So I was playing through Halo 2 again on Legendary, and I got to the part where the Prophets make the Arbiter...well...the Arbiter. I noticed that as they were talking about past Arbiters and how they died, they mentioned that one died in "the grunt rebellion". Then I wondered how any Elite or Spartan could die from any amount of grunts? The only thing dangerous that grunts have is plasma grenades (with the occasional fuel rod cannon), so how could they have been even remotely threatening against an army of Brutes and Elites?

P.S. I haven't read any of the books, so if something in them contradicts something I am saying, deal with it.

They are deadly in the books. They swarm you by the thousands.

This.

Also, if I interpreted the end of Fall of Reach correctly, it only took one or two plasma pistol shots to take down shields, and one or two more to kill a Spartan in MJOLNIR armor. Might have been overcharged shots.

Either way, fighting thousands of grunts would be nearly impossible to survive, you'd likely run out of ammo before anything else.

Those Spec-ops and Ultra Grunts would be tough, with their Fuel rods, plasma grenades, plasma charges, camo and their swarming technique, last but not least Kamikaze Grunts.
