I was reading through the old halo manual that came with the game a few minutes ago, and while reading up on the weapons, i noticed, that is says, in the very first sentance of the sniper rifles description:

S2 AM Sniper Rifle
This rifle is a gas-operated magazine-fed weapon...

So this brings me to the question of, will, for some reason, the sniper rifle ever run out of gas, rather than ammo, if they're using a similar concept for halo 2? It doesn't look like the rifle can hold that much gas, so if for some reason, you were on an all snipers map and didn't die with the same rifle for ages, i reackon that you should run out of gas.

It's probably like a moped and gets lots of shots per gallon.

All guns are gas powered. It's not talking about liquid gas, rather air-partical gas. If you ever see an M16A4 or AK47 fire, notice the gray "smoke" comming out the muzzle? That's acually the gas it uses to fire and repumps everytime it is fired. So to answer you, no, it will NEVER run out of gas. :)

No, no. Gas operated is the type of blowback system. Guns have 3 different types of systems. Can't remember them all. The blowback system is what extracts the spent shell from the gun. Gas operated means that expanding gas from the exploding cartridge pushes back the cylinder inside the gun where the shell is magnetized to it, and spits it out of the gun.......................It's the blowback system!
spring recoil
gas
(something else)

Ohhhhhh it all makes sence now! I'm not an expert at guns so that's why i was asking.

Another question though.

Will we be able to find extra 'battries' for the plasma powered weapons now? I'm not talking about just picking up new ones, but being able to pick up it's 'ammo.'

Not all guns are gas operated.

And the gray "smoke" really is smoke. The "gas" is the air expanding from the charge going off. The expanding air moves parts (I won't go into details) inside the gun, and this chanbers a new round.

Lol. I'm not either. The only gun I've fired is a Daisey BB gun. But I just watched Mail Call and they were talking about how guns get rid of spent shells. Good ol History Channel.
I think there won't be batteries for some reason. Then it will become more like other guns and not as special. Um... yea.

possibly, but I don't think it's neccesary.

All the Covenant troops carry plasma, so ass you kick their sorry asses it will still be faster to just scoop a new gun off of the ground than to stop and reload.

if i am not mistake i belive that is just a balancing system to help keep it from becoming barrel heavy, and on some rifles they have the biposds mounted on the end.
