1. Quitters. In Halo when a teammate quits or backs out you are majorly disadvantaged. In Call of Duty, that missing teammate is quickly replaced by a new player and fairness returns to the game. People are going to quit, whether it be from lag or otherwise, and Bungie should have accounted for it.
This drop in drop out system would not work for Halo 3, considering that every match goes on record you could join matches that you are already losing badly. A solution to the Halo quitting problem would be to implement a better thought out ranking system, but in the mean time search with friends or party up with people.
2. Halo's maps are all designed to look good rather than designed for functionality. In Call of Duty, each map is designed around a specific weapon set, and the game flows much better because of it.MW2's maps are probably the worst maps I have ever played on in an FPS, they do not in fact promote different styles of play (something COD4 did right), Halos maps on the other hand (or at least the ones worth mentioning) are based around arena style mid range combat, but you also need to be efficient with CQC and long range in order to be successful.

3. Ranking system and experience. In Halo, you gain experience points by winning games, regardless of how well you do in the game. If I get 30 kills and 2 deaths and my team wins, I still get the same amount of experience as I would if I died 20 times and got 5 kills and my team still won. There is no individual reward system outside of FFA matches.A "exp per kill" system promotes selfish play and statwhoring instead of going for the win, not to mention that the ranking system actually shows your skill progression.

4. No way to know how you died. In Halo, the only time you can figure out "WTF?" deaths is to visit the theater after the game. In COD, you get a live replay of how you were killed and by what weapon.
... Seriously? The only time you would not know how you died in Halo is when something random happens (like an angry cone, or rocket from the other side of the map). Every other time you would see the person that killed you in your corpse view while you wait to spawn, and if you don't notice then its not the games fault it's yours for having bad awareness.

CoD maps are made to look good...
have you seen all the useless detail.

  • 07.04.2010 11:30 PM PDT

Really? Would you not use the Sniper on Narrows? Would you not use the shotgun on high ground? Would you Not use the laser on avelanche or Standoff? And what person would use the same 1 or 2 weapon sets on the same maps? You're in a rut. Your trolling is a joke.

Unlike halo's.

Look at assembly, and look at the background.

I reckon
The skyboxes in Reach will be ten times better

on behalf of the halo community GTFO and go play your hacker filled, -blam!-y spawn, boosting filled game of mw2 and leave halo and the community alone with the people enjoy the game.

I own both Halo 3 (including Halo 3: ODST) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It is my opinion that Halo 3's multiplayer is better simply because of the ammount of skill required to compete and win.

The main reason behind this is the reduction of variables. In Halo 3, everyone has the same starter weapons, and generally have an equal chance to grab other weapons, including power weapons. It includes a small ammount of weapons, and each map focuses on gameplay, for the most part. Weapons themselves are balanced, and only become inballanced when one team has poor map control. In Modern Warfare 2, players can choose many, many starting weapons, perks, equipment, killstreaks, and deathstreaks. Also, the maps feature too many features, leading to camping, and little sense of map control (and with that comes the sides of the map switching around frequently). While the introduction of these adds much more personal customization and caters to the type of user, it additionally adds many new variables to the already complex equasion of multiplayer, leading to it taking less skill.

Additionally, weapons kill in few hits, unlike Halo 3, where it takes many well aimed shots to take down a player. While this is realistic, and allows easier kills, it removes the reaction time that makes Halo take so much skill. In Modern Warfare 2, any small advantage a player has (been hidden, far away, or camping), leads to a major imballance in the combat between two players. For instance, if a camper is sitting by the stairs, and you run up, he'll shoot you instantly with his shotgun, killing you, before you have a chance to react, even if he's a pro. In Halo 3, it takes more then a lucky shot and a small advantage to kill a player. A skilled player can easily turn the tide of battle and make a comeback. That's not to say that advantages such as that don't exist in Halo 3, and aren't helpful, but they have a much, much smaller effect.

In all honesty, I enjoy playing Modern Warfare 2, however, I believe in all sincerity, that Halo 3 is simply the superior game in multiplayer.

