I have to say, originally I thought the books weren't going to be that great and that it was just a platform for a writer who couldn't think of a good story on his own. But by currently reading them, granted I am only half-way through the first, I have to say they are good, and I hope stuff makes it into the game; unless I am missing some huge plotpoint in the 2nd-3rd books that changes the story.

Nothing? How about the Battle Rifle or smg? Brutes, Prophets or Engineers? Those are all from the books. You might want to rephrase that just a bit.

he meant plot-wise

That's my opinion. The average gamer won't know wtf Dr. Hasely is (I don't) or the other crapola. So if it is in Halo 2 it will leave the gamer who played Halo dazed and confused and crying in the corner. I really feel good about this theory but I know I will be disputed by the book lovers. Go controversy. Give me a C, give me a... okay I'll stop.

........................First off in the Halo xbox game manual in the prologue it said " Master Cheif and a few more aew surviving Spartand from Reach. That's in the book's.

Yeah, someone else mentioned the Halo Bible, which is the whole story of Halo. Since Halo and Halo 2 and all 3 books were based on the Halo Bible, I think it's safe to say, the story from the books will continue in Halo 2.

I think the question we should be asking is how will H2 follow on from FS... ?

Everyone asking the samething.. I think this topic was brought up to question whether or not Halo 2 will give the gamer information on what happened between the first game and the second. To those who have read the books, that answer would be First Strike. So, is Halo 2 going to recap somewhat from First Strike in the game, or will it just start off where First Strike ended and give you a summery in the booklet?

I have been wondering this myself, since the first time I played Halo through it wasn't my copy so I didn't have the booklet to read. I was confused as all hell but all I knew was I had to kill things. Which wasn't a bad thing. There is just so much that happened plotwise between Halo and Halo 2 that makes me question how Bungie is going to give us this info.

Of course, they could just say MC flew back to Earth in the longsword. People who didn't read the books wouldn't know that's impossible. But Bungie is smarter than that. We'll just have to see.

The author wrote the books in cooperation with bungie, they told him what the game would be like and the storyline and he put that into his books, sure they will probably make it so that non readers can get the idea but people who read the books will understand alot more. Like: the history of the Spartans, more detail into why johnson survived, and know alot more about ONI and how they found earth.

Hey Shplade! I think you got a point about most people not knowing but they can't just drop the whole plot. I think Bungie will still use the story thats being portrayed as a baseline for the game but they'll do it without requiring knowledge from the books. Happy Pie for All!

The authors don't make it up. Bungie has a thing called the Halo Bible in which the whole story of Halo from beginning to end is explained. The authors take from that. They wouldn't be the official books of the Xbox game if the authors made it up.

Halo Bible? Where'd you get that? Maybe it exists, but I kind of doubt Jason Jones really knows what the end of the Halo story will bring. They probably have a foggy idea, but things often change over time. And think about the number of sequels. Does Bungie really know how many Halo games they'll make? I don't think anyone who works there knows either. How long will they milk the series? One or two more games, I hope. I've never played ONI but that sort of ties into the Halo storyline, doesn't it? When they wrote that game, do you think they really knew what would happen in Halo 2? hehe... so yeah....

anyway um. I agree with the thread's subject line. They wont include anything in the game that requires you to have read the books to understand. Halo 1 knowledge will be suffice. and even people who haven't played Halo 1 and start off on Halo 2 (if such people exist) will probably be able to pick up everything just as easily. I'm guessing they'll have like a "let's recap what happened from Halo 1" section or something. but eh. Of course the books probably help you to understand things that people who haven't read them wont get. but they wont say anything that requires you to read em.... so. probably just repeating what other people have said. but eh.

I wonder if the game will include anything about a Queen or Widow, as the bee site suggests. again, you probably wont have to have any knowledge of the ilovebees campaign, but if you know what it is, you'll be able to smile a little more when you play the game and they refer to it.

There is what Bungie themselves have called a halo Bible, in it is the entire storyline for every character that has been and will be in the Halo Universe. So yes, Jason Jones does know where it is going to end, just as Eric Nylund knew exactly what to write about in the books.

I'm willing to bet that Halo 2 will begin shortly after FS ends, with the small crew heading back to and reaching Earth. But there will probably be a large opening sequencewith one of the crew explaining to an ONI officer or something what the hell happened, cause if you dont play through any of the First Strike story, you still gotta know that

(SPOILER WARNING)

Johnson and a few soldiers survived Halo. MC picked up some fellow Spartans on Reach. They destroyed nearly all of the amassed covenant fleet already.

Those things at least need to be explained, the crystal and other elements that seem to play a huge part later can be explained when they come up in the story, but those things at least people oughtta know before playing.
