Subject: New Mod tool idea- critisism welcomed

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Well, the title tells you a lot, but now for the tool itself- a "flush thread" option. The name pretty much speaks for itself. It would flush all of the replies out of a thread, except the original post. I can forsee this helping in many ways. For instance- lets say a thread, the Halo Movie Thread, for instance, got too big. The Mods, instead of deleting the entire thread, could just inform the thread creator that he has 48 hours to compile all of the information from the thread that he thinks should be kept so he can edit it into the first post once the thread has been flushed. Also, if a good-hearted thread was hijacked and turned into spam or a flame fest, a mod could flush it. There could also be a little bar above a thread saying how many times it has been flushed. Any opinions? Is it a good idea, bad idea, waste of server... whatever it is that having too much information wastes on a server?

Not a bad idea.

Yeah, I can imagine this becoming useful when having to move a thread to another forum.
I personally think its could be useful for the mods.

Well, I think it would be a good idea for smaller threads, but with larger ones, there might be so many posts in there worth keeping that it will take hours to sift throught the entire thread. Otherwise, I think it's a good idea.

I disagree. If the thread originator pays attention to his thread, he would know all the large issues. And if he forgets one or two of them I'm sure other people that use the thread will tell him what they were.

I agree with your idea, but there's a matter that must be thought about first.

You said that the "Flush" feature would help if a topic got to big or became a flame fest. But after a topic has been flushed out and cleaned, what's stopping the posters from coming back and starting another flame war? Basically, I think most topics that have alot of flames in them, shouldnt be around at all. But thats just what I think.

Otherwise, good idea.

You do have a good idea there, but instead of "flushing" all the Replies out of a Thread, I think it would be better to have a little check box above the Post. That way if a spammer attacks a thread, instead of deleted the entire thread he could easily check the spammers post and then only delete them. Just like your PM box.

What about the posts that actually have quality?

Are the Mods going to have to go to a system like its a email? Checking everything they want to delete, and then deleting it. I mean it'd be nice if it were eventually like that, but its not. It will most likely not be like that for a long time.

It seems a little messy with the Flushing in all, but overall a good ideal!

If some of the posts have quality then wouldn't it be better to just blacklist the people that are messing it up? Chances are that people who post quality posts will stay away from senseless flaming and instead get the attention of a mod.

That's why they have the original poster save all important info.

Egotistical ass.

Just kidding. Actually, your idea is one of the better ones I've heard lately.

I was only saying thanks.

Hehehe. Why thank you too. I was expecting this idea sto slowly slip to the next page, but I'm hoping someone of higher status then us feeble members reads this. Then I can leave my mark on Bungie forever. I want to have a legacy once i leave :P

IMO, this isn't very necessary at the moment. If a thread is turning into a flame-fest, or anything like that, the thread-creator should ask a moderator to lock/delete it, tell who is responsible, and then he/she could just repost the thread again.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea - I'm just saying that it's not the most important thing to implent into the system, currently.

Moving a thread this will be very useful. This way if it was in the wrong forum, and moved you wont get those post that say this is in the wrong forum when it was moved to the right one. confusing but i know what i mean.

Well thank you all for advice, and I appreciate the critisism BlackEye. I want more people pointing out flaws then telling me that it was a good idea, however nice the compliments might be.

That is a very good point. Sorta like an auto-flush would be perfect in that situation. In the other situations, namely when there's a flame war or a huge thread, I'd rather keep the threads there as relics and lock them. A flame-war should be locked with a mod note, and when there's a huge thread, the mods should PM the creator and tell them to create a new one (or they will themselves, as was the case with the ILB thread - that worked out fine).

So, I think an auto-flush sounds like a good idea, but as for being a mod tool, it wouldn't get used very often. Great idea, though!

I don't agree. There might be a situation that arises when they don't want to flush the moved topic. I think that it would be better off not being an auto tool. But, then again, I would be happy to see this implemented at all. And keep the ideas flowing! It makes everyone think creatively if they can see what other peoples trains of thought are. Just throw in anything you can come up with- mabye someone else can see something in your idea that you don't, or you might see something they don't.

This is a good idea, but it isnt exactly needed throughout the community. How many times would a mod end up using this feature? Probably not a lot, unless they are visiting Zanzibar, then it might come in handy. But if a topic is creating controversy and flame wars, then the topic as a whole should be gone. Thats just my opinion.

And I value it. Hmm. It would make me feel better if I could get a mod to come and post himself. Then I could see if the very people using this feature think that it would help.

I only go into Zanzibar like once a day. The only button I would be using is Delete, Delete, delete, delete....
