I live in Baton Rouge, about 45 minutes north of New Orleans. We got some heavy winds but no flooding. A lot of my friends are still without power, I got power back Tuesday and just got cable back yesterday. I lost the roof to my car-port, but that's the extent of my damage. I have a lot of family in the New Orleans area that I still haven't heard from. My wife's grandmother and uncle in New Orleans has lost thier houses. Her uncle is a fire fighter in New Orleans, he's been giving us updates. It's really scary what's going on down there. I mean stuff that nobody is really thinking about like what happened to the zoo. New Orleans has the 5th largest zoo in the US, he said about 90% of the animals are dead. He was driving his boat to rescue somebody off of a roof and passed a floating zebra carcass. Another bit of craziness, as if the people down there didn't have enough to deal with, he rescued a guy in Metairie (suburbs of New Orleans), the guy told him to be careful and not get in the water because he saw sharks swimming around. SHARKS!! in the streets. It's unreal. Everybody here in Baton Rouge is just in a daze. All the grocery stores here are bare, almost no gas. I've heard reports that there's an extra 30,000 to 60,000 people in Baton Rouge and we don't have the supermarkets to keep up. My mother-in-law is now housing 6 extra people. We've had people with no power over none stop. One girl I work with says she's got 26 people staying with her. We've got numerous aunts, cousins and uncles from the Chalmette area (where the levee broke) that we haven't heard from. We don't know if they got out or not.
do they need blood because i would go donate but i haven't seen anything on the news saying there is a great need for blood?
Yes, they are need of blood very badly. They've turned the PMAC (LSU's basketball dome) into a hospital for critical patients and they need all kinds of med. supplies, including blood.
A good site to find out how to help out is http://www.dinorizzo.com That's our pastors blog. Healing Place Church is working with the red cross as a collection site. If you want to know what they need check out there or just think about what you need in your daily routine....remember, these people lost everything; bathroom supplies like toothbrushes, towels, soap. Kitchen stuff, pots, pans, cups. Of course food and water or just money.
Thanks so much Bungie and the bungie community, it was a nice suprise to see this on the front page of the site. Keep up the good work. Oh, and it would ease my pain a little if you could add a mlg playlist :)
