You all bring up very good points. Time travel is a hard thing to wrap yourself around, and yes, if your not a good story writer than it can come of very CHEESY. If my theory is even half correct, then let us hope Bungie knows how to let it on easily and not too strongly thus ruining the whole games experience. For instance if your able to travel in time it must come at a price. That makes it more interesing because it's not like DragonBallZ (somebody died?! OH NO! Thats okay, all we have to do is wish them back with the Dragon Balls like the last fifty times they died!) which totally takes away from the focus of what could be a rather dramatic storyline.

The reason I say 343GS didn't confuse MC for a Forerunner is because of this one line....

"Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed."

A.I. should in fact be able to remember a persons voice and personality if they can remember a question of morality like that, AND have an answer for it.

This is why I believe Master Chief played a large part in the development of either Halo, or 343GS.

Don't forget, Guilty Spark is just a weeee bit insane... He's been alone for a long time and was probably just relieved to see someone wearing some forerunner gear. And if indeed MC did build it then why would he just decide to go and cut off his head when he decided not to activate Halo... You'd think that the MC would have that little order in, "Thou shalt not threaten to or kill the Master Chief and remove his head to keep in the archives." Especially after THAT little incident... No, it just doesn't add up. As far as the familiarity, I am sure that it was programmed into the Spartan series, so it was just natural for them to know -- further proof that the scientists reverse-engineered Forerunner tech and that is the basis for much of humanity's recent advances, including the Spartans and the Mjolnir tech, probably the hyperspace tech as well.

There were some other theories like this before, but when the Bungie team made the comment about time travel stories being lame and pathetic, well, the time-travelling theories were pretty much ignored from then on.

If Master Cheif did in fact help create 343 Guilty Spark, then he would have made sure that it'd kill ANYONE to wipe out the Flood, including himself. Master Cheif knows as well as anyother person who may go through time that their future self will not believe such bulls**t. I mean, would you believe if some computer program told you one day that your going to have to save the entire human race? I doubt it. I also doubt Bungie would do that since it's far too similar to The Terminator movies.

True, Bungie did say timetravel stories were lame, but in the case that I'm talking about ti'd actually be quite unique.

Theres a big difference between Time Travel stories and Sci-Fi stories that touch on the topic of time itself. For example, theres a big difference between ghost stories, and stories that touch on the topic of life after death. Think of the difference between the movie "Ghost" and the movie "Sixth Sense". Although both based on life after death, Sixth Sense was not a typical story about a ghost, and came off as one of the most original and least cliche stories of all time.

In typical Time Travel stories we have a hero who can alter the future by going back in time. These characters almost always have the ability to do it as many times as they want with the only side effects being what you may change in the future accidentally. These are movies such as Butterfly Effect. Our hero only stops going through time when he feels everything is right where it should be. In a story like Halo, this would cheat EVERYTHING, and rule the story unbareable. However, if you could only travel through time ONCE to save the fate of mankind, then time travel wouldb't be so bad in the story. This however rules out some of my theory, but it's only an example of a catch time travel has. Some people have said that Halo might be a gate of some kind. Maybe Halo itself is built as some kind of worm hole that messes with time. This could explain the multiple Master Cheif theory. Maybe that Master Cheif was you five, or ten minutes in the future without knowing it. I still like my first theory better though, because even if it isn't true, it's more fun to think about :P

Time Travel is lame, I agree, but just remember the difference between movies like "The Time Machine" and shows like "Quantom Leap". The difference? QL's hero was a victim to his own experiment of wanting to change the course of history and could not control time, but rather only flow with it wherever it takes him. TM's hero was a scientist who actually could control time and pinpoint the exact time and date of where he wanted to travel to, and he could attempt to change anything as many times as he wanted to as long as his machine was still working.

What makes my theory pretty cool is the fact that our hero doesn't know about the whole "time travel" thing and the people who sacraficed themselves to build Halo only left small clues to guide us. Reminds me of the movie Pay Check minus the bad acting :P

Oh, and heres another quote to add to my theory.

"With travel in space comes travel in time. With new awareness of space comes new awareness of time."

Interesting.....

try this, when you get droped off by the pelican run to the front, there is a rock, jump on it, jump on the dropship, run to the back when it turns right before it zooms away jump onto the "wall" walk to the tunnle and hop down 2 or 3 ar's will pop up about 2 feet above your head and turn and shoot the covies, then disapear.

it wasnt just one assault rifle, if you look on your radar at the time it happens, you will see multiple yellow blips, but about the two Spartan theory...it might be (if anyone has read FS) Dr. Halsey and Kelly on their secret mission

oh and MC couldnt have built Halo, he was drafted into Dr. Halsey's Program when he was six years old.

i thought so too,"Dr. Halsey and Kelly on their secret mission", but its not. if you zoom in with your pistol you see two flood warriors, elite type running. ive shot one, with only on pistol shot and he fell down. kinda weak. oops i thought you mentioned the two yellow dots in the beginning of the lvl, those were flood. but in the cavern where keys and his men.
