I was playing the level on legendary this past week with Sputnik and Catch active and found a way to keep almost all of the rooftop Jackal snipers from spawning while completing the whole portion of the battle to the point where you go for the next Pelican LZ.

I decided to keep my Marines alive as long as possible this time, and the only way to do that is to keep them out of the battle, I blocked the path out of the crash site with a container that I rolled over to the bottom of the ramp down into the courtyard and then got up on the roof by jumping from the light fixture. This allowed me to pick off the grunts and jackals with my BR from afar and then go down and take out the elites from medium distance with the BR PP combo. I was having all of the fun to myself when I realized that I was not getting shot at by any jackal snipers. I managed to keep the marines bottled up the entire time, all the way through the Hunter battle at the doorway and no more than 1 ever appeared, and he was the first on that spawns. I fought almost the entire battle without ever going more than 10 seconds walk away from the blocked marines. The Phantom dropped its covies, the Buggers came and were dispatched, and the Hunter battle ensued, all without more than that 1 JS showing his ugly beak! I have a feeling that doing the battle this way kept the AI from spawning all of the other snipers cause they never showed up to the party!

Good one, bottling up the Marines is how I was able to get my 18 Marines. You can also keep the Marines that arrive on the Pelican safe by shoving the two big boxes in their way, just before sniper alley. I wonder if you can bypass the sniper Jackals in sniper alley this way?

Also, if you block the hallway that leads out of Hotel Zanzibar you'll save several more Marines. Those plus you have the two invincibles plus four more Marines in two more Hogs before you get to the tunnel.

Then two more Marine in a Hog just inside the tunnel, 3 marines at the Scarab spawn and two more in the last Hog that appears just after the Scarab spawn.

All Legendary Marines and they kick booty as long as you don't let them drive.

Jiminy, guys. Am trying to read though all your text. Maybe I'm too drunk to make sense of it, but, if I read right, there's an easy way to skip Sniper Alley. Just dispatch of the Hunters somehow, and go through their doorway. There's a flaming pile; jump up against the left hand wall a few times, and you'll be above the mess. Keep going (mainly left) and you'll initiate the Hotel Zanzibar scene. I always exchange with Johnson to make sure I have the sniper. Hit the silver Elite a few times and it's melee time on his little buddies. Sorry if I'm presuming or sounding jerky.

Actually, womyfts like to fight everyone (street level) on Legendary. He knows you can bypass all fighting if you go on the roofs.

He was just pointing out that those roof snipers in the first map will not appear if you save the first marines by hiding them. It's not a strategy (except if you want to do all the fighting but you don't want to fight the Jackals).

It was just something he noticed while doing a Legendary run. Then I asked if that might be true for sniper alley then I ranted on about saving Marines in general.

Non Nobis Nascimur - We are not born for ourselves.

You could just jump on top of the Pelican Johnson get's into, go on the rooftops, skip the alley, then get down just before that Warthog section. It's what I used to do. :/

Far more sober nestegg: Ha-so. Cool find. As much time as I've logged on the game, was not aware of that. (Should expect this kind of thing from you guys.) I just got so sick of dealing with the L4D aspect of Sniper Alley, the bypass became standard. I tried some hopping onto Johnson's Pelican, but, it always ended badly.
