I notice that so many people post fanfics in the new mombasa section that there is just too many of them. So I was wondering why doesnt bungie make a forum section for people to post there fanfics so they can stop flooding new mombasa with fanfics?

There's a fanfic directory thread.

It's been discussed before and that's the best Recon could come up with, short of the fanfic community pulling together and making a Group. Any new Forums are unlikely to come until Achronos restructures the Forums, at the time Bungie announce their next product.

Sadly I say NO, just because there are alot of Chapters, and there is a directory.

I know theres a directory thread. But I think that fanfics dont belong in New Mombasa. Everyone keeps posting it there and it doesnt have anything to do with the game in general. Thats why I brought up this thought because I think that these Fanfics belong somewhere else.

I think that it would be a reasonably good idea to make a fanfic forum. That way other forums will not get cluttered up with the ever increasing popularity of fanfics.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Just becuase there is a directory and groups, doesnt take away from the fact that New Mombasa is Flooded with fanfics. They are all over the place.

I love fanfics, but they are dominating New Mombasa. So I say yes make a forum. It will make people who hate fan-fics happy and Will make the Fans of fan-fics even happyer.

I would love a thread but, I don't think the Mods would want to make one...

Sadly, you're right. I dont think the mods would make one either. I only posted this as an idea and to see what other people think about this.

I believe that there are some groups that have been started. But it would be wonderful if the authors themselves could team up and create a group for fan-fics where the authors were management and the readers were members. Membership could be set to open. that way, someone would easily join and jump into the reading.

This would allow all readers to find the fiction in one place and would be (IMO) a VERY popular group.

If such a group were founded and the fanfics were migrated off of the forums, I would consider and be in favor of a news article and/or sticky that would announce to members that community fanfics have a new and official home.

Perhaps the CF gurus could assist in suggesting the pros and cons of such an idea and how it could be best setup?

One of us could make it now.

u cant just up and make it.

There are some big names out there that you would need to talk to.

The 2 most Popular Being Sir_Brilliant and Mr Clark. They both have large fanbases and both already have fan-fic groups. They and other authors would have to meet in IRC or AIM or LIVE to disscuss it.

One of us could make it now.

Leadership, involvement and an understanding of the dynamics of how groups function are keys to such an idea being a success.

If a mature fanfic author (or wannabe editor) were to found such a group, they would have to be clear that it is not for the promotion of just a single author or story, but rather for the community of authors and their readers.

Using the ranks to allow new authors to join and post, readers to read, and trusted authors to administer the group would be part of setting up such a group.

I think that some thought and planning (as well as getting author volunteers) would be important.

Well I could not do it then. But I would join it.

I can do my best to create such a group. I have alot of time in my hands and I can keep an organize group.

I definitely think it'd be worthy CF discussion.

I believe a non-involved member (as in, one who is not a "big gun" in fanfiction), founding a fanfic "capital" of Bnet, would be the best solution, and then to perhaps have a pinned & locked thread in New Mombasa with directions to said Chapter.

I'd like to see a certain degree of equality in such a Group. Giving authors higher ranks based on the successfulness of their stories could prove to have a negative effect on newer writers. Maybe three separate roles such as "Author", "Experienced Author" and "Dedicated Author", increasing with success and frequency of writing, but with more or less the same privileges as one another would be more encouraging than discouraging for new people. The administration and moderation of the Chapter could then be dealt with by people who are deemed responsible enough to do so (as Bnet is run - perhaps the analagy of Theme Masters as "Dedicated Authors", members who have worked well, and Forum Ninjas as responsible members selected to help keep things under control is appropriate).

It would indeed be nice for readers to be given a separate role. If the default role was "reader", and then a custom resource/forum thread for authors to alert the administration to their presence was created, a good experience could be maintained for all.

Those are just my views. I'm partial to a bit of fanfic reading/writing myself, I'm happy to help out if my support is needed. I'll bring it up in Chapter Founders and see if there are any different perspectives.

My friend, you would not tell with ſuch high zeſt

I would be willing to start up such a chapter if it were asked of me. Whilst it's been a fair while since I've actually written anything [still - check out my stuff over at fanfic.net under my Walshicus account] I have been doing a lot of moderating for various chapters these days. It might be a good idea for a chapter like such to have a supremo who doesn't actually get too involved in the day to day content of the chapter, rather concentrating on maintaining the smooth operation of the place.

Actually, why don't you do it Psyched? After all, I got to found Theme Masters when that was a joint venture between us. I reckon you'd be more than suitable to get "The Writing Den" [good name?] up, running and successful before being able to turn control over to those it serves.

Psyched or Sir Frag. (or both)would be great to administer the group. Psyched has a Thread up in the Chapter Founders already for this discussion.
