Because so many people have posted and asked about help with their multiplayer problems of Halo, only to have some idiot flame them and call them a n00b or not have their question answered at all, I've decided to create a guide of known multiplayer issues for Halo PC, CE, and trial. Im just going to write the answers that aren't covered in the stickies. Also, don't expect me to write anything about how to enable the console because that’s already written in a sticky, you just have to look.
Halo PC problems:
I can only see a few servers and only around thirty players in Halo PC
The most simple problem here is that you may have some filters on. Go into filters and turn everything off. Also make sure that you haven't selected any of the sorting categories at the top like to show only password servers or custom content games.
The more severe and more likely problem is this: anyone that has bought and installed/re-installed Halo(Not CE or trial, just the full version) on their computer since the last update of 1.07 will encounter the problem of only seeing around thirty players and five servers. To fix it: find a good website or use Google a few times and search for each update from 1.04. Download each update in order from 1.04 to 1.07. Don't download them all together if you find a bundle, because you absolutely must download each one separately and IN ORDER! Than, simply restart your computer open Halo and you will see around three hundred servers and two thousand players.
Sometimes when I play Halo either in the campaign or online, my computer freezes and Halo minimizes. A white box shows up and a message saying: "Gathering Exception Data" appears
This means a Halo file is corrupted or has been deleted. Let the little box do its work and sometimes if you're lucky, Halo will restore and you can continue. But if your computer freezes or the box goes away and a message stating that Halo has encountered an error appears, than you'll have to fix it yourself. A simple re-install may work but if not than try and pay attention to why the box appeared. If it repeatedly happens at one specific part like in a cut-scene or every time something explodes than you've narrowed your search. What you have to do is find the corrupted file and repair it. For example, if it happens during a cut-scene than repair the "animations" folder.
Whenever I create a server, people say they can't see it
Follow the first tip to make sure you didn't create the server in this section. If you can join games properly than that doesn't matter. Also if you are using a router or if you have a firewall setup you have to disable it for Halo by click Start, and then clicking Control Panel. Open the Security Center and than you firewall. Click the Exceptions tab, than Add Program and browse to find the Halo folder labeled: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe. Click okay twice.
I can't connect Halo over my LAN, but I know my routers working
Open your LAN settings and disable port 2302 and port 2303.
I can’t see the writing text
Open the Halo folder and scroll down until you see msxmlenu. Open it and either install it or repair it.
All the Master Chief’s are just gray, they don’t have any color and I want color!
Download a driver to see better color by clicking here. And I have to give thanks to vectorracer for that one.
Halo Custom Edition.
I can’t play or see any custom maps
You have to download and place the maps in the right folder to play them or to even see them.
How to I make the maps work?
You must download or have WinRAR installed to use them. When you download them, open them in WinRAR and double left click the maps. WinRAR will extract them and than you must place them in the Custom Edition maps folder labeled: C:/ProgramFiles/MicrosoftGames/HaloCustomEdition/maps.exe.
Halo Trial.
I can’t do anything in trial, like play all the maps plus the six extra maps not included on the Xbox version, choose up to five different game types, kill through ten missions across seven different areas, have host powers, or drive in four amazing vehicles.
This is where you buy Halo PC... For only twenty dollars, it could be yours
