Couldn't you just watch part 1? :/ The skull menu can be seen at 1:06 and there's a sticky note right next to the Halo 2 game window that identifies what the skulls are.

But ok, the ones I didn't have on were:

IWHBYD
Iron
unnamed/Whuppopotamus skull

Lol, I'll watch 'em all tonight when I'm not busy.

Does anyone know if someone has uploaded their attempts of SLASO? I tried it today and couldn't get past the first wave of enemies (I actually tried to kill them, not to run past them).

I have uploaded my attempts, but they're incomplete; I have never completed any level on Mythic. However, I have come up with strategies. You can see them here.

By first wave, do you mean Cairo Station?

Well, at least you know how it feels to play H2 SLASO so welcome to the slaughterhouse club. Nobody has even come close to beating H2 SLASO.

Nobody has ever filmed completing one level so you might think about that. You should try Outskirts or Metropolis before Cairo. Cairo should be close to last for segmented runs.

Yes, the first elites in Cairo Station owned me.
It's a very simple strategy.

See here.

Basically, you get to above the door, but instead of dropping down (you could cloak and drop down past this wave, but because of armory skull, this is risky), shoot at the Elites with your SMG then headshot with the BR. If one of them has his sword out and is focused on Johnson, leave him be; you can assassinate him later. Kill all but 1 Grunt (unless there's an Elite with a sword. IIRC, it doesn't matter which enemy you leave alive) then drop down to stop the next waves from spawning. Then assassinate the Grunt (or Elite).

Edit:

I forgot to mention, whatever you do, don't leave Johnson with a sword Elite for a long time. He'll eventually get pushed through the wall (IIRC) and he may or may not come back in your dreams demanding why you let him be erased into nonexistence...

@ SG - Awesome little tut and it got me thinking to maybe have a separate tut section in my tut thread devoted to strategies for SLASO. I can record at least the beginning of every level that you haven't done. So if anyone wants to get all the skulls and film a sequence here and there and put it in the H2 tut thread it would be cool. Even failures, well especially failures, should be filmed. The goal would be for individuals to complete segmented levels for SLASO and discuss strategies for completion.

Oops, I forgot which website I was on, lol, senior moment. SG - I'll post my ideas at jumpers.

I'm watching his videos right now.

And BTW, I was activating all my skulls so I could try again and noticed I don't have a profile for "The Armory" skull. Then, I tried to make one, but a message popped up:

"Couldn't read the disk. It may be dirty or damaged."

Well that's just great. Now I can't try it with all skulls on. I think I'll buy a new copy when I can.

I'll take a look at it by the end of today. I'm too busy dealing with uncooperative Halo 3 marines. I have to destroy every vehicle I come across all because the marines will commandeer them.

I'd hate to say it... but I never got past the first hangar. 0_0

I used the dev trainer to get past it. The battles leading up to the second hangar were easy though. Same with most of the battles after the second hangar.

At the moment, my strategy is to use Johnson since I'm not one to place trust in dual wielded plasma pistols. Dual wielded plasma rifles on the other hand, I might stockpile on those.

If you stick out enough out of cover so you can see the leg or arm of an Elite, spam the plasma rifle in controlled bursts. The Elite won't retaliate since he can't see you.

The Armory skull is not as bad as it sounds. If they haven't already seen you, then you can assassinate them.

I finally got my Halo 2 Vista working again and after some contemplation, I decided to seek out the skulls instead of relying on that unbearable dev trainer (headshots didn't always register).

But then I came across a problem. There's no Co-op in Vista! :( But I got the perfect solution.

How to setup skull profiles in Halo 2 Vista:

1. Do the unlock all levels trick
2. Make a new profile and complete all the levels (which will all be the cutscene only levels)
3. Go to AppData\Local\Microsoft\Halo 2\Saved Games and find your profile (should look like S0000000 if it's your first and only one)
4. Double click (or single click) on it and copy the item named 'Profile' (Type should be 'File') to your desktop
5. Return to Halo 2 and make 15 new profiles (don't bother naming them. Just press enter, go back, and make another one)
6. Overwrite the Profiles in the folders with the one on your desktop
7. Return to Halo 2, rename the profiles to the skull names, and you have 16 profiles, all levels unlocked. :)

8 (optional): Backup the Saved Games folder
Note: If you get any prompts to delete your profile(s), just ignore it.

Here's #3-7 on video

Of course, there's a more convenient way to do it:

Use 1 profile, get a checkpoint before a skull with it, copy the profile and savemeta to a new folder, get another checkpoint before a skull with it, copy the profile and savemeta to, etc.

But I haven't tested this. I didn't have enough time.

Edit:

Damn my lack of experience with video editors. Here's a better quality video. You might have to full screen to see the words more clearly.

So did I do sword flying correctly? I found this and it seems to be sword canceling.

i dont think you did it right, you need to to be in the air for at least 3 seconds or something. i did it accidentally once in outskirts, lunged at a jackal sniping on a platform, accidentally switched weapons before slicing his brain in 2 pieces then flew 30 metres in the air, landed on the zanzibar hotel!

Yeah, there's a lot of different ways to swordfly. You actually lunged after a weapon switch. The cancel part is switching back to primary weapon so you don't kill the enemy. The greatest feat of swordlunging was by scurty and he had to cancel or else he might have killed the enemy. I'm not fast enough to cancel so I don't wory about it.

So even though a weapon switch/swordlunge is a lunge it's also called swordflying.

The other type of swordflying is what I do from vehicles and the 2 major differences are you can get massive distance with a vehicle swordfly and you can aim away from the enemy and still fly.

All this really had me confused when I first started learning how to fly.

Oh, and he also had to press A during all that and that gave him the looping trajectory.

Also, you can swordfly from a vehicle and then lock-on to an enemy and swordlunge but that one is tricky because the swordfly from a vehicle has to end before you can then lunge in midair.

Are you sure it was lunging after a weapon switch? I found this video which helped me perfect it. I think I've gotten the hang of it now.

Yeah I saw that. What I would like to know is how to do long distance sword lunge. I don't know if the rocket launcher sword thing works in Vista but long distance sword lunge seems to be easier.

I see.

That's what I suspected.

You mean like in this video?

Lol, yeah, you've got it. All the weapon switch does is extend the range of the sword by transferring the weapon lock. The easiest is the RL and it works for any weapon with a longer lock-on distance than the sword. The PR and Carbine work too and are easy but the snipers are tough. I never have done a sniper flight but HB salamee was good.

I call it lunging anytime I use a sword to swipe and fly to an enemy, whether it's a weapon switch or not. We all have our own way of looking at it. It's all swordflying but calling those lunges helps to differentiate between the different kinds of flying for me.

Yay! I just tried the super sword cancel thing on Uprising. On Easy. It's amazing!

But does it work in Vista? So I'm supposed to get the rocket launcher reticle red, hold down the switch weapons button (in my case key), release, wait, then lunge? :S

I can easily work with that. Anyways, I'm signing out now.
