Well I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who's a 'tad' sorry for that forum then.

PS, look at this crap as another example of people's stupidity. The 'Bungie' weekly update has this week been presented by Bungie Princess (Alta), and some -blam!- idiots started flaming, crying for there "Halo2 fix".

Ar**holes.

It's funny, I go by Jay irl =P
Anyway, I'm surprised Bungie still does those weekly updates still... I keep seeing more and more trash posted after each because people dislike what Bungie states. I mean, bungie doesn't have to have started it in the first place right, we all should be happy that they give us pieces, let alone anything... =/

Yeah, It's pretty immature over there. Guess I'll be spending more time around here and some other fan sites that are a little more civil. Seeing as I'm 24, I have better things to do than bicker in a childish manner. Although I do appreciate intelligent and occasionally appropriate sarcasm, New Mombasa is WAY out of hand.

I too agree that New mombasa is out of hand. I have said a few things here and there in the forum, to my dismay its knocked down by one of the little ones. I, being 22 years old, feel that we have a community of gamers that could get a long greatly. Yet little kids who surf arround and have no respect are constantly ruining it for the majority of us. I believe that more mods or something to that affect would be great. (Most likely wont happen). But if we as a community could get together and help the mods... it would be a better place.

I'm 15 yet I still feel a hell of a lot older/mature/intelligent than most people on these forums. I was just in the flood and there was a topic laughing at the US for losing to Puerto Rico in Basket ball and it turned into a my country is better than yours thread. The questions many people ask are completely dumb and many people have nothing better to do with their lives than spam. Also everyone has to complain about the lack of updates. Bungie doesn't have to give us ANYTHING. They could just let us rot but they don't. There are plenty of cool people here, even some younger cool people. Not all 12, 13, 14 year olds are immature. But there are some.

I'm 24. But it's good to see that some of these other, younger posters, are showing some true Bungie support. It's cool you actually posted something in the Septagon. Not a lot of people do. I was starting to stereotype all you youngins as slack jawed yokels. Thanks for correcting me.

And I also don't feel like an old geezer anymore.

Haha, I've been posting in the septagon for a while. I've been a member of Chapter Founders for a long time. I've seen a lot of the septagon. When I joined the 7th C I was 13 so I was one of them damn kids. Being one of the few who has been consistently active at the column for coming up on 2 years, I feel like an old geezer. I have never been away from Bungie.Net and the 7th Column for more than a week and a half at any one point. (Only reason I was gone that long was a vacation and no internet access) I didn't become inactive and suddenly remember the site, I've always come here. I've seen members come and leave, and I've watched the IQ of the forums/column decrease. I've seen people join and leave and I've still been here.

Most of the forum members I have played on XBL are 14. It sucks for them that certain people their age give them the stereotype. Damn kids and their MTV, baggy jeans down around their waists and their rap music.

I'm 25 - but none of the behavior has anything to do with age -- There are plenty of 13, 14 and 15 year olds on here that are just as polite as the adults are to each other -- It's plain out ass-holism (My new favorite word) and bad parenting to blame -- They never learned respect or decency...

I'm certifiable.

True. There are plenty of 'tweeners and teens that are decent folks. However, they're not the ones whose parents plunked them in front of a game console or computer screen while the parents went off to work so that the parents could both afford to work.

(That last bit is not a typo. Think on it for a bit, and I hope you'll see where it comes from.)

The ones we see stinking up New Mombasa are the ones who haven't been socialised for an online environment, so they have no manners or decorum or empathy for others here. It's like dropping feral kids in a shopping mall... of course they're going to crap in the stairwells, steal food, and harass the patrons; they don't know any better. They've never been taught.

However, they're the ones with the time to remain extended periods in the forums and they're the ones who can generate the most volume of posts in that time; think on it, how much time does it take to crank out a one-or-two line post if you don't bother with spelling, punctuation, or reflection?

We're stuck with 'em. Lousy parenting may not be our fault, but we're the ones who have to deal with the result. So we're going to have to raise the Little Darlings for them, at least in an online context; for our own protection, if for no other reason. However the kiddies aren't too receptive to authority, and why should they be? They've learned that there are no consequences to disobedience, since their lousy parents are too busy in their own lives to bother to enforce any sort of rules. So their response to any direction is, "Make me."

It's too damned much work to bully an entire forum into obedience through terror. Besides I'm not sure we can make it stick. Suggestions just fly right past 'em. They don't even seem to recognise good examples, so leading by example doesn't work either. And that leaves me fresh out of ideas.

So how do we house-break the feral kids?

We cant. Its as simple as that. There is nothing that I can think of, at least, that will make these unruly children behave. Threats are next to useless. As you have said Anton, to them there is no consequence for their bad behaviour.
The only thing I can think of is harsher rules, so that if you are seen as a repeat flamer/spammer/general idiot you will be banned.
After a few of the little kiddies start to get banned, I would hope and imagine that the others will start behaving themselves properly.
I think also that some sort of 'Shame list' should be made or somesuch, on each forum. On this list the moderators would post names of users that have been misbehaving etc.

Yeah, I'm 24 and I feel better too.

Things will improve as soon as school is back in.

Beat them with canes. "Submit and ye shall be spared, oh spamming ones."

Unrealistically, make all of us here mods. Then we go in full force in one day and rip out all the bad weeds. Okay, that'll never happen.

All we can do is wait for them to get back to school or hope they get tired. It really sucks because this is the only Bungie.net forum I'll post in. I can't talk about Halo 2 here though. If I put something over there I get the usual.

I could never be a mod -- temptation to go buck-squizzy and lock down all of New Mombasa would be too great... No new topics without moderator approval, etc...

Right, but it's only going to last until the weekend, during which they all come back in force. And some don't do their homework, so expect them to hang around during the evening.

The kids thrive on attention, and by being annoying, they certainly will get noticed more than if they were polite and well-mannered. That draws attention from other members, who flame them and subsequently give the kids the attention they strive for. I think the harsher measures would be a good idea, and I would definitely like to see a shame list. I would encourage more of "don't feed the trolls,'' but the majority of New Mombasa is full of ignorant morons who always seem to want to have the last word, which in turn fuels the flames. I'll leave it up to the mods and the people at Bungie to work something out, they seem to know what's best.

One more thing, I'm 15 as well. Just going along with the whole "age" thingy we got going.

Edit: Anyone who adds dumbass to the end of their post is just asking for trouble. I've noticed that somewhat lately.

Far from it.

There are plenty of 'tweeners and teens that are decent folks.

It's not that we're opposed to younger players. We are opposed to bad conduct, which is shown by a few bad apples... and unfortunately most of those bad apples seem to be in the age-range we were discussing.

Kicking all the younger members off the boards is just a slow form of board-suicide. (After all, they're where we eventually get the veteran members from!) But allowing the few malicious tykes to make the boards nearly unendurable is just a different form of board-suicide.

I don't think it's a really good idea to place this kind of attention on the "younger kids." It has the potential to have the same effect as calling them "noobs" or some other form of discrimination. There are plenty of people of all ages who do not have any form of forum etiquette. So, while the former idea may be true a good amount of the time, I don't think it deserves all or even a majority of the credit.

This thread should still be back on page whatever. I created this thread way before all this NMST nonsense took place etc, and I thought it had been laid to rest peacefully. Seems not.

And Ssonic whatever, I wasn't having a go at younger members at all. Read my posts again please, and try to understand them better.

Now please, let this thread die. People have expressed their views and there's nothing more to say on the matter.
