Author's Note: Please go easy on me--I'm still young, well within my teens, and I'm a novice writier. I'm not writing this with the expectation of getting several fans, but mostly for fun and support. Thank you.

Prologue

Master Chief Spartan-117 woke to the calculated voice of the artifial intelligence known as Cortana.

"Spartan! Wake up!" the familiar voice snapped. And right on time, the Spartan did just that--the cryo tube opened with a hiss and the Master Chief pulled himself out of it, surprised, but not shocked, that he was out of the zero-G environment.

Sparingly, the Spartan willed his mouth to work. "Cortana?" he asked in that low, dry voice of his. "How long was I--"

"About thirty minutes!" she cut him off, already knowing his question. Forward Unto Dawn shook violently and the Spartan had to grasp the sides of the cryo tube so he wouldn't fall back in. "The ship--it's accelerating! Fast!" Her voice was urgent and to the point. "We're being pulled into an atmosphere. I'd say we've got about"--the AI did some quick calculating--"three minutes until impact."

Not wanting to waste any precious time, the Chief stood more fully, looking down at the holopad of which Cortana's AI model resided. "Any pods?" he questioned.

The AI shook her head, hands on hips. "No. Those were with the other half of the ship."

"Pelicans?"

"Also with the other half."

With slight difficulty, the Spartan yanked Cortana's AI Core and plugged it into the back of his helmet, making his way out of the ship's cryo bay slowly, trying not to sprawl onto the floor giving the ship's rocking habit. Down the hallway just outside, he could see clouds and a blue sky, the Dawn skimming by the skyline fast.

"How much time?" the Chief questioned.

"About a minute," Cortana answered, slight dismay in her crystal-clear voice. "Any ideas?" The Chief literally had to crawl his way to the edge of the ship where it had been cut in half, bracing himself onto the wall and looking down. As far as the Spartan could see, the "planet" was littered with tall, difficult looking buildings--the same type of Cunstructs the Master Chief had seen on the Halo rings.

"Just the one," replied the Spartan, bracing himself as they looked down. He figured they had about thirty seconds, giving the speed the ground was rushing up to meet them. Cortana sighed audibly through his helmet's speakers, already knowing what he was going to do--jump.

The Spartan took a sharp breath, shifting his legs beneath him and, without a moment more of hesitation, jumped. Almost immediately into the freefall, a Sentinel's blue eye appeared right in front of the Master Chief's helmet, staring into him and apparently observing the Reclaimer.

Great, John thought. Something to break my fall. The Spartan reached out ofr the familiar construct, grabbing the metallic droid by one of its "arms". The Sentinel let out a mechanical shriek, trying to pull away--but the force of gravity, and the weight of the Spartan's MJOLNIR armor, got the better of it. The Chief's speed dropped significantly, but it wasn't enough--as he looked down, he noticed silver-colored building rushing up to greet him.

Bracing himself, the chief slammed into the hard metal, tearing through it and crashing through several floors, mysterious eyes watching him in shock and awe from within as he tore through multiple stories of the complicated structure. Finally, the Chief came to the bottom floor, where he landed hard and admitted an impact crater, along with a small explosion originated by the unfortunate Sentinel that had been forced to go down with him. Blinking several times and spitting the taste of copper out of his mouth, the Master Chief lost concsiousness just in time to see three tall, armored figures standing above him.

How'd you find me?

I made a story with the same title and basic concept a while ago and I'm still writing more chapters. Uh-oh. Good work on the story BTW.

No, writing projects go here because it's a form of art. The Bungie Universe forum is for discussing the Halo/Marathon (etc) universes.
