That is truely sad... people who shoot other people like that deserve to be swept away by the rising waters.

Sadly, the situation has turned into a sort of anarchy. I agree that punishment should definately come to those who commit crimes such as this, but I have to sympathize in some cases. Though I've never been through a hurricane of this magnitude, I am sure that panic has to be setting in by now. Some of these looters are likely doing it to sustain their families, or to get supplies that are vital to them. Yes, the Red Cross is helping, but they can only do so much - thousands of people need aid. That is why it is important that we help in any way possible.

And as for the comment about New Orleans being underwater - I don't think that it was as submerged when the French built it. That's not important though: this is still a serious disaster, and to see it disregarded by some people is just sickening to me (I'm not saying you did that). No place in the world is truly safe, this should be treated with the same seriousness as a tsunami in India, or an earthquake in the Middle East.

i really dont mean to be rude but i would like to discuss this...

what did u think would happen when u built a city i think about 6 feet under sea level? something was going to happen

Dude, Cobra Campkin, what a freakin' idiot you are. Drive your ass down here to Louisiana, look at the homeless, the dead bodies floating around, the people who have lost their entire lives and say that mess. You have no soul. What a -blam!-.

Keep comments like that to yourself from now on.

I live in Conyers, Georgia and I consider myself blessed because the hurricane went RIGHT over us. But yeah, if you or a loved one live in Louisiana or anywhere within the range of where the hurricane hit I just want you all to know that my thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you. And don't worry, God will get you all through this catastrophic situation! I'm not sure what I can do right now but I think for right now, this is the best I can do. God bless you all, and may God continue to bless this wonderful nation whom he has given us!

Well - personally I'm from Canada - but I went to Louisiana State University for 2 years - living in Baton Rouge.

I know the LSU Tiger football team is going to the shelters to help clean up and repair the buildings roofs and such. And my friends in the LSU tiger band have started to raise money for the families of the people from New Orleans.

I was just in the Big Easy not even 2 months ago - it's painful to hear about it take such a blow. But if I know the people of the great states of the South East - and definatly the people of New Orleans - they'll make everything great again, even after this tragedy.

Keep on working hard, pray hard and be strong - everyone's coming to help.

You know what pisses me off about this storm? During times of extreme death and destruction elsewhere in the world, the US volunteers give millions of dollars and several thousand people give up their lives to help out those in need. Where is the rest of the world when we need them?!?!?!?!

We are having a emergency blood drive at AFLAC where i work and they are really picking up with contributions to the relief effort. If you live in Alabama and Georgia you can donate your time to serve all the people that had to evacuate LA and MI and lower AL. we are 8 hours away and we have about 400 people here from new orleans. I came to bungie today to see if anybody was going to be talking about this and I am proud to see they care. Good companies go along way in this world. Keep up the good work bungie.

Just donated 100.00. I wish it could be more, but I cannot at this time.

Best wishes to all those who have had friends, family, & loved ones effected by this.

Come on Halo fans. You know you have a few bucks saved up for xbox 360. So instead of buying that extra controller or game, kick down a few dollars!!!

Wow. That is a coment you just keep to yourself. I am sure the donation will be appreciated by the people who need it. I personally donate about 100 dollars a year to various things and gave 50 to the tsunami fund. I agree with you they should have been more prepared and that is something they will have to look at in the future after the failures of the water pumps and levees but now is not the time. Only support should be going down their. To the cambin cupkem guy or whatever his name is on page two. forgot to hit quote.

On another note I kind of agree with Cobra. I mean in this storm the death toll probably won't be over 600. The tsunami death toll was well over 50,000 if I can remember right. How many of you went out and donated then? Probably not all of you because well, it didn't affect you did it?

While it is true that the tsunami's death toll was extremely high, any loss of life should be treated with the same urgency. Counts in LA alone may reach into the thousands. It's a fact that the US is generally very strong in foreign aid, whenever necessary. I know for sure that many people in my city donated blood, and supplies for those affected in Sri Lanka and India. I can only hope that other countries will do so in reverse (if possible). And as for CNN: they have been giving water, and donating food in Biloxi and Gulfport (probably in NO, too). It's more than some people have done...

Where is the US when the world really needs it?

