Someone posted an idea on a similar thread a month or two ago about a level that was on the inside of a sphere, like a Dyson sphere (but obviously not 1 AU in radius), i.e. you can see everything around and above you, all the way to the other side of the sphere. Essentially, you could snipe someone by looking straight up.
I have a variation on this idea.
Instead of a level on the INSIDE of a sphere, how about a level on the OUTSIDE of a sphere. Think Jedi Starfighter meteor level on Xbox. One base would be on one side, one base would be on the other (or multiple bases). Therefore, you would have any number of paths to the opponents' base (think about leaving the North pole--no matter which direction you start walking, you're heading directly toward the South pole).
This type of level would create several interesting conditions:
First, long range combat would be very difficult. Sniping from the ground would be almost useless. Close range combat (shotgun) would rule the day, and surprise kills with a fast-moving warthog could happen quite a lot. Grenades, thanks to their arcing trajectory, could in theory be thrown several times farther than normal, although aiming would be difficult.
Wow, that would be crazy, either inside or out. But outside would be better.
Here's another one. There are four separate platforms that make the shape of a sqaure, and are close enough to jump to. The platforms are suspended by big pillars that go way down, so if you fall off of a platform, your dead. It would make strategy more interesting, There wouldn't be much sneaking around. On each of the platforms, there are two-storied structures that provide cover and a hiding place. Each platform has a different sized and shaped structure, one would have more places to hide but it was smaller, stuff like that. It would make each of the platforms even for a team game, Team Slayer for example.
