I want to address the inactiveness in some of the groups. I go on to check if anyone has posted, but no-one has. I am in at least 21 groups but only 8 of them are active. I try finding other active groups but I can't. Some of the groups I am in have only got something like 3 to 12 members active out of 30. I think some thing has to be done. But I know Bungie have other things to do.
Now below are three groups that are very inactive or Dead and Three Vise Versa.

Inactive or Dead groups:

The Texas Rangers
The Darker Side (My very own group.)
The Prophets of Pie

Active Groups:

Flood Control
Covenant Elite Community
Chapter Founders

I might make a new group and try to make it be active. I am Currently trying to bring a dead Group back.
Sometimes people just join for no reason and don't be active. Some Groups have tons of Members and only have something like 10 or 20 members active.

If your group is inactive post what it is but don't advertise.

Rules:
No Spam
No Advertising

Now when people have done reading this. They might Flame me but thats ok. They should have their say.
Inactiveness is become a large unnoticed problem, I hope it ends soon and the Seventh Column becomes a active, fun and great place.

Eletius.

I agree with you. I join groups occasionally, and when my list gets too big, I just go around to the groups that arent active and leave them. Its not hard, its actually very easy. But what exactly is the problem with inactive groups? You dont have to join them.

Im only in active groups or groups that I know the founder of pretty well. The inactiveness is because most of the activity is in the main forums, where as way back when, the activeness was in the groups.

i think the best way to get anything done or said is in a small group. a group's gotta have meaning and a reason, or it dies. and i kinda disagree on that statement right above this...these main forums are less meaningful then ever; they might have high activity, but it's low quality at best.

and there's not much to be done about that without help from the mods...as we have seen.

Seventh Column Contests

if the groups are inactive then just leave them or try recruiting members that will benefit the group. Most of my groups are very inactive but i dont really cry about it i just go and try to make them active.

I'll be on my own side.

Well, you have to realize that if your group has only like 10 members, it probably wont be very active. Also, if your groups are dying, do NOT make a new one and invite the exact same people, or try to combine all your dead ones. It will just have the same fate. If your group is dead, there was a reason, and making another will not change that.

It is most of the small groups that are dying and as a Founder I know what a dying group is. We have to stop it.

Bad idea. Do it, and I find out, and you'll be permanently banned from this website, without appeal.

Did you know the game Bungie published before Halo, Oni, was a PS2 title?

Did you know a large number of Bungie employees have PS2's as well as Xboxes?

Please, take the fanboi nonsense elsewhere.

Anyhow, regarding idle groups, groups that have been idle for a certain time period eventually go on probation. If there's no activity in that probationary time, the group is deleted.

Ok...

The problem is, is that there is roughly 70-170 groups made a day. Go make a group, check the ID #, leave it, then check again the next day. The # will be a lot higher. Im not saying doing this always, but its the easiest way i know of to check. (only done it twice).

Now the other side to this is duplicates. There are about.. 20-40 groups that are based around making Halo 3 better or halo 2. So all these people are scattered, instead of being combined in one group they are spread out. Some groups have liek 20 members. They WERE active, but because the group is so small the people get tired of talking about the same thing with the same people. And leave. but dont leave the group. There is a group about Battle tactics, there are like 6 more that I know of which have popped up after that one was made. People see a larger groups success and want to also have that. So they duplicate the group, they jsut word things differently.

You dont want to make anymore groups. There is a group for everything out there. You just have to find it. One thing you could do is figure out whether or not your group has a good "theme". What is it about? is teh topic general enough to attract a good crowd. Is the topic relevant. Go read the guide to group making up in the stickies. It really will help. People make groups just to make groups. They want to be known so they try and follow in others footsteps by making a group which they hope will be successful.

One thing you could do is go about to other groups that have the same "purpose" as yours. Figure out which is the most active and has the most people already. Most likely there IS another group like yours. If you find one more active than yours or larger go to the leader and make a deal. Merge yoru group into his, mebe for a special position like ambasador or somehting. that way you still can feel important and that the group is part yours. Then have him go propose this to all the other groups like yours. Get all of them into one. Some people may not want to, they are bent on thinking their group will bounce back, or they just want to be in charge. If your group is the "best" try to get the others into it. Do it tastefully.

Another key point is how hard you work at it. If your the leader of a group you need to be active. at least in the begining. Show yourself and reply to all the posts. Dont be to harsh on people so that they leave or dont wnt to post. Some groups have "rules". Some otehr successful ones dont. It depends on the kind of people you draw in. Aim for the intelligent crowd. Then you cna cut back on rules and leave a lot open to discussion. If the group gets very active and big with many people posting throught the day you will find it hard to reply to everything without making it your sole job. Thats why you ahve other people liek moderatores and such who help. You still need to be seen as the leader by posting, but not all the time. the group should eventually sustain itself. Look at chapter founders, MBT, etc. There are like 7-8 groups over 600 members. They are all fairly active if not very. Then there are groups with like 100-300 members. Also very active. As the leader you have to work. Or dont make a group.

Consolidation. That is they key. We need to get rid of the copy cat groups or duplicates. We need harder working leaders. Better group topics or "purposes". You want to get very active people into your group at first. Then open it up to many otehr people. Those who join will stay if teh group is alive. Not dead. you may want to PM thsoe inactive members asking them to come back and be active.

The last problem is, is that people leave bungie. One of my groups top posters and a very well respected person hasnt been seen in ages. He may have gotten bored or something. He logs in, but we have figured just to check stats or something. He hasnt posted in any groups. I would not be surprised if this was the case for many. People elve bungie and dont bother leaving the gorups. like i said, PM them, if they dont reply in a while, they are most likely gone.

This issue isnt unseen. I have seen it talked about a lot. Follow the guide to group making. make sure your group has some importance. It doesnt have to be to 1000's of people, but at least 50. And make sure its not stupid to where only idiots come in, post, and leave.

Thats my input.. I kinda kept losing my train of thougth troughout it. So if it seems ramblish.. thats why...
