Halo's multiplayer sucks. You read correctly. There is a reason why CoD:MW2 beats it so bad in terms of players. I have played Halo since the original CE days, and after trying to return to the game I realize that multiplayer sucks.

Here is why;

1. Quitters. In Halo when a teammate quits or backs out you are majorly disadvantaged. In Call of Duty, that missing teammate is quickly replaced by a new player and fairness returns to the game. People are going to quit, whether it be from lag or otherwise, and Bungie should have accounted for it.

2. Halo's maps are all designed to look good rather than designed for functionality. In Call of Duty, each map is designed around a specific weapon set, and the game flows much better because of it.

3. Ranking system and experience. In Halo, you gain experience points by winning games, regardless of how well you do in the game. If I get 30 kills and 2 deaths and my team wins, I still get the same amount of experience as I would if I died 20 times and got 5 kills and my team still won. There is no individual reward system outside of FFA matches.

4. No way to know how you died. In Halo, the only time you can figure out "WTF?" deaths is to visit the theater after the game. In COD, you get a live replay of how you were killed and by what weapon.

I would go on, but this is already getting longer than I wanted. Halo does have advantages, the biggest one is drivable vehicles. And of course Forge mode.

Get the -blam!- out of these forums -blam!-. Bungie has made the best maps ever. Could you make better ones? No so don't talk -blam!-.

No. I am saying COD is better because of the individual ranking system, killcams, and the fact that quitters are replaced by fresh players. It is in no way the best FPS out there, don't put words in my mouth. I am only saying it has clear advantages over Halo.

You're saying two different things. Saying that Halo 3 multiplayer sucks and saying that CoD multiplayer has clear advantages are far from the same thing.

That being said, I do agree with your last sentence of the above paragraph. Cod is "prettier", people can fill in games, and there are killcams to see how you got owned. Still, I believe that halo 3 is a superior game, as a few advantages don't make CoD better. As you look at my reasons why, realize that this is completely a subjective argument and I probably won't make you believe anything.

The first reason is the lack of teamwork involved in CoD. The whole game is essentially Lone Wolves, except you only kill half the people you see. This is caused by two things. A., instead of having to pick up good weapons, players start with them, promoting camping and individual work. In halo, teams have to work together to get good weapons and an advantage. B., people die so fast in CoD that there is really no teamwork involved in combat. Instead, players operate individually in killing enemies. This brings me to my second point.

Halo 3 multiplayer is superior to CoD because it is not a matter of "who sees who first". To understand this, think of FPSs as having two dimensions; positioning/strategy skill and situational/combat skill. These are both necessary to succeed at Halo, as you need to know not only how to position yourself (look at the abundance of setups in high-level gaming), but you also need to be able to kill someone quickly and efficiently, which isn't always easy. However, while you need some strategy in CoD (positioning is somewhat important), there is little to no combat skill involved, as two or three shots from most guns will kill someone. therefore, Halo requires more combat skill and at least as much, if not more, strategy.

Yeah, so that's why I think halo's better.

plus halo 3's ranking system is better bkuz u dont rank up everytime u get a helicopter or an airstrike...in halo u have to work to get ur kill...and if u win a match u get 1 experience so its alot harder to get ur rank not just harder but fun..and then u have skill with is an even better ranking system..

wow you must of haved a great day

The only real argument you can make if you're trying to describe the ways in which Halo 3's multiplayer sucks isn't any of the things you listed.

It's that whoever is in charge of the playlists is doing a miserable job of keeping them fresh. Matchmaking has gotten so stale over the years that it makes me wonder if anyone from Bungie is actually still playing their game. I didn't want to quit playing matchmaking, because of the literally endless possibilities of maps and gametypes that could be implemented to keep things fresh. However, this potential was overlooked. It's like nobody really cared much about the matchmaking experience.

Designed for railgun primaries and shotgun secondaries. Sweet.
Danger Close, One Man Army launchers need not apply.

I dont agree.

5,000 xp for getting a kill while crouched? what is that? honestly...

I'll stick to halo where you don't get rewarded for doing things as basic as pressing in the left stick.

What game are you talking about? you get 100xp for regular kills or 1000 for search and destroy...

MW2 I remember there being a challenge (i may well be wrong) to get 5 kills while crouching and you get a ton of xp (I dont know how much). Its ridiculous. You should only get xp for winning, it focuses the game more. That is why I prefer the ranking in Halo.

Your attempting to act like your OPINION is a fact.

It is not.

Its fine to have an opinion, but don't act like its a fact.

fear me, for i am pro sauce

if you hate halo why are you on bungie?

  • 07.04.2010 2:29 PM PDT

If I want to play Halo 3, I play Halo 3. As you can see, I play Reach.

I loved Halo 3, then I played Reach and never looked back. I really liked Reach, and then I tried Black Ops and realized just how awesome Reach really is!

I could see where the op may have a few good *suggestions*, but I would also put it that the ops point is that in their opinion, MW2 is a better game because it supports his individualistic playstyle much better than Halo 3.

