My apologies, but another query about lag and I just want to understand why. Can somebody please explain to me why I can't play HALO on my computer ?

I have just bought my 1st home PC running :
P4 3Ghz
1024Mb DDR400 Ram (2x512)
128Mb GeForce FX5200 Video Card (I know everybody hates these, but it should still give me something !)
120Gb (7200rpm) 8Mb Cache IDE Hard Drive
Windows XP Professional

I have :
Downloaded all the latest updates and patches for XP
Downloaded the latest drivers for the NVidia card
Downloaded the latest patches for HALO
Switched off the Anti-Aliasing on the NVidia card

I have turned the game settings down to the bare minimum and in single player mode it is STILL completely unplayable, running at what seems like a couple of frames per second whenever the action starts. By the time I manage to target something, it's already run off.

I've played Painkiller (Single player and online multi-player) and Far Cry, and both of these are graphically much more detailed than HALO, yet both of them run smoothly at high settings without any flicker or lag and the quality of the rendering is staggering.

So my question is, if my machine is up to date and working just fine with all the other games I've tried, what is so different about HALO that it makes me feel like smacking my head with a large rock until I see stars ?

I believe that what your system is missing is a much needed tweaking. For the best guide around, go to TweakTown here for the best guide to tweaking your computer called "Reformat to Relax: A complete Guide to Tweaking Win XP". I can garuntee (sp?) that every tweak is safe, as I have used everyone of them to great effect on my computer. The actual guide is here .
