Since there seems to be so many "die hard" Halo 2 fans out there, why not pacify them by at least releasing a "Classic" or "Final" version of Halo 2? One that has all the map packs, fully updated, and an unglitched version. Is this too much to ask? I am sure that everyone who still frequents this section of the forum would be more than supportive of this idea. And hey, Bungie, if you release it at full game price (i.e. $59.99), those fans would be more than happy to buy a new copy of the game. The coding would not be that difficult if you re-release the game. You could add 360 achievements if you really feel like it, but most of the work is already done for you (see Windows version).

Let's say that you decide that you still do not want to support such an old and "ancient" game. Because it was all coded to prevent you from having more than 100 friends and yadda yadda yadda. Personally, I still have my old Map Pack disk (I'm a pack rat, sue me), so I can install that on as many systems as I have. Original and 360 alike. But there are those people out there who got their system back from Microsoft for repairs (insert reason here) and now they are totally bummed that they can no longer download the maps. They can update to version 1.5, but who cares? The maps are no longer available. If you re-release Halo 2 (we'll use the Windows version for this example since it is already re-hashed), you can still show your support to your dedicated fanbase while complying with Microsoft so that they can update Xbox Live and give us more than 100 friends on our friend list.

(By the way, I want everyone here to see that I am calling it right now, it is going to be about 3 years before Microsoft fixes that little 'bug' and lets us get past 100.)

What do you say Bungie? The work is already pretty much done for you. Port the PC version to 360, the graphics are not much more demanding, the coding is yours already so there can be no surprises, you could piggyback online game play off the PC servers that are no where near the population that they were on the original servers. And I know for a fact that it can be done because Final Fantasy XI works on the same servers as the PC, 360 and PS2/3 versions. Not to mention there are other PC/360 games that play on the same servers.

It really does not seem like a difficult decision, as a GameStop employee, I know for a fact that the game would sell like hotcakes at breakfast (and as a fat guy, I know how well those sell). Shoot, you could even plug your sales by giving away Mark 1 armor for Halo: Reach with the purchase or reservation of Halo 2 SupaClassic Edition. Now featuring more red versus blue hatred, and introducing the new white versus black, with even more gray in between! (I am so copyrighting that.)

And by the way, anyone who votes for number 8 in the poll obviously did not read this post and is not taking this seriously, so their vote can be thrown out and/or discarded.

So, what do you say Bungie? You put in little to no effort porting the game over, re-sell what's already done and completed, sell it for full price and you guys make out like bandits while keeping your fans happy and turning a decent profit. Sounds like a win/win situation to me. Granted, not everyone would like the full sized price tag on the game. But for a re-port of a game that you have declared dead, but now includes (proper) wide screen, all the maps and patches, online and achievements if you really feel like it...

Sounds like a fair price to me. But hey, I don't work for you guys so what do I know.

Right?

Honestly, no one would really buy it. It's too old and most people don't really know how awesome of a game it was.

Honestly, I have never been a big Halo fan. I hated the first game, the only reason I played the second was because you could have two weapons and have independent control over them (which was amazing at the time). The multiplayer online was fun because it was impressive that there was little to no lag (most of the time).

I just thought it would be cool to get some achievements for the game and knowing Bungie, they would include it to the expanding Halo Waypoint. The game was amusing and it is outdated. But after browsing some of the comments from people who were "upset" (to put it lightly) on this and other forums, I thought this sounded like a pretty decent idea. Plus, if they decided to re-release it, they could patch the game a lot easier than the original version. Which was not designed to accept patches, just maps.

Halo 2 for Life!

Dude If they re-did it they would make a mess of it, trying to put new crap features in it and such (what they did for H3 and now for Hreach type of features). Yo give me the original XBL supported Halo2 game. No more of these polls please... You should make a option on this poll, saying I dont want 1 million and one poll stop asking people about if they want H2 redone or on the market place, pull a poll up from the past and comment and vote. My answer is No, I dont, I want the original game supported by XBL. If it's possible to transfer the game without changing it at all, then their is a possibility but right now it seems to not be possible from what they are saying and others as well. I'm not going to repay for a game I have and they are suppose to be supporting (suppose to because if they want loyalty to their brand that is what they would be doing, supporting their old games and especially the bread winner of the bunch H2).

They can not continue to support the game on XBL because the coding that it uses to go online is the old code and Microsoft wants to update XBL and make it better, but as long as they HAVE to support the old code, they can not update XBL with new coding. Which is why I was asking, if they re-released the game, not adding in new features (basically porting the PC version to 360) but only redesigned the online to support the new XBL code or use the PC servers taht already exist, would anyone buy it?

Unlike a lot of gaming companies out there, Bungie loves to brag that they listen to their fans and (get this) they actually DO! Threads like this one, that actually take things seriously, are what Bungie wants to see and read. They want REAL feedback from their customers. If you don't want to buy the game again, fine. Boycott it, that is exactly what people did for Left 4 Dead 2. Which was a horrible game to release because Valve/EA rushed the release and even the game producers stated "it should not have been released this early." But, Valve/EA listened to the fans, patched the game and are trying their damnedest to fix their fu... mistake.

Okay, let's say Bungie re-released Halo 2 for 360 and slapped a nice $19.99 sticker price on the game. I guarantee that you would buy a new copy of the game. Because if you are as much of a fan of Halo 2 as you are claiming to be, you would do it. And if you say otherwise, you are nothing more than a whiny liar.

I am a Legend of Zelda (original) fan and I have the original NES copy of the game, a GameBoy Advance copy, both promotional disks for the GameCube, and the game downloaded on my Wii system. A true fan will always buy another copy of a game if their original fails to work anymore, or they can no longer use the system it was originally released for. Or if the newer copy is more convenient.

Want more proof? Marvel Vs Capcom 2, now available on Xbox Live Arcade. Dig Dug, Pac-Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, all games that people owned and have purchased again.

Halo 2 without the glitches?

No thanks. Wouldn't mind better graphics, but the glitches are what keep me playing it. :)

  • 06.19.2010 7:47 AM PDT

Meow?

I'd buy it, even at that price.

Who wouldnt buy it? But I would prefer if they were to keep it the way it was with the graphics, glitches etc. Because thats what made Halo 2 so awsome and fast paced it wasnt just the really good kids that liked it, everyone liked it, and it was so easy to catch on and rank in that game actualy ment something for some time, and you could still have fun losing.

I would buy it.I kinda miss H2.it was fun and clearly the most popular game for the xbox 360....at least Halo 3 was the most selling game for the xbox 360 ^_^

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

Meh, depends.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

It might come, but its up to Microsoft. They own halo now.
Also, there is a PC version. And it supports 360 controller, so you can play it like on xbox.

It depends on what I'm getting for my buck. If it's just a straight port/emulated version, then Microsoft admits that turning old XBox LIVE off was a scam to get us to pay for access... again. If, however, we get a streamlined multiplayer version on the Arcade/Games on Demand, with updated graphics running natively, not emulated; so we have the possibility to remove the 100 friend cap and add new features to the game, like saved films that was originally planned, then I'd buy it.
