In fall of reach, the spartans have been stated to use shield generators from dead elites.

Obviously, marines should be able to also.

If it is oversized for them then they could at least have custom made human shields. Mark 1s.

Maybe then the marines wouldn't suck anymore. They are just like movie starship troopers.

Think of this... Theres how many marines? and on Earth we have limited resources. Imagine the resources 500 years in the future, the cost, and the amount of people.

I've found that if marines use something other than an AR they usually get a 5:1 kill ratio on Heroic.

Plus there is the fact that they can't use some weapons with one hand.

Didn't Master Chief get his shield technology from the Jackals in The Fall of Reach?

To Kill or not to Kill that is the Question

Don't be stupid the shielding technology is a prototyp idea they are still debuging the systerm. Also it takes a lot of money for one shielded suit of armore it would cost the UNSC utter billions to create a light weight shielded suit of armore.

Ok let me clear some things up, first off- the jackal's shields are very different from the Elite's, and the SPARTAN armor is more advanced than the Elite's, although they don't specify how, maybe how they can focus the power to shield certain areas.

Well, outfiting every marine with portable energy shielding, a still prototype technology, would be outrageously expensive. But they do have armor, and the ODSTs seem to have armor that's vastly improved from the standard issue that the marines have.

Without armour like the MC, maybe the shields would fry the marines.

  • 05.01.2004 9:46 PM PDT

bah

I'll tell you the one thing nobody else seemed to remember, the marines do, in fact, have a diffractive shield that pretects them from plasma only. Ever have a marine get fried with an overcharge blast while in your vehicle, and you see his health flash red? That's his defractive shielding going down. It's not an energy shield, but a physical armor that shields them from big plasma attacks.

Of course, I don't see why they couldn't pick up a Jackal's shields and use it like a riot squad. The MC kills so many jackals, at least some marines ought to get a hold of 'em.

It costs billions of ::dollars, marks, francs,:: United Nations monetary units to create one Mjolnir Mark V armor suit. They do it for the Spartans because they're the best, and they can use the armor (strenght enhancments, nero-pysycological augmentations), and there are few of them. To supply them to every Marine and NavSpecWar operative in the UNSC would cost quadrillions upon quadrillions, and take decades. Money is not a problem when the government controls everything, but time is when the enemy is at your doorstep.

I believ it was sadi the odst's will have a version of the Mjinor(sp) armor so i gues those would ahve the shields right? The problem thoguh with other allies having shields is that it may give u to much of an advantage against the enemy

.

to clairefy i believe the energy shields spartans use are actualy human made.... they just use the technology from the covenant shielding they stole to improve it

and also in the books hasnt it been a few years after the spartans gor the shields so you'd think the prototype stage of the technology would be done

actually I'm not sure that's entirely true pred. Nowhere in the books does it mention ODSTs with shields or using a MJOLNIR armor variant. The two armors look fairly similar because of the ODST's headgear, but, ultimately they just have armor plates. I do remember a lot of people saying that the ODSTs in the E3 demo were some kind of "new spartans" after the video came out. Of course, this isn't true, but that's probably what you were thinking of.

I see what your saying that is probably true but if any of the amrines were going to have shields it would be them ebcause there suits look like they could atleast have the possiblity. But now that i think of it if you look at the render they have more of a kevlar jacket thing than an actual suit of armor

Actually the ODSTs were used to test the prototype for the Mark V armour
most of the test subjects died from cardiac arrest. or were ripped apart from the
strength of the armour on there unaugmentated bodys.

Yeah, the prototype Mark V armor has little to do with shielding. The powersuits the Spartans used weren't augmented with full-body shielding until just before the attack on Reach. Now, the testing your talking about was quite a bit before they received this upgrade (remember in TFoR, they didn't have shielding during their early engagements). ODSTs were sophisticated armor, but it would be impractical to give expensive and mostly experimental full body shielding to the large number of ODSTs out there. Also, the shielding the MC has requires a very powerful generator to keep the shields powered and to recharge them. While it would be possible, it wouldn't be likely that ODSTs would carry a very heavy and expensive mini-nuclear reactor on their back to power their shielding.

This might help:
The Spartans obtained their suits when they were 12-13ish (remember the fight in the ring with the ODSTs and shortly thereafter?), and when we get to the Fall of Reach Master Cheif was 25 years old. So, the technology they 'created' is 13 years old by that time.

Incorrect, they had been using it on their various missions BEFORE Reach fell.
