I don't understand I though we had no rights and had to play nice. So we can use signatures?

No one in this thread seems to have a problem with them.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

People in this forum are making the standard mistake of assuming that more rules and enforcement are the magic bullet here.

Putting a single word at the end of your forum post is generally not detrimental to the forum thread. If it is, it becomes spam. In this case, 99% of the time, it is harmless. Sure, its stupid, but harmless. If you think it isn't, report it.

Fun fact: the rules are only as expansive as they are because you don't have the tools to filter out your own view of things you don't want to see. At some point you may get said tools, and at that point the rules will drastically simplify, as will the amount of crap the moderators need to care about. With that in mind, know that we try very hard to not add more rules if we can help it. This thing is no where near needing its own rule. If it becomes distracting, people will get in trouble, but for the most part, it can be ignored.

Really, it will all be okay.

Wait, what? That dosen't make any sense.

Like "spam", "blogging" and derailing topics are against the rules. How would you filter that out. So is flaming and "being a jerk".

If you tell me you have found a tool that removes "jerks" from a website, you are going to be a -blam!- billionaire.

It means that if you could ignore users that spam, sort/filter good threads from bad (without affecting others' view) - it wouldn't matter if someone wanted to rank troll - you'd just ignore them or filter their thread and never see it.

The moderators should only have to deal with the really bad stuff (shock sites, phishing, garbage like that). They shouldn't have to worry about your feelings - you should be able to take care of yourself. But right now, we have to draw arbitrary lines around what is trolling and spam and such because individual users can't deal with stuff because we don't give them the tools to do that. It is a limitation of a forum system designed for pre-Halo 2 numbers, not the gigantic size of today.

Alas, nothing will be changing anytime soon. Shipping a game takes up a lot of time. :)

That sounds awesome! What kind of tools would allow a user to do that, anyway? How would they tell what is "trolling" or "spam"?

Burrito's thread was locked yesterday because of a little line saying 'Oh, and by the way, this is the 777,777th thread in the Halo 3 forum', despite the main point of the thread being something absolutely irrelevant, and 100% on-topic for the Halo 3 forum. So according to how that thread was handled, one line is enough to justify an entire reply. Thus signatures can technically be considered spam.

If that's why it was locked. Mind you it was locked before I could even refresh the page so no moderator would have seen that, and the moderator I PMed still has to get back to me on a reason for the lock so we don't actually know.
But if that is the reason? Then yes. I think you're right.