TL;DR:
1. I own both games.
2. Halo 3 is better at multiplayer because more skill is involved.
3. Halo 3 has less variables then MW2, making it take more skill.
4. In Halo 3, a good player can turn the tide of battle, even when at a disadvantage, also making it take more skill.

Halo and Call of Duty work in two completely different ways. In Call of Duty, you get experience for anything, meaning that joining mid-game hardly changes your exp per minute. But Halo gives you experience for winning a match, therefore joining mid-game, hardly doing anything to help your team win, and then getting experience for it shouldn't be allowed.

Clearly you do not know what you are talking about. Yes, Halo's maps have nice aesthetics, but they tend to play well too. Take 'The Pit', this map has balance, which is why people still don't like to to veto it. Also, designing a map around a specific weapon set is stupid. It allows anybody using that weapon set to have a clear advantage over people using different weapon sets.

Although I understand why you dislike the 'no personal reward' system, Call of Dutys experience system isn't actually very good. Say I'm playing Capture the Flag on CoD, I can go 30 kills to 3 deaths, not touch the flag, and still get more points than the guy on my team who's captured all of the flags. Despite the fact that I may not have helped my team to win the game.

Ok, a kill cam might be nice, but it is not neccasary, half of the time (in CoD) I end up skipping it anyway, it is very rare that I need to see how I died.

No. I am saying COD is better because of the individual ranking system, killcams, and the fact that quitters are replaced by fresh players. It is in no way the best FPS out there, don't put words in my mouth. I am only saying it has clear advantages over Halo.

If the OP sees this video and doesn't say anything about it, he's either a CoD fanboy in the bungie forums or just stupid.

Show no mercy! I HAZ RECONZ! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

I've played Halo 3. I've played Modern Warfare 2.
Halo 3's Flaws:
-Grenade Spam
-Rocket Rush
-Headshots Spartan vs. Elites
-No player replacement in case some randoms on your team leave
-Vehicles (Instability at several occasions)
-Lag can f*** you over more than MW2
(...there are probably more, but it's been awhile since I've played Halo 3.)
Modern Warfare 2 Flaws:
-10th Prestige Glitchers
-Overpowered weapons (i.e. M16, Famas, Scar)
-Cheap Features (Thermal Scopes, Noobtubing, grenade/rocket spam)
-Lack of teamwork and tactics
-Gameplay revolves on who has the better connection
-Promotion of camping (Thank you Tactical Nuke!)
-GLITCHES
-Has little variety to just goof off. (Micheal Meyers, really?)
-Less customization compared to Halo 3(Character, gametype, MAP)
-No party chat in certain playlists

the ranking system in Halo: Reach is going to be different, don't get your big girl panties in a bunch. if you're worried about XP rankings don't play team based games, play Lone Wolves, that way if someone leaves who cares, you're on your own

Here's Forty Shillings on the Drum,
For those who Volunteer to come,
to list and fight and fall today
over the hills and far away

I completely agree with the OP. I hate the fact that Halo 3s maps have been talored to fit many different game types. I hate the fact that there is more to do than simply kill the enemy. I hate the fact that I don't spawn and then I'm instantly killed by a harrier. And do you know what I hate the most? I can't camp and get cheap easy kills. I actually have to work to get a kill on halo. I mean wtf bungie...

Its not that Halo sucks, Maybe thats just not your game type...

  • 07.05.2010 3:53 AM PDT

MW2 isnt all that perfect though... the respawns are wickedly dumb, Allthoughh Halo's respawns are even, other side of the map, and better than MW2's spawn points... and also the fact that you can get stuck like everywhere: on a corner, on a floor, stuff like that. and MW2 has alot of Boosters, Hackers, 10th lobbies, and scammers... besides MW2 isnt all that cool, people dont like it, they just think " OH MY! a new game out, its years best! i should buy it" Think about it, if Bungie made a "Pac-Man" game everyone would buy...
