I don't know if it works on vista or not.

Yes, hold down on switch weapons, let go to switch and hesitate slightly so it's just timing.

So I think anytime you switch weapons to lunge it's a cancel but they are all swordflying. Scurty calls his cancelling swordflying, nothing else. It's basically all the same thing.

The guys in mutiplayer that were doing swordflying tricks didn't want to kill anyone so they cancelled twice, one at the beginning for the weapon switch and one at the end. They did not always want to press A because of what they were trying to do and I can't remember but pressing A may not have worked in MP.

The big update that killed MP cancelling was called lunging by Bungie, that's where I get my idea on what I call it.

Yeah I don't think it's work. :(

Ok.

Cancelled twice?

I read here that Halo 2 Vista is based on a 1.7 version or something. Is that true?

Btw, did you see my recent post at jumprs? It all started after 1 hour of practicing sword canceling, on High Charity, when I noticed that the Flood combat forms climb up the wall if they fall down to the lower levels. I wanted to see what would happen if I did sword canceling on a climbing Flood and what I got was unexpected.

Hell yes I saw it, that was coolness. I think that's the longest lunge (after passing the enemy) I've ever seen. A lunge is only supposed to go past the enemy no further than the distance you started but you shot up like a rocket. That was cool.

Sweet!

Then what should I call it?

I also had good fun sword cancelling like crazy on the combat forms and Grunts. I also got Uprising down so I'm going to attempt it on Legendary.

Sorry for the bump but I think I found something new.

I was trying to get a sword Ultra Elite from the elevator (that goes to the Ranger Elites) to the elevator to the bomb room, just for fun. When I tried it with a Ranger, he got deloaded. So anyways, when I got him in the elevator, he stopped swiping at me. I even got the marine in the bomb room right next to him (poor sucker never noticed him until I made him touch him hehe).

Seeing the potential, I started up Cairo Station Legendary with relevant skulls.

And since I'm such a poor speedrunner/unlucky fellow, I modded to get to the bomb room (it was just being unable to die from damage. Unlike matg globals changes, this can easily be negated by switching from the modded map to the unmodded one, although this must be done after quitting the current game). To do those hangar battles like Monopoli takes some serious quick fingers, quick thinking, and a lot of mentality and focus. I have the former but lack the latter ones.

Now where's Black Eye you ask? I turned it on when I got the cp in the bomb room.

So here it is. The moment you've been waiting for. This was the closest attempt I got to killing the bomb battle Elites with 10 skulls on (skulls that weren't on were mostly irrelevant i.e. Iron, IWHBYD, Famine, GBP). This was initially great but a sneaky Elite caught me off guard (I lost my overshields) and I made a fatal mistake when I showed myself without cloaking. Hence I consider it my second best attempt. They would have been a much more easier experience if I already had 2 overshields. I can't long distance sword fly on the Elite ranger like Monopoli so I'll just have to improvise.

Unless you're a pro with the sword (which I'm not), stick an Elites with plasma grenades (1 per Elite, preferably after killing the previous Elite). One of 3 things will happen when an Elite is stuck:

-Elite doesn't take out sword but will want to melee you
-Elite doesn't take out sword but will want to melee you and still seems to fire his gun (or maybe this is the same as above)
-Elite takes out sword

But first, it is imperative that you position the crate well. That box in front of you next to the dead minor is your only reliable cover. You must move it forward but not so that it goes past the smaller crates.

Anyways, if he wants to melee and he climbs up the crate and it's too risky to go around and assassinate, you can avoid his melee by staying right next to the crate. The Elite will overstep and will be open for assassination. You can also melee him when he's trying to melee you and then assassinate him.

But if he takes out the sword, get him to charge you and then immediately run into the elevator. He'll stay at the entrance for a while before moving away and that's when you assassinate him. Easy overshield.

P.s. One thing I learned from my experiences. I hate the Halo 2 Needler.

Great work man. You've added a lot to the H2 SLASO community. I'm sure Monopoli will be inspired by this.

Should I post it on jumprs or wait?

It's up to you but I don't see why you wouldn't post it in the SLASO thread. You could make a topic if you want but it's up to you. Either way it will work and it's a fun watch, for me anyway. You don't need to say how you got to the Bomb room, just say what skulls you are using.

Alright.

Btw, I finally found the perfect formula for dealing with the Elites. I just finished the bomb room battle with 14 skulls (no Blind) after 30 minutes of trial and error. I can now make a tutorial with commentary. Should I put the details in the description, in the video, or upload two videos: 1 with only gameplay, 1 with gameplay and info?

Why not both vids, it gives a viewer the choice but if it was me I would do in-game text and not a WOT for the thread because most won't read the darned thing. Maybe one vid with very limited or no text except title and such and another vid with text. If you are up to it, below the 2 vids maybe give your text analysis for the people that will read a WOT. It's up to you though. If you want to make a topic I don't see anything wrong with that.

That's what I was thinking.

Good idea. I'm dedicated enough.

Right now I just tested something that came from my past Cairo Station testing (dev trainer days). I had high suspicions and I was right. And it was very successful, perhaps even better than the one I just mentioned.

There is a way to get Elites to come to you. Just stick the Needler dual wielder and if he pulls out the sword or just tries to melee you, use the elevator method on him. Now all the surviving (assuming you killed 1 or 2 already) non-dual wielding Elites will be swarming in on your position. One at a time in my experience.

Edit:

Or maybe it was killing enough Elites... I need to recheck

Edit 2:

My memory must have been fuzzy. It's killing enough Elites. :(

Edit 3:

Scratch that. I've found the perfect method. My previous strategies were difficult to execute but this one is very reliable.

I've discarded all my strategies (except for the elevator sword Elite exploit) in favor of this one.

Shameful bump but I thought it would fit with womy's thread about the skulls.

Besides, it was about to be frozen, like my easy off-level thread.

I had fun today with the Envy Skull on Outskirts.

Lol, Covenant were scared to death seeing their allies fall down dead.

  • 12.21.2011 11:14 PM PDT

Wow, this is embarrassing. I never knew about the co-op trick for using one profile that had played through the game to create new ones. I spent a lot of time running through the game on easy by myself. Tragic.

This is a great post by the way Grumpy, thanks.

Even thunderstorm, catch, and black eye are hell for Cairo Legendary.

Catch is an awesome skull for CS, especially when Sputnik is active. Black Eye is great for tricking but there is not much tricking to be had outside of Grumpy's tutorials on getting outside the station from the armory. Thunderstorm on its own is a pain, matched with Ghost, Mythic and Famine, it is an absolute acid enema.

Gotta say that Mythic, Assassins and Catch make it hell. Add Armory into the mix, and it just got 10 times worse.
