Subject: Bleed through fix?

The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

This has been an issue with my game for awhile now. On the 360 while playing single player campaign there are certain times when a bleed through will occur of graphics. An example is, while exploring the ruins of delta halo I get a weird after image of a what looks like the elite heretic from the previous level that just stays on my screen. Different parts of the campaign involve different images. Doing a restart from last checkpoint solves the problem, but not for long. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a fix? As it does take away from the atmosphere of the campaign.

If you're talking about what I think you are, then I have no idea how to fix it. I was stuck with one on my screen for the whole 2 weeks of being part of the final few.

is it a semi-transparent grey colour, if so I don't think it is fixable.

Like Joe said, it happens in MP too. There's no fix, we usually call it the 'shadow effect'. Sometimes a major loadpoint will get rid of it but mostly you have to eject and start over or kill yourself in CMP to revert back to another save.

Yeah, probably most but when it happens to me it's usually when I'm filming and that can be aggravating. I paid top dollar when the 360 came out so I expected better but I also held hope for several years that MS would fix it somehow. Idk, I use my original box for most H2 tricks just because of the emulator problem.

I agree with BOB570, although I add reason to my reason. (Pardon the pun) Basically when I notice this, (which occurs almost always on The Great Journey for me, I state to anyone in proximity to me that it is merely a glitch in the game Bungie's subconscious clearly added into Halo 2 as a effect where the Arbiter is going stir crazy and he begins seeing strong images he cannot shake off. (Basically I explain that this is meant to be there to people just to make sense of it.) Weather this is true or not, the world may never know. -Cmdrscott

It's a problem with the 360 Original XBox emulator rendering planar fog, hence anything in the fog is ghosted onto the screen, much like a plasma screen burn from the first generations of plasma TVs.

This is why only maps with planar fog are affected (High Charity settings, Backwash) however the images remain on the screen until you reset the emulator.

Is there by any chance a way to fix the emulator appropriately, Ghost Unknown?

Idk about planar fog, I do know Outskirts, Metropolis, Uprising and Great Jouney give me shadows a lot. There's no mistaking it when it happens.

There only way to get rid of it forever is to play Halo 2 on the original Xbox.

I used to always get this on the level, Gravemind (among others,) but since I switched from a TV to a computer monitor it no longer occurs.

I've only had this happen in campaign, but it will go away when a new map section/BSP is loaded, or you can quit and start from the saved checkpoint as mentioned above.

I've never had the images stay on the screen once I leave the particular level zone, or the level all together.

Bungie sucks at backwards compatibility.

Bungie didn't design Halo 2 with the 360 in mind, since it didn't even exist.

Most of the problems are due to the emulator on the 360, and with an emulator you can never get top performance.

Plus, Bungie had nothing to do with the emulator.

AS much as you are right may very wall be as much as you are wrong. First off time and space is relative, and theorists theorized that alternate universes as well as time travel and alternate dimensions can and do exist, however you may rest assured, that is not my basis for argument. I simple would like to point out that the Xbox 360's technology has been around since the original Xbox, just not configured in such manner. In essence, the hardware H2 was designed for is not far off from the 360's, thus the key is not in the game for compatibility, but through a reconfiguration within the X360 itself.

I agree.

Perhaps something more could have been done with the emulator. But, I don't expect any more development on original Xbox game support, now, since Microsoft has already canceled Live support, and seem to have the intention of eliminating support for original Xbox games altogether...

You don't stand a chance against m-AAAAHHHHHH!!!!

I hate this damn thing so much! Me and my sister are re-playing through all the HALOs (minus Wars) to make sure we're fresh for Reach. However, the level after the cutscene when Gravemind teleports you aboard High Charity is virtually unplayable for me, as I can't see enemies until they're shooting at me. Then, levels take even longer, since my sister isn't the greatest FPS player on the planet (or even in the family...)

Same here. It's like this for the entire level, or it's like this half way. Can this problem be fixed by buying a new disc?

  • 08.15.2010 8:36 PM PDT

Signatures are for squares.

It happens to me on every single map other than Cairo Station.

I thought I was the only one having this issue, so I went out and bought another Halo 2, since my old one was almost 6 years old. Turns out the issue is still happening just as much.

This filthy glitch has ruined Halo 2 for me.

There is one fix without turning your Xbox 360 off, But its only temporary (The bleed through effect can happen again sometime)

What you do is load up a game on Lockout and just jump off the map. It gets rid of it without turning your xbox off but it will most likely happen again later.

  • 08.16.2010 1:21 PM PDT

Yeah, it happens to me to, at first I thought it was my copy but I found out that it was some sort of glitch. Anyway its quite annoying mut you get used to it. - Well I do.