While it's tragic what happened at New Orleans, here in Guadalajara (Mexico) some of the outer sectors suffer just as much every summer. Not in such magnitude, but in a similar way. Things like Katrina happen once in several lifetimes, yet everytime there is a big rainstorm here you always hear later in the news that 10-15 people were lost, killed, or left homeless.

First of all the mayor of New Orleans says the death toll in that city alone may be in the thousands! And that is just in one city, the hurricane devastated several states! Also many many Americans (including myself) donated lots of their money, time and effort to help the tsunami victims. America gave more money than any other country not just because we could but because we wanted to. Do not assume you are the only one here who donated.

Yes, and it does happen. Once, twice, ten times a year. Rain floods the nearby swamps and bayou's and they would flood NO. That's why the levees were built. When they were built, we were looking for an immediate solution for a recurring problem, flooding. Of course there was the risk of a hurricane, but it would cost too much money to build a levee and destroy it everytime a hurricane would come. Also, thank you all for donating, you may not know how much this means to everyone here in La. .It is very shocking to see such a large city such as NO to be almost completely submerged in water. No food, electricity, water, bathrooms, clothes, toys....many more things, thousands wait for endless days in the humid louisiana weather for buses, food, water, anything to relieve this pain.

Sewege, dead bodies, wild animals, looters are also many problems facing stranded people and rescue workers. It could take several weeks to drain NO of flood waters, months to bring in new power lines and put them up, years to clean up the debris and rebuild one of the greatest cities in the south. The effects will last for decades and will be remembered for centuries as the costliest hurricane in US history and maybe the worst natural disaster since the 1908 earthquake. I know this is a long post but this needs to be said. New Orleans, one of the greatest cities in the world, will never be the same. Structuraly, its falling apart. Financially, its ruined. Morally, its in chaos. Please, i know that many of you cannot send that much money, but please try to convince friends and family. This hurricane, believe it or not, affects the US as a whole. The biggest port in the south that manages oil from south america is now just a mess.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your help and continuing concern of those immediately affected by Katrina.

I lived in Baton Rouge for over eight years, and worked in New Orleans for a couple of years. It is depressing to see the ruins of a city I once frequented so much. Even though they will never be able to restore that area down there, I hope the gulf coast will be able to be rebuilt, and that the people will be able to find places to live in the mean time.

If it was not for my poor health I would be down there lending a hand, however I will be donating money to the Red Cross and strongly encouraging other members of my family to do the same. Which I am sure they will. Especially now that I have the website and phone# right here! Thanks Bungie and rise Bungie Underground Army!

Everytime I see a video of looting, theres always punks or gangsters with "bling" and you know, gangster crap. Ive seen about 10 videos, and there hasnt been a normal person looting in them. Right now on fox news theyre saying that theyre gangs running around with guns tonight which also have stolen guns, and looting people. The normal people are the ones who are suffering and have no food or water.

Btw, its like war of the worlds down there, you know when they drive the car in the streets and people swarm over them and punch the windows, its crazy.

At 18 years old, I just graduated high school and started college in my home town. Many of my friends left home to start school at another university. One in particular recieved a full scholarship at Tulane university in New Orleans. Two days before Katrina hit, we had a gathering to wish her good luck at school. You know, the usual going away party. Two days later, when she was supposed to start school, news of the extent of Katrinas damage started to spread, and we feared the worst.

Miraculously, she and her friend left town as soon as she got there along with 1 million other people who evacuated. Now that New Orleans has officially been abandoned by the government and buisnesses, and Martial law is in effect, there is no chance of school resuming in the near future.

The real point of me telling you this is that instead of comming home and staying with her parents and friends and starting college here, she has decided to join in the relief effort full time in and around New Orleans where the help is most needed. I commend her for her selfless act of kindness, and good-will, and I hope that we as a community can follow the examples of people like her and unite when the cause is as justified as this. Even if we only do a very small part each, imagine what we can do as a community.

Oh jeez. I didn't know until reading this that people are actually shooting rescuers. That is horrible. New Orleans was such a great city when i visited it just a few months ago, but now its just a hellhole. God be with all the innocent victims of Katrina living there without food, in fear of getting robbed or shot. For those of you who can't donate money or assist in any way there is something you can do. Praying for those people is the best thing you could do in a situation like this. If you have family or friends there, send me a message or email me at gruntythirst77@hotmail.com about them and i will pray for them and ask my church to do the same.
