So...I lost my internet connection for a few days after a thunderstorm. i decided to kill some time with a 3d model of the DMR made from scratch and fantasy.

here's the model I have made. It's not very detailed. but I guess I want a cleaner design than the original

I'm currently in the process of texturing. I had problems with that but I solved them. so I guess this will be the official project thread...

I don't know much about sketchup but that's pretty cool!

That is actually really good. I would say to keep adding detail!

I think the textures are added in a rendering software but I am not sure.

I found out how to texture it easiely.

make texture>make face the same size as object>add image as texture>adjust image to fit face>select "Projected" in the Texture menu>alt click the face with paint tool>use paint tool on object's face...

it was good enough for me. so I kinda dont need help with it anymore. now the thread is for the WIP...

Do you have regular sketchup or sketchip pro? If you have pro then you can save it as a .3ds file and port over into better rendering programs such as C4D, 3DSMax, or Maya.

I guess thats me :D
Well i'd be glad to give you a hand

Alright so first of all, if you are making something thats already designed (ie. DMR) your best off using the original textures , but in order to do that, the outline of your model must match as close as possible to the original. For example, the size and proportions have to be similar but you do not have to include details. Heres an image to work off of If i can get a download of your model i can fully explain, but for the curves question, you can texture each edge manually but in order to do that you must unsoften the edges. To do this you have to select the "eraser" tool and hold down ctrl + shift (idk how if you have a mac) while you drag the tool across the soften/curved edge. Another way is to go to "view" and then "hidden geometry" . Once you've done that you can position every texture independently. Simply use the image as a texture and use the paint-bucket to fill each one individually. After you've done that you can reposition the texture to make it fit by right clicking on the face that you've just painted and clicking "texture" then "position". Play around with it so that your satisfied then right click and "done". Make sure that "texture > Projected" is not selected. Once your done with all the textures, just soften them again with "eraser + ctrl key". Hope that helped. There is a different faster but less accurate method but it is very difficult to explain. If you can send me your model to unlimitedguy2@hotmail.com I could help much much better, i can also render it for you.
Cheers

thanks for the offer.
but I have found a way to texture it as I said in a previous post. it may not be the simplest but I'm happy with the results.

I also have SU Podium for rendering. it's working well for my usage.

about putting the whole render pic onto it. I dont think it would work well. because my model is based on fantasy and a simple picture I had when a thunderstorm killed my internet for a few day's

I'll email it to you anyway...if you still want it or need something to do...

It is interesting, but you should add some concept in the sketch and a little bit more detail.

please explain...

update
I have now textured about everything. I consider it as finished. as I only wanted a simple DMR.

I have pictures!

the main reason I made it was to learn how to apply textures in a good way.

now the problem is that when I render it some textures move, resize or vanish. until I fix that I won't publish any renders..

thanks for the support people. I will put it up on Warehouse soon
