Remember Reach!

Good job! I'll try to help out if I can. I was on a church mission trip in Biloxi a few years back, we helped a poor family repaint the outside of their house so it looked nice. We also worked in one of the soup kitchens. That was the Back Bay mission, which is probably flattned now along with the house and soup kitchen that we worked on and at. If I can find the money I'll donate to the Red Cross. Wish I could do more then just donate money, I'm to far away to do anything else though *tear.*

I have decided that I can get an Xbox 360 or a Revolution any time so I have decided to give my Console savings to this cause ($400). I will probably just worl a little harder but I have no doubt in my mind that this is going to a better cause.

why? why? these people just had their lives swept away in torrents of rain and wind they have nowhere to go and nothing to return to. Do you have no heart? the least we can do is help a little.

God, why? I'm tired of all these frickin potshots being taken at America! I ask the same question: do you have no heart? I was going to write a whole long rant at you American haters, but I decided not to; this isn't the place, nor the time.

As for things you can do, prayer power is the most effective thing. If you have the money or food, or you in person can go help out, I strongly erge you to do so, but don't forget to pray.

I was thinking that comunities should hold Halo tourneys for donations. Its been done in the past for disasters, so why not now? If any one in the Sumter, SC area thinks it is a good idea give me a pm.

My thoughts and prayers are for the people and rescue workers in NO.

hey bungie im a hardcore kid gamer who works for money to support his gameing. i was about to by a game and put a down payment down for the 360 when the news of the hurricane came out. i walked into the store today and couldnt bring myself to pay 100 dollers for gameing when there are people in the disaster zone that would pay twice that for running water or food. so i went home and donated the $100 to the redcross and i am hopeing many other gamers will do the same. gamers, lets prove to the world we can help.

God bless america and her power to heal,
Brian Collins

I've already donated money but wow guys, Bungie officially rocks this world.

I just hope that they don't try and rebuild much there because that is just another disaster waiting to happen.

Thanksto everybody for your help. I Live in St. Bernard parish (county) just to the southeast of N.O. and my ENTIRE parish is under about 8-12 ft of water. I have evacuated to houston tx and am using my brother's laptop right now. I cannot express how grateful I and the people of my community are for your donations and support. I would like to clear up one or two things.

the looting: Crackheads who are too stupid to leave. 'Nuff said.
"Why live there when you know something like this could happen" : It's a risk we all take by all living there and we're all well aware of it. As far as being prepared for it goes - We have been prepared for it for so many years, however, the levee system that has broken and is still flooding the city was engineered to hold back a cat. 3 or a weak 4. It is next to impossible to fight off a Cat. 5. It's worse than "worst case" that reporters and news agencies have talked about for years.

A little about my story: Myself, my parents, and my brother are ok in a hotel room in houston tx. My other brother is with the Air National Guard and has been helping refugees in the Louisiana Superdome since Sunday. He is ok.

I have not been able to get in contact with a good number of my friends. I think they all left but the phone service is a complete mess. I have a hard time calling my dad's phone and he's downsatirs in the hotel right now. As far as being worried about friends, there is only one. I don't know if he stayed and if he didn't, where he was planning to go wasn't that far away. But I'm sure all my friends are ok and it will be a matter of time before I see them again.

I am going home to nothing. My home is completely underwater. My car has probably floated down the river. it had liability only insurance (no flood insurance). My work is under more water than my house. I am planning to go work at the location we have in baton rouge LA but nothing is certain yet. I am going home to nothing!!!

Once again I would like to say thanks for everybody's support and donations. My entire community and all of the gulf coast needs your help right now.

p.s. the hotel I'm staying at sucks because the tv's have coax connections and i have rca's on my box with me. I'll probably go to the mall and get some adapter tomorrow.

I NEED MY HALO FIX

sitting here watching the news. i realize the place that made me what i am, is now a memory. i saw places that i used to hang out at just destroyed. New Orleans was and will always be my home. i live in milwaukee now and have for about 8 yrs, but it has never ever felt like home. just a place that im located at the moment. I cant explain how it feels to realize the thing i hold very dear to me is just gone. We can rebuild and get going with our lives again to some extent, but it will never be the same again. the beauty of the cities old buildings and the pace that everyday runs on is gone. I feel emotinally homeless. like i lost the tie to what made me. its very hard to watch this all and be up here. i will be going down at some point to help my mother and father, and any other family that i can.
i cant help feeling that a chapter is closing on my life and thousands of others. the culture, the music, the food, the care-free attititude of the people there is something that will be hard to regain. but i think we can do it.

If you start asking, "Why would you build under sea level? you have to take a look at many places that are at some natural disaster risk. I'll only mention a few, but there is hundreds more. San Diego, CA: earthquakes (horrible one happened just before we moved there in 91 (I was only two)); Seattle, WA: Volcano (remember Mt. Saint Helens? Theres another active volcano even closer to Seattle); anywhere in "Tornado Ally": Tornados, self explanitory; anywhere near FL, GA, and LA: hurricanes. In fact, anywhere you go there is always some risk of a natural disaster, some places more than others. NO is just one of those places. It's like saying, "Why the frick would you build Seattle under a volcano?" Or better yet, "Why would you build Hawaii ON a volcano?" You have to know the risk and be willing to take it. NO can rebuild, it can be fixed, but theres allways that risk, and people are going to be willing to take it. Now why build it in the first place? I don't know. Why build New York where it is, why build Huston where it is, heck, why build Sumter where it is? There is a reason for everything, positive and negative, and it will change people, for good or bad.

Hail there fellow Halo Troops, i know and understand of the devistation that Hurricane Katrina has caused having experienced it first hand, also having experienced Hurricane Andrew back in 92 i guess you can say i have been though the 2 most recent costly hurricanes in history, but also being in the military i've also been deployed to Downtown Baghdad for a year, the anarchy that is taking place in New Orleans can be directly compared to what Baghdad was like when the war first started, I personally strongly dislike looters and feel that they should be delt with the way we delt with looters in Iraq, shoot to kill, it's disgusting how they can take advantage of people during a time like this, the only exception to that are those people out there who are jsut taking the things they need to sustain thier families like food, drinking water, daipers ect, (I'm pretty sure your not going to need 6 pairs of Nike's adn that plasma flatscreen tv at the moment) i would like to say that im proud of those of you who have come together during this dark time of dire need and done all you can to help those who have nothing left but the cloths on thier backs, we know not everyone can give alot but every little bit counts, currently my brother (Naols) and I are doing our parts by helping with the re-construction of the broken levy and rescueing people from thier roofs by boat, well thats about all i got, take care everyone and good luck in all your endevors,

Too true. Many cities were built in days when people knew little about their surroundings, some were built b/c of location (on the water), and others for economic purposes. That matters little though, no place is truly safe from nat. disasters.

To soundunit, I'm really sorry to hear about your "emotional" loss. I too have recently visited NO, on school trips and with friends/family. It's just shocking to see it in its current state. But we can rebuild! San Francisco in 1906, Andrew in 93 - all of these had a major effect, but the communities were able to rebuild (in some cases, better than before). NO is changed, but it is not gone! I think that in the future, it will still be one of the most prosperous and exciting cities in the US. Godspeed to you and any friends/relatives affected by Katrina.

I see there is a lot or questions about "What can I do" . while people may not be able to afford the Monetary side there is one way that is just as important, Give Blood there is always a shortage of that in any given situation, and right now it's Blood may be worth more than money for these people.
