream: 96 kpbs

But now i fixed it by calling my supplier and i had to reset the router (button behind the BT home hub; the wireless association)
and now i get

Downstream: 3300+ kpbs
Upstream: 440+ kpbs

A major improvement and i was very happy. I decided to go on Halo reach but the thing is my NAT was now strict!!!
It really annoyed me because i tried using the same sites again, but its still things NAT is strict or moderate.

Please Help!

I also need a step by step guide to doing this espiaclaly on the port fowarding bit because that i have no knowledge what so ever.

  • 10.10.2010 11:08 AM PDT

wuzap pplz lolol
also, c0nz through Bungie Day

did all this and it changed nothing :s
still moderate NAT
we have to open the ports only for our static xbox ip, right?

  • 10.11.2010 6:27 AM PDT

I give up...tried it five times and its still not open. Fml...

  • 10.11.2010 10:13 AM PDT

"Sometimes I like to make up ridiculously emotional and intricate backstories and plots for minesweeper. I've cried playing that game before."

Like every other NAT-opening guide I've seen, this did not help change my NAT. Still closed, just like it has been for like 3 years. So frustrating.

Tried enabling just UPnP, or just forwarding the two main ports (88/3074), forwarding all the six ports listed here, only enabling DMZ, and doing every combination of those possible, then trying all of them with an automatic IP instead of a static.

if you are a verizon customer using a westell modem/router make shure you put the port number in all 3 blanks not just the 2 that say beginning and end...i had problems with that

Can you repeat all of that in English?

  • 10.13.2010 1:32 PM PDT

this is stupid all you have to do is hold down the reset button on the router for 30 seconds then reconfigure which takes 30 sec. reconnect xbox to it and see for yourself.

  • 10.13.2010 2:34 PM PDT

Add me
:)

Woooo!!!
Lovin' my OPEN NAT!!!!!!
Cheers

I'd like to connect more than one xbox on my network to xbox live.

I see that you've noticed that your router won't allow you to open the same port for two different xboxes. We can't work around this at all. Only one xbox per Internet connection can possibly be forwarded the xbox live ports, or inserted directly into a modem.

This is annoying. We hook up two boxes on our internet all of the time and we cannot seem to stay in matches. One of us eventually gets pushed out of the game. It's annoying. With only one box hooked up it says "OPEN", but whenever a second box is hooked up it says "MODERATE" on the 2nd box. Then the issues start.

Can't microsoft build something into XBOX live to account for having multiple XBOXes on a network?

Are you sure there is no single connection work-around to make this work?

Master Chef you are THE man, first of all. You have created the best guide to opening NAT I have ever seen, and you make it so simple!

But PLEASE, save me! Okay, here's the story. I'm from San Diego, but I recently moved to TJ, Mexico, and I play Xbox Live a lot. I recently got my internet set up over here and I can tell there's something wrong with my NAT.

I go to play games on Left 4 Dead 2 and if I enter an 8 person Versus game I can't even connect past the loading screen. It tells me "There was a problem with your connection." or some BS. But I can play 4 player Campaign games. I did some research on the web and found out that error message is the direct result of NAT.

So, me living in Mexico, this is very difficult for me, but I would be able to manage, but I have a particular problem I don't think anyone else has been faced with.

My router is a Huawei EchoLifeHG520c, it's so new in its existence it's not even on that ultimate list of routers. And its predecessors have an option for NAT in the router page, but this one doesn't!! The only option concerning NAT is two ticker boxes. One says "Active" and the other, "Unactive."

I did a lot of research on the internet and it seems others have the same problem as me here in Mexico. I read a guide that explained how to do it and I followed the steps, but I still can't get into any matches on L4D2, and I think it affects how well I find games on my other games too.

There's an option in the Advanced Settings that says "Firewall," and it has an option for Permitting individual applications past the Firewall, and it has a very similar layout to port forwarding, being that you name the application, put All on the protocol, put the starting and ending ports, blah blah blah. So I did this with the four ports and at FIRST I couldn't even log into Xbox Live as it said my MTU Setting wasn't sufficient, but I rearranged the order of the ports according to that guide you posted, and voila, it worked. So now I have the idea that that was exactly what I needed to do. But alas, I STILL cannot get into 8 player games on L4D2, I've spent many hours trying to figure this out and I'm afraid to say I'm on the verge of giving up but I don't want to! Is there anything you can tell me to help me out?

EDIT: And my router is a two in one deal, it is literally the modem and the router put together.

I followed your guide thoroughly and still no open NAT. i have a netgear n300 router. I portforwarded all six ports to my xbox's static ip. no open nat. i try upnp on and off. no open nat. i try dmz. no open nat. i am also connected directly to the router. does my computer have to have a static ip as well? i didnt think that would do anything with my xbox's nat type.

i even plugged it directly into the modem and still no open nat
