I was thinking. they are in this huge city, what looks like some blade runner megopolis, and there is not one civilian scattering about. even if there was an evacuation and even if the convenant hit hard and killed most in their initial assault there should be at least civilian bodies laying around or an occasional civilian running accross the street. ducking for cover,. i just think it would make the feeling of being on earth that much more real. mmmm not sure though. i would love to there other players thoughts though because i am stumped on this and havent heard anything

yeah i mean one thing i loved on halo was that you constantly could see you were on this ring. i mean it wrapped the sky it made you constantly relize you were there. i think they need more of those visual cues. for example civilians

i think everyone needs to remember that what we saw a year ago was an early demo of halo2. a year is a lot of time to improve something that already looked better than everything we have NOW. dont worry guys. the atmosphere will be there

while there are cities in Halo 2, there will probley be little presence of any cilvians. in one weekly update, Frankie said that the city had been prepared for the attack. that includeing evac and fortifying (i.e. concreat slabs, locked mettle doors, and messages on the bildboards for the troops.)

however to condradict that, your primary objective (according to all previews) is to protect humanaity.

all we can do is wait and deal with what bungie throws at us.

I hope there are no civilians. I'm sick and tired of every game saying on the mission objective screen "no civilian casualties". I want to mow down the covenant, not protect some wimpy bystander from certain doom. In fact that's one of the things I loved about Halo. There were no civilians, and every human had a gun. So unless the civilians would be dishing out a can of whoopass, I probably won't want to see them. Besides, games can be still realistic without civilians.

in the first part of the e3 demo you can see a civilian ( i donno if its one but its not a soldier or covie) but as soon as you get off the drop ship and talk to corperal puerez look straight over his right shoulder and youll see somthing or some one walking on the street behind him

Well I would prefer civilians in the game most definitely. First of all, I kinda' like protecting humans from being slaughtered by covenant and jumping into the fray to give some civilian time to run to cover would be awesome. Gives you more of a sense of purpose rather than: Covenant bad. Dead covenant good. Also, like many other people have said, it would add realism. When saving earth from almost certain doom, the chief would be bound to run into snags and complications with civilians, wounded, etc.

i would be sweet if u found civilians the marines would dish out guns to them and then u could have these punks running around getting knocked back by the kick of their AR rifle and trying to be tactical and stuff

I wouldn't mind having civilians in any of the cities we will conquer. However, I would not like to have your mission fail if you killed a civilian. If you went "rampant" and killed innocent bystanders mercilesly, then yes, some invincible Marines should come and kill you. Otherwise, it is too easy for indiscriminate fire (machine guns, rockets, explosives) to kill a number of noncombatents and fail your operation.

What they need is like in the begining of the level for like a corner full of people huddling around a fire, who are all civilians. SO the first time you play through is like owww, how sad. Then seconed time, you throw a granade right in the center of the circle and see bodys FLY!!!!!!!!!

remember this is EARTH that the covenant are attacking this is humanities last stand it was probable that when all the other colonies were getting glassed the UN must've trained and equipped every man woman and child in the solar system because no one is going to be taken prisoner and there is no escaping this war

so there are no civilians because they are fighting the covenant whether they like it or not

OOHH MY GOD READ THE BOOKS!

Earth knows the covenant are assaulting the earth, with a force gathered beforehand, thanks to the "Ascendant Justice+Gettysburg's" crew

Earth isnt dumb the civilians wuld be EVAC from the streets ages pre battle

Where would they go? There must be tens of millions of people in that city, it was huge! They have to go somewhere, and wherever they go the Covenant go. It would be rather hard to hide away however many billions of people must live on Earth in the twenty-sixth century. And why would the Covenant attack an abandoned city? They want to kill as many humans as they can, and to do that they're going to hit the civilian population. As the defender of humanity, the Master Chief would be wherever the civilians are in order to protect them. Also, in the Fall of Reach, the Spartans rescue civilians from Cote d'Azur on Sigma Octanus Four.

you think that is a big city? current day that is kenya in mombasa! we are more advanced than them now in terms of cities and we will be more advanced than them in cities in the future! and for now, the covenant just want to invade earth, simple, if they take thier time, takre over an abadoned place, and use it as a base to destroy the world instead of just dropping the covenant where they are gonna encounter too much resistance... MC isnt the defender of humanity, but or humanities most precious thng, its planet...earth, i dont want civillians in the battle field, but maybe in a safe corner somewhere where you could talk to them... no where near where you might be firing...

thanks for the replies guys, gave me some good ideas. but to the guy who said so informatively. "read the books" i have. ..... and even if you did evac all the people out of the city. i personally feel it gives you that visual cue of what your fighting for. Sorta like when your on halo and you see that ring where ever you are outside you see it. a constant reminder where you are and what you are doing. I just think there is not a real logical way to explain your way out of at least a few civilians in a level. Even if they evacuated the city, not everyone leaves. it never happens. when hurricanes come to the florida coast and the call for evacuations not everyone leaves. people feel secure in their homes. So maybe a good trade off is to have along with fellow marines , RESISTANCE fighters running around. and only on levels it makes since like in an earth city. that would be pretty cool, that way if they were killed it would be friendly fire and would play through smoothly
