I finally finished my Halo 2 Cairo Station most skulls on extensive walkthrough.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
I cover the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd areas and I show a little of the 4th area.
I am extremely happy that Fraps recorded in 3 minute intervals. I separated the video into parts instead of one video. And the best part is, it's only about 1 hour and 30 minutes long! I included all my failures and I only cut off several seconds at the start since in order to record the desktop while playing Halo 2, I have to record the desktop first.
The reason why it's so small is because I set it to half-size, so I don't run out of disk space. I already got a bunch of Halo: Reach videos taking up a lot of GB. The Fraps videos, although 3 minutes each, took up 105 GB total.
So onto the technical stuff (a.k.a goodies).
The easiest way to kill Covies is when they stand still. To do that, make it so that you can only see an arm or leg and shoot at it with plasma rifles (I took down an Ultra Elite this way). They usually won't move so they're easy targets.
Hell, plasma rifles are your best friend. The bolts are easy to see and the rifles seem to have a lot of ammo even with Famine on. Because of GBP, they can score headshots. The BR should be your secondary weapon (unless you don't have the headshot problem). I stayed away from the plasma pistol due to it's nerfs. But how they will play in the last battle on this level I still haven't found out.
Johnson seems to be the only way to survive the hangar, but don't push him down. I mentioned several times that sword Ultra Elites can melee Johnson into the wall. Well, it seems that it happened again. I died shortly after.
I broke down at the end and had to resort to cheats to see what happened to Johnson. And when I found out, I went out (or tried to) plasma grenades blazing (4 to be exact) since I knew I was dead meat.
As I detonated the grenades, I thought, "sweet Jesus, I'm going home and I'm taking you Covies with me mother-blam!-s" only to find out that I was still invincible... and that they were still unharmed. I could hear the Covie bastards laughing. But worst of all, that Grunt in front of me. I knew that plasma grenade was unavoidable. I could sense that this was one of those grunty Halo: Reach veterans.
You can only imagine the horror as I moved that mouse to disable invincibility... that's right, I had to, I had no choice. Johnson was gone and I had to show face. Reverting would mean endless attempts. I would be insane. So Ia ccepted my fate and unfroze time.
And I got shot down. And with a great blue explosion, it was all over in seconds. The last thing I heard was this:
"Ding-dong, the Demon's dead!"
---
So this is what I learned.
1. Mythic (no deaths, no save and quit) Cairo Station is impossible. The level is too long and there's no room for error.
2. But LASO + Blind skull, that's possible. I have already saved and quit at the last checkpoint. And I didn't use cheats before I saved. So I could attempt it segmented.
3. I should have used infinite grenades so I could have taken out every single Covie in that hangar in a more epic death. In fact, I think that's what I'll do next.
