Fada beo Halo 2!

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Do we have any proof or hope that SLASO can actually be conquered? Like has any serious, hardcore H2 gamer even come close?

For new guys here, SLASO means 'Single (player) Legendary All Skulls On'. It means you activate all the skulls in any order and once activated, start from Cairo and beat the game. I will add that all players should try SLASO at least once, just to know what it feels like to be instantly annihilated.

Before anyone pops off with 'oh yeah, I did that once, wasn't that hard' let me say that the guy who beat H3 Mythic (version of SLASO) could not finish H2 SLASO nor could anyone else in his community of awesome players. Nobody has ever proved (document) beating H2 SLASO.

My opinion is that nobody will ever do it, and it may be as close to impossible as it gets. The negative skulls are overwhelming, even the fun skulls are a nightmare and each of the negative skulls lend to each other and are therefore more overwhelming as a group. A negative skull is one that makes it more difficult to survive.

Why it might never be done:

1. Blind; you will not have a reticule nor see how many nades you have and well, no HUD whatsoever.
2. Sputnik; may sound innocent but nades will come at you from all directions because of Catch and there will be no cover. Imagine the Cairo hanger.
3. Black Eye; purely evil. With the Mythic skull on and in Legendary you must melee for survival because your Shields will not regenerate without it.
4. Assassins; all AI are cloaked (nuff said).
5. Mythic; even Grunts are tough to kill. The n00b combo is virtually useless in the Cairo hanger, not enough ammo can be hauled in.
5. Armory skull; AI always look in your direction so even cloaking will not help you.
6. Catch; Grunts and Brutes toss nades at you like rain and never stop.
7. Angry; all AI shoot at a faster pace.
8. Famine; you have less ammo in every weapon.
9. Ghost; if you do manage to get up to an Elite for a melee, when you whack 'em they will not get spun around, they will keep facing you and they all have swords.
10. Thunderstorm; not a terrible skull because Elites cannot shoot longer range because they're holding a sword but forget ever meleeing a Legendary, Mythic Elite who always knows where you are.

No, I don't think it will ever be done.

Imagine you are in the Cairo hanger. You enter and face a constant barrage of nades (Catch) and all box covers are blown away (Sputnik), you've got less ammo (Famine), enemies are firing at a faster pace (Angry), they're all perma-cloaked (Assassins), they always know where you are (Armory) and now you need to go down and melee for your health (Black Eye) and they are all beyond Legendary (Mythic).

For myself, in 6 months of trying (once upon a time) I managed to beat Outskirts and QZ but only by running, going off-level and I never fired a shot and it took gobs of deaths. Pitiful

So I wanna know if anyone can beat the game just with Mythic and Thunderstorm both on. Those two alone make it very very very hard, at least for me. Certain checkpoints I just give up, like the Cairo hangar and the heretic leader (who seems to keep accumulating holograms!?!?!).

And yeah, I've never posted before so if people have already discussed this, sorry, but tell me where...

I play with Mythic on a lot, along with Thunderstorm and other skulls but I have never tried to beat the entire game with any skull combination.

Anyone know if there really is a halo 2 vista exclusive skull? It is mentioned on the Halo 2 skulls wiki type site. Oh and can you guys help to update the page? It reads terribly and has other information on it that I think is false

Yup and try those on Easy with Mythic on. That way the AI last longer so it prolongs the fun.

For me, the best place to do this is the last fight on Gravemind where Cortana says you might want to sit this one out. I use perma-cammo and the above mentioned skulls and I just go in and watch the fireworks.

Sounds neat but still a bit silly... lol. I did them in H3 but I found them to be ok for a while but eventually they lost their luster (I think it might be a similar thing for H2 at least from my prespective).

Actually, for me the skulls are the main reason to play H2. I am a dedicated CE man, for what the campaign allows you to do. I do not like the H2 campaign nearly as much, except when played with the skulls. I laugh alot during CE at what can happen when you experiment with different weapons combos and approaches. H2 is not funny at all, until you have certain skull combos, that is what allows you to experiment and create some cool stuff, otherwise the gameplay sux compared to CE.

  • 12.14.2010 4:07 PM PDT

Out of curiosity, what does CE allow you to do that you cannot do in H2?

Howdy Grumpy!

In my mind, there are some serious limitations regarding H2 that limit how much experimenting you can do with your weapons selection and how you play the game, especially playing legendary campaign.

Most notably:

1-In CE, other than when you need a banshee to go vertical, you can walk the entire game, never using a vehicle once or taking advantage of a chain gunner (or Gauss in H2). You cannot avoid using vehicles in H2 to nearly the same extent. If you choose to, you are not going to get far at all. I actually like to walk the game, it lets me scope out the scenery for things I have not seen before (I have found a few things this way in CE that had not been noted before to my knowledge). It also allows me to kill most everything, taking that pleasure away from my Marines!

2-Weapons combos are much more variable in CE for me. If I want to take out a Wraith with a PP in CE, it can be done (actually, any vehicle can be taken out with the PP). Try that in H2, not going to happen. There are times that you have no choice but to use certain combos, Cairo Station-good luck not using the PP/BR combo, darn near impossible to get through; in CE you can go the whole game without using the SR or RL, not a wise move in H2. I just like the flexibility to not use a weapon if I want to make it harder on myself.

3-Overall, I just find that I can vary the gameplay experience of CE much more and it feels different more often than it feels the same. Playing H2 almost always feels the same, with the exception of skull combos, and that only changes it so much. After a few days of H2 in the tray it just seems lacking in as much variety.

I play 80% CE and 20% H2, campaigns only. Got CE back in 2003 and H2 as soon as it came out, god the countless hours spent killing and dying!

I forgot one thing in particular:

I can play from PoA to AotCR melee and grenades only in CE, I would not even think about attempting any single level all the way through that way in H2!

  • 12.15.2010 11:01 AM PDT

Very interesting, womyfts, every point had validity except maybe the vehicle thing. I assumed Legendary for all your comments.

My grandson and I play coop now and again and Arbiter is the only level I can remember where using a vehicle is mandatory. We like to walk the rest.

A funny thing happened the other day. We were playing Regret and getting out of both elevator rides to explore the water and we discovered something we didn't know about that first one. If you look down the shaft just before the 3 Jackals come up, and toss a nade down just when they hit an lz, the nade goes through the elevator cabin and kills the Jackals. Useless but interesting.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

If Tyrant couldn't do SLASO, then nobody can. And we need an official name for the Armory skull.

Who's Tyrant?

I always thought Cowbell worked. Seems like Bungie named each skull after the effect, like Sputnik and so on. When activated, the Armory skull allowed all enemies to look in your direction no matter what. So if you have Envy on you will be cloaked but the enemies will face you at all times. They don't really see you but it adds to the devastation of SLASO because even if you run around a building and get up on the roof they will be looking straight at you when you try to peek.

Are you aware that Regret takes at more than 100 boards with four melees each to beat? I tried with perma cammo but died anyway when I landed in front of an elite and he meleed me to death.

You mean in Legendary? Only once did it take me that long and I never did kill him on that run. I like to use double needlers on him and he flies out of his chair. Then use the rocket launcher while he's sitting on the floor moaning.

Ha, I know for a fact I've got no hope of beating SLASO. I can hardly get the skulls without any others on. Last year my friend and I spent hours just trying to get Thunderstorm. Although my playing skills have gone up a lot since last year, I still have trouble on Legendary. Despite any trouble to be had, H2 is still my favorite, especially because it is the most rewarding to beat on high difficulties.

Your reward is being defeated hundread upon hundread of times lol. Legendary is a challenge and not exactly "fun" most of the time when one plays it.
