Halo 1 & 2 for PC

So I decided to reinstall Halo 2 for PC as I want to finish Halo 2 and its running horribly! I remember it running bad... but not this bad maybe somehow it was easier to play in that bad condition with a controller (which I no longer have)

But my question what is a good system to actually run it, obviously microsoft did a horrible job porting this but still... I would think my Intel Core 2 Quad + Nvideo 9300 Graphics Card + 4 gigs of ram would be good enough...

You have a better chance running Crysis then the POS

Wow.... Microsoft did that bad of a porting job... You think hey would have some sort of quality assurance area where they test it to run properly.... The scary thing is it's rated for dual cores in 2007.... Wait that might explain a bit... If my understanding is correct. Depending on how they compile and program it , it may only be capable of using 2 of the cores in he processor... Which would cause issues as my proccessor is 2.33 Ghz quad the other was 3 Ghz dual... Hiuh I would think tha it would ether. E pathed or ha windows should handle that... Meh I just wanted see he story play out and see the cutscenes so I will either go on YouTube or on easy

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I was probably the only person dumb enough to buy Vista and an upgraded computer for H2V. I started with 2.4 GHz quad and the game ran like crap. It worked better on 3.0 Ghz dual. The game only uses one core. Your graphics chip won't be able to handle it either. That might be good though; I'm pretty sure the game controls suffer on all NVIDIA hardware when the framerate skyrockets. I'd rather play at 30 FPS than have a game I can't control. Oh wait... the Xbox 360 controller worked fine. Free aimbot, too? Count me in!

lol free aimbot.
To think they could never optimize for multi-cores just makes me think, how dumb they are, are we on xbox1's or something, is that why they felt it unnessesary to upgrade the game?

The bare minimum required to turn more profit off Bungie's prior work. Minimum output, maximum profit. The Microsoft way! H2V could have been so much better than the Xbox version but instead it's a steamy coiler of fail. I know that's old news... just felt like saying it some more.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Bingo. The game doesn't play correctly with a mouse and keyboard. There is input mouse lag that is easily mistaken for sluggish frame rate/performance. H2v was ported by a bunch of Microsoft Game Studios hacks who most likely spent more effort testing with a 360 controller than mouse keyboard. I'll keep saying that until one of the aforementioned hacks shows up here and tells me that I'm wrong. The game is just pure garbage if you use a mouse. For some reason, Bungie forgot that they were supposed to make a PC game for PC gamers. I realize that controllers are becoming more popular with kiddo PC gamers who also play a lot of Xbox, but most of us still use mouse and keyboard for the precise controls.

^ Bungie had absolutely nothing to do with Halo 2 Vista.

Eh I have a Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz + NVIDIA 9800M GS Graphics Card + 4GB RAM and I am getting over 90 and 100fps most of the time. It runs fantastic on my laptop. o_O Do you have all the vista service pack updates and such? I really don't know why people are having problems.

ugh, another idiot.

Who's working on Halo 2 for Windows Vista? How does this game relate to Halo 3?

The hard work of bringing Halo 2 to Windows Vista is being done by a team within Microsoft Game Studios, codenamed Hired Gun. Bungie is helping Hired Gun with design decisions and quality assurance. The teams for H2V and Halo 3 are completely separate.

The Room where we have our server almost looks like a large empty room with an ancient death machine in it.

I only have no problem running H2V on my laptop. I'm only running a 2.4GHZ AMD Turion x2, 4GB RAM, with an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card. I run the game on medium-low settings with about 25FPS. I guess it's just how picky you are with game quality. I personally am just thankful to be playing the game.

The only problem I had was installing it on a Windows 7 System. I had to revert back to Windows Vista to install then Upgrade install windows 7 after that.

I know there is a work-around, I just don't know where to find it.

They didn't develop the game and anything to do with it is out of their control. They can't release patches or anything for it, from interviews I've read they really have nothing to do with the game.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Here is the offical dev blog.

The only mention of bungie is here:
So the Hired Gun team is a new team that was formed within Microsoft Game Studios to develop Halo 2 for Windows Vista. The team has worked closely with Bungie on all the creative aspects of development to make sure that the original intent of the game is maintained as it is moved over to Windows Vista.

However, on the games page, h2pc is listed under "External Projects".

You use the controller or mouse?

Saying Bungie had "absolutely nothing" to do with H2v is flat out wrong. They didn't have much to do, but it's their game and they helped. Now that they game is a POS, they lie and say they didn't have anything to do with it, and many people like you believe it.

Guardian, are you serious about the Nvidia 9300? That alone is awfully low end, on newegg.com I cant even find anything lower than a 9400. Your Core2Quad and 4 gigs of ram is more than enough to run it well. But your Geforce 9300 is your bottleneck no matter what game you play. Since it's a laptop, you're really screwed.

Side note: No a 9300 cannot run Crysis
