Is it possible...can the leverage of the sheer numbers of devoted halo fans create a collective donation so large that Bungie, Microsoft and the gamers themselves would have a positively definite voice? Could our collaboration of efforts create a tremendous donation?? How about this: Bungie - Is it possible to create some sort of bonus download that the Xbox live subscriber could purchase for a dollar? Take that dollar or a greater percentage of it and pool a gigantic fund. This might be too simple and there is a lot behind making such an idea as this materialize. However, the size of our community, the significance of Bungie, the backing of Microsoft and most importantly, the people who need our help are all serious reasons to make this idea an effort.

I think that is an excellent idea many people (not including myself) do not have credit cards handy to donate over the internet or sometimes just need that little extra shove to donate. I believe a charitable donation system over Xbox Live is by far one of the best ideas I have ever read on these forums. After I have my first semseter of school payed for I plan on making a donation because I cannopt even imagine how horrible it must be down there. However I will not dwell on the negative or repeat what has already been said instead I hope that your idea is considered and will surely donate through traditional means if your avenue does not open.

I changed my avatar on Xbox live to the Red Lantern. (For some reason the 7th column symbol doesn't appear to be toggled off though) It's really all I can do right now.

update from http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/
MAD PROPS SHOULD GO OUT TO THESE GUYS FOR DOING WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!!!!!

The City is ON FIRE
Teams Alpha and Bravo finished the medium range recon and there are 3 separate locations on fire. We have pictures coming shortly.

During the recon, I spoke to some Federal Marshalls and NOPD. Morale is LOW. Very low. They're not seeing the military presence they say they were promised. I told those guys they can't possibly imagine how much we (the world) appreciate their dedication. I asked what civil rights the citizens have and the US Marshalls looked at me like I just fell off the turnip truck and chuckled. I asked if citizens can have guns for protection and he said if someone thinks he needs a gun, he should have already evacuated. He also said they are setting the city on fire.

The NOPD wants to know where "the two active duty brigades" were that he says they were told were supposed to arrive today. When I asked him what he would want to tell the world, he said Everyone keeps talking about the military presence in the city, and then asked me," Do you see any military around here" in dusgust.

We reconned our roof also, to get a better view of the city and took... I hesitate to call them "amazing" pictures. My city... it has been punched in the face and is on the canvas being counted out.

And yes, that's smoke you see out of the windows. The city is under a haze from the fires. Smoke and ash are floating miles away from the fires.

For those of you who asked the question, what can I do? It seems the best thing you can do is send money. This is from the Red Cross WEB site:

10 Reasons Why Donating Cash is Best

1. Cash provides the quickest possible relief and takes virtually no time to arrive at the disaster area.

2. Cash donations allow relief agencies to purchase exactly what is urgently needed.

3. Supplies such as new clothing, essential items and food, even in famine situations, are nearly always available for purchase somewhere near the disaster area.

4. Local purchases help stimulate the economy, provide jobs and help bring about a faster recovery.

5. A U.S. dollar goes farther and buys much more in a developing country.

6. Many relief agencies issue vouchers that allow victims to purchase the clothing they need in the correct size to suit their taste. Psychologically, even this small decision helps disaster victims start taking control over their lives.

7. Cash can be used to purchase necessities that are not easily donated: non-household items such as building materials, heavy equipment or water purification systems.

8. Cash donations incur no transportation costs and require no warehouse space. Non-essential goods can divert important resources needed to provide emergency services, particularly in areas where transportation systems, roads and infrastructure are damaged.

9. For relief organizations with limited resources, cash donations are easier to manage than donated goods. The financial and labor costs of receiving, sorting, and ensuring the quality and cleanliness of food, clothing and other goods donated by individual households are very high.

10. Cash helps restore the self-reliance of those affected by helping them participate in their own recovery. Most disaster relief assistance and rebuilding efforts come from within the affected country.

I like the idea of the $1 download, but I have two problems with it:

#1 - screw downloadable content, just send money (of any quantity) Bungie, should have NO problem setting something up on Ebay. Use one of the charity things there, and go for it.. just sell a "MasterChief JPG" (Frankie-style) with an unlimited quantity, for a buck a piece.

You could buy as many as you want, and you'd get an automated email that gave you a link to a masterchief image. It'd all be the same image, but you'd be buying the ability to view it.

It'd be our way of doing something as part of the Halo community.

#2- Why not donate without worrying whether anyone even knows you're a part of the halo community. Donate blood, and/or money, to the red cross. They'll take credit cards, checks, money orders, etc.

Please.. can anyone send them Busses & Gas? Get the word out.. it's what they need most right now. It doesn't matter how far away you are, contact your local greyhound, govenor, etc. Don't think about it.. MOVE !!! What would Sgt. Johnson say?

You are not a mistake; God has never said "oops." Seek Him and you will find Him. Do not seek Him, and you will not find Him. He respectfully leaves the choice up to you.

Hoo-ah. But remember - Britain and America are on the same side here - it's the morons that are against us, and they can claim no single country, they are EVERYWHERE, believe me.

But let's not forget - it's people like this that should be convinced by our actions here and now that the opinions they presently hold are actually not true.
Don't dwell on the negative and make this a "flame the moron" thread. This is much bigger than that - we have to be above that right now.

