Just like what the title says. A link to the right of the post date with a link saying "Report This Post". Basically what it does is when you click a link, you'll be taken to a page with a text-box to fill out a reason why this post should be reported. A good example is the Invision Power Board Report post feature. After the reason and post have been submitted, it'll be sent to all of the admins or mods of the forum via-email. I think this would be a great feature if it was added to these boards. It would virtually take care of taking the time to send a PM to a single mod about a post or topic. Thus, the post that was reported would get faster attention and will be taken care of faster.

I know IdealBB, the discussion board from Ideal Science has this feature already built in. So why not add it or enable it on these boards?

It's a good idea in theory, but there are some really immature people out there who would love to abuse this feature- and ruin it for the rest of us. Some people (Idiots, flamers, spammers ect.) would report as many posts as possible to try to play hell with the mods.

Those people would be banned. Not too difficult to deal with that.

But Shishka, the sheer amount of reports in a post-Halo 2 world would be overwhelming, wouldn't it?

Not like the amount that the mods get over at the Atari Community forum. The reports here would just be a small fraction of what its like over there. Its no joke.

I'm surer than sure, Banshee :)

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Are you referring to the Mods of the Now, or the Future? The Mods of the Now, I know, are damn well capable of controlling the Forums (good job, and thank you, Mods)... but with all the people that are going to sign up after the next new hotness and Halo 2, I doubt you guys could handle it all (no offense). You'll get backup, most definitely.

2 of those Backup mods of the Future will be Barron and Rip. If they never get chosen to be mods, I won't know what to do anymore...

We won't need backup when we get our new toys. Then spammers will be stopped before they can cause too much of a problem.

I think there should only be new mods when the current ones retire, which in theory is a long time. I like all of them, they do theres jobs better then I expected, and there hasn't bee on situation that has been handled the wrong way(that I have seen atleast).

  • 08.04.2004 6:18 PM PDT

While the moderator tools may improve there is one thing that can not, and that's the ability for the mods to be on all of the time. I've seen instances where there were no mods on and a problem occurred without anything being done about it. When Halo 2 arrives I fear this problem will grow tenfold.

I'm sure I probably look like a pompous ass for pointing that out under these circumstances (me being mentioned in this topic), but I thought it needed to get out.

And I'll shut up now.

I think the mods have been doing an excellent job and backup will not be needed.

bah

Actually Barron, that was my primary concern when Bungie announced the new mods, only 7? There had already been long 4 hour gaps of no moderation on the forums, and I figured there would still be huge gaps allowing damage to be done, but I was dead wrong. I haven't seen a post that is truly bad last more than 20 minutes here since the new mods came. And with their new tools, I believe they will be able to handle anything by the time Halo 2 comes out.

  • 08.04.2004 9:21 PM PDT

I think if I was a mod this place would be really really scary.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

But everyone who is banned just comes back. They have like 8 different logins each. That'd be very annoying I would assume.

The blacklist will be more effective than it currently is.

Yea but a jerk could send in tons of spam reports in a very small amount of time. The system would have to auto-magically delete or limit spam somehow for it to be a worthwhile tool.

I mean I could spam a report db with 100 entries within 5 minutes or so.

Not to ruin anyone's day or anything, but I highly doubt we will be getting any new moderators anytime soon.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

If the trolls and spammers actually thought before they typed, they could do mega "damage." This damage wouldn't really damage anything, but there would be pages and pages of spam...

Some of us know how to do bad things like this... Eh, Barron? ;-)

But I'm a "nice guy," so I'll never do such an atrocity... but I'm just stating that it could be done at any time... And if it were consistant, the Mods would have some trouble on their hands, hmmmm?

I still think Banshee Barron and Rip need to be Mods... that would make the Mod Count 9... Good number to have.