I would like the idea of bringing in a replacement if you have a quitter, but it would need tweaking for halo. First off, our games are rather short. Secondly, who wants to join in a game where one side is getting run? Would just cause more quits.

I hate killcam, personally. If you sniped me from across the map, sometimes I do wish I knew where you were, but I'm glad it doesn't. Because when I kill you from my hiding hole, I don't want you knowing. It's pure tactics, versus mechanics.

I think reach is addressing the personalization/exp gained issue nicely. As YOU improve, you gain more gear, following your own personal stats. But as well, I hope they keep an upgrade form of Halo 3's ranking. You only get boosts if your TEAM wins, no matter how mcawsome you are.

I like Halo 3's maps. They aren't designed specifically around certain weapons. In fact, almost every weapon in Halo 3 is effective on almost every map, with very few 'power weapons' completely running a map. Look at The Pit. Swords and rockets ARE powerful, but just owning them won't let you rack kills.

Finally, I say cheaters/hackers exist in EVERY SINGLE FPS EVER MADE. In Halo, there are the second accounters and derankers and the rare few aimbot users. But nobody can argue that COD is without their own gambut. I just prefer HAlO's cheaters, to be honest. I mean, a second accounter is one game, a deranker is a useless player no matter which team, and the aimbots are very rare, especially in low to mid ranges. I can deal with them all simply by starting a new game.

My third montage!

Most of what you stated is in fact, opinion. You're certainly entitled to your own opinion. I disagree with you. I can't stand CoD's multiplayer. It's just garbage to me. Battlefield is a much better "realistic" shooter. But I don't try to compare Halo to CoD or Halo to Battlefield. They are all good for different reasons.

It also has nothing to do with Halo 3 coming out 3 years ago and MW2 coming out half a year ago.

Jacoby

1. Learn to play better to make up for lost teammates.
2. I think you got a little tongue tied... or type tied... anyways, because Halo's maps function amazingly and provide for excellent and addicting gameplay that no CoD game could ever supply.
3. Go play CoD. Just cause this game actually takes skill and teamwork to rank up doesn't mean you have to be a hater. just cause you can't rank up doesn't mean it's bad.
4. Really? Can you honestly not tell what killed you? Check your eyes please.

I know some of you probably have not played MW2. If you have, you could bring up the fact that there are so many mod lobbies in the game, people who cheated/boosted for their ranks, and second accouters who wreck noobs unfairly.

Why would you find MW2 players in a halo forum? ^Logic fail^

Nice counter argument. Unfortunately I do not know to quote.

1. Friends lag out and drop as well. That does not solve the problem.

2. I will give you that one, but I still think COD maps have much better design around certain weapon types.

3. Teamwork or not it is not fair when I worked my ass off for my team and still get the same amount of experience points and little if any change in TrueSkill rank.

4. I disagree.

I guess that you're responding to me with this?
Anyway, you can quote by replying to the post you wish to quote and pressing the "quote" button next to "cancel" under the text box.

That aside:
1.-blam!- happens. I'd only support a drop in/out system for social games, even then it could cause a lot of host migration and simply slow games down. Halo simply isn't designed for that kind of casual gameplay, hence players who quit excessively are banned in an attempt to curb this type of behaviour.

2. Please explain a little more, are you saying that certain maps in CoD are designed to reward using certain weapon types (Assault Rifle, SMG, LMG, Sniper Rifle, etc...)?
I'd think this would be great if players weren't in control of their own weapons from spawn and weren't rewarded for simply having more playtime logged in game via the unlock system.

3. Well, if you can carry a team take comfort in your abilities and the fact that you won.
You can't really bash a game for a design element which encourages players to play how the developers want them to; in this case as a team.

4.Fair enough, this was only an opinion, but I always find the Killcam to be the most frustrating and effective anti-Sniper tool in Call of Duty games.
I'll happily get my ass handed to me if I can learn more after the game, including watching a re-run of how my killer got into his spot and exactly where he was. I believe that it allows me to learn without having me instantly begin hunting down a successful member of the other team who demonstrates better knowledge of the game. After all, why should a player be penalised for accomplishing the objective of a game (in this case killing others as the game is an FPS)?

f0ck bungie

People quit just as often if not more in MW2. The spawns in MW2 are the worst due to the payback spwaning system. I have killed many people only to have them spawn not 50 feet behind me. Then theres the One man army danger close , MARATHON LIGHT WEIGHT CAMMOANDO, and every one running around with NOOB TUBES. Then we come to a knife being the most powerful weapon in the game and over powered killstreaks. Not to mention death streaks. MW2 is the worst FPS made to date.

P.S. CoD 4 was awsome in my opinion

  • 07.04.2010 3:14 PM PDT

I agree with all of these..
and it's even worse in social matchmaking when a teammate quits, especially when you're stuck with some 13 year old and his "guest" friend.
