You can also add the FX5700LE 256MB AGP8 (XP Pro SP2 MCE 2005, everything updated) to the list, downloading the v 1.04 patch did not fix the problem. The replacement strings.dll did solve the issues I had with the startup splash screens. I also downloaded binkw32 just in case. Now Halo works fine.

I did all that, and I can play Halo now, but when I tried to play online, it won't find any games. I never had this problem on my old computer. Is this a case where upgrading technology sucks?

Halo2Gansta dawg, You are a true retard...You probably think the Xbox has more power than a PC...If really think a PC is that hard to build...Go to a local PC building store and have them build one for you...

Actually theoredically for pure gaming power the xbox rival's todays top PCs, a normal pc is decreased alot by the os and with windoze thats one huge os, and second the game your playing is the only thing running, so the xbox doesn't get boged down by timeshares and such, as far as raw gaiming power the xbox is a beast and rivals any computer i've seen[and i've seen some real nice alienware ones]

Congrats, you know nothing about computers, xbox, and technology. The xbox is 4 years old, and was top of the line then. My computers runs halo at 1600x1200 (4 times the resolution as xbox) with everything on and does above 60fps. Beat that on an xbox (wait i forgot, you cant even get above 30fps).

And by the way alienware is terrible. It's the biggest ripoff. Anyone who buys that has a lot of money to burn. The prices are 200% more than what you could build a pc on your own for. Windows....man you have no clue do you?

Xbox rivalling any computer you've seen...you haven't seen many computers. Hell my old computer ran it better than xbox did. Computers have games with graphics MUCH better than those on consoles (Xbox)...hmm I wonder why...

Subject: WinXP SP2 / HaloPC / 256MB video card problem fixed, sound problem ...

I had the initializing D3D error for my 256mb video card and downloaded the hotifx which solved that problem, but now sounds are all screwed up. For example, after starting a new game and the guy tells me to follow him and then he gets blown up, right after that, if I look at one of those red alarms (which generate sound) the sound slows way down with crackling and skipping and sometimes even stops from time to time. But if I look away from it, sound plays perfectly fine. The game ran perfectly fine before SP2 and I don't really feel like uninstalling it. Imagine that, Microsoft screwing up one of their own products. My specs are below. I believe the problem is within the binkw32.dll file, since it seems to handle the playing of the video and sound files used by Halo. I'm using the newest drivers avail. for all my hardware. If anybody else has this problem or has a fix for it, please reply! Thank you.

Is there a Halo Custom Edition error thing (Wow I really know my terminology) for an ATI x700 cuz I can't get it to work ever since I got that card.

Heyyo,

For the crackling sound prob? try first to turn on or off your hardware acceleration, sometimes it works better on, sometimes off, for me it's off. If that doesn't help? try upgrading your soundcard drivers.

And yes, M$ screwed up on their own product cause they want the average non-inteligent consumer to believe the $box is the greatest gaming system, and they should be praising M$ for creating it. period. It seems gangsta's more than just 1 of the usual stereotypes. :p

As for your prob panda? try my suggestion of upgrading videocard drivers.

Heyyo,

Hmm, weird, panda, do you have sp2 installed? you could aways try uninstalling it, it's really dodgy, and it does more damage than it fixes.

Tried disabling hardware acceleration for sound, tried turning off eax, tried 98 compatability mode, tried everything involving my sound, even a fresh format. Nothing still. The problem is not my hardware or anything like I said before, the problem is this new binkw32.dll file I downloaded. I guess I can't complain though, at least I can play Halo now. And as for the new CATALYST, it can't fix your problem because it doesn't address Halo at all (unless you're running it on a TV or dual monitors). Maybe the next binkw32.dll will fix me problem... guess I'll just have to wait to find out.

Yeah but my sister will skin me if I get a virus on this comp so I'm scared of taking off sp2.

Heyyo,

Just have a good antivirus program, and keep it up to date. I've had a few run ins with viruses, but my norton antivirus picked it up right away and deleted any infected downloads. ;)