Bungie, you've already done a bunch - if you did more, that'd be awesome, and they could sure use it, but what is really untapped is what your fans can do by their own power if you merely inspire them further. The more you participate, the more your fans jump on the bandwagon (and what a great bandwagon that is! I'm on it right now!). Please keep that in mind.

Good luck, fellow Bungie freaks.

If you really want to help, send the $20 for a t-shirt directly to the red cross. Yeah the t-shirt thing is great, but people shouldn't need any more incentive to donate then turning on the TV.

What kind of person sits there seeing bodies in the streets, towns underwater, etc and doesn't want to donate, but the possibility of a t-shirt makes them donate?

Get the most for your money, donate directly.

***Not saying that bungie or MS is doing this, but:***
Don't think for a second that a lot of large companies are using this to their advantage. For example, Clear Channel is selling Storm Aid wristbands, then making large donations in their name, so they can claim tax breaks.

It would shock the hell out of me if Bungie did this, they seem like a really cool group of people, but I wouldn't put it past Microsoft.

I'm 17 years old, and I want to help, but my parents think that bungie is only helping the red cross so they can make money off of it. They won't let me donate to the red cross either because of gas prices going up at an extreme rate now...Sure, I know that Bungie'll make some money off of it, but still, I don't see any other gaming company (or as a matter of fact, any OTHER company) trying to help out. I'll try and convince them to let me do it.

$20 might not help a lot, but it's all I can do. I live in Ohio, and if everyone helps out, We'll repair what Katrina has done.

They say when you spin a windows CD backwards, you hear demonic laughter, but that's nothing. When you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Im probly gonna donate 50 $ as soon as i can. I need to wait for my parents to get home so i can use their credit card on the red cross site and then pay them back....Its kinda tough for me to donate more than that.....

  • 09.02.2005 12:36 PM PDT

I'm from chicago, and I've been watching and reading about everything that' sbeen going on, I already donated to a number of places an dI intend on buying a couple T-Shirts and making everyone I know that plays Halo buy one.

Here's a little something to read:

http://joecustoms.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=29653&postday s=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I'm a memeber of a GI Joe toy message board, and there's a couple members there, and we're a pretty close knit group and already, you can see the support that people are getting...
So please help if you can, I dont care where it is, get on the net, find some numbers.. contact your red cross, just do something, I think it's great how everyone is getting together to help eachother... my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy.

ROMANS 1:18

Buy a shirt. I'm married, 2 kids, not a lot of money. Buy a shirt. What if it was YOU there, with your 2 kids, 2 years old and 1 year old. What would YOU do? How would you survive? Buy a shirt. Just make it happen- we're the freaking 7th column for crying out loud. After saving 1 city, taking over the planet will be that much easier.

God- I pray for your mercy, for your love and intervention. Please give these poor people in New Orleans comfort. Help our government to speed up aid to the region. Help our president make the right decisions. Please watch over the powerless, the helpless, the weak. Bring justice to those who take advantage. Father, thank you for organizations getting together for aid to the people who need it. Thank you for everyone who is putting themselves in harm's way to help.

God - I beg you to help these people. Amen.

I appreciate Bungie for something like this. I am from Laplace, LA. My town is only about 30 minutes away from New Orleans. I am glad to say, my town did not experience the flood waters as bad as New Orleans did. When I returned home I only found 2 up-rooted trees and that my whole fence was missing. So after the storm, I had made out pretty good. I do have friends who live and go to school in New Orleans who have lost everything. The storm has affected many people. My dad's business is now almost dead because all of his clients are in New Orleans. Bungie is great for doing something like this. I will make sure to buy at least 2 of the special T- Shirts. Thanks again Bungie!

Sick of flaming, me too, take a vacation Check in time is now

but hey... u guys are damn lucky as i see it
Ok, I understand that your compairing this the the tsumai, but we are nont damn lucky. As I see it, a life lost is nothing to feel lucky about, over 2 to 3 thousand is NOT SOMETHING TO FEEL LUKCY ABOUT. Dead bodies populate the streets, as Shepard Smith put it sitting next to an elderly dead man "This man, and many others are dead, he died along with the city they lived in. Tonight New Orleans is dead" To me, this is not a damn lucky situation, you see I look at it like this, say 2 thousand people die, and each one of those 2 thousand knew 2 people, thats gonna be 6 thousand people directly effected by this, ya'll know its gonna be more, so this is my plea, just donate enough for the shirt, if everyone does at least that much, maybe then the people of New Orleans will begin to feel "damn lucky" but I dought it.

Nicely put operator. I am currently evacuated in Baton Rouge, and the only thing anywhere from channels 3 - 13 on TV,is new on the aftermath of the hurricane. I remember the exact moment operator is talking about from the news.

I'm doing all I can from so far away. My husband is military and we are in England and we watch the news helplessly. We do the donations, our base has started up collections...but there isnt much more we can do. I have many friends down in the area...its just devastation down there. If you can make a donation or give blood, please do.....I really don't know what more I can do....feeling awfully helpless

Hurricane Katrina is a mess, and I have donated food, money and labor, I urge all of you, please, think about the individual human being, put yourself in their shoes, and imagine if it were you and you heard some of the things these selfish hoebags are saying, you would want to beat them wouldnt you? Some sage advice: dont say things you will regret later, because rain befalls the just and the unjust.
