I wish B.net had a post counter. It could give you a counter and then assign ranks depending on your number of posts, like new member, member, veteran member, etc. Most other forums have them...

I'm certifiable.

The last time someone brought this up, I believe that Achronos' response boiled down to, "Over my dead body."

There are more important ways to measure people's contribution here than a raw post count, ways that don't encourage spamming. Maybe we'll see some of the come up, but for now all we're going to get is the "member since" dates.

I really don't mind the join date.

And a post counter deprives the quality over quantity rule.

Trust me, post counters equals trouble!
People will only argue:
"Just because you got more posts than me doesnt mean you can blah blah..."

Trust me, i have seen it before, but it would be nice :D

l wouldn't mind having the site keep track of how many posts l have though. lt would be cool to see how much contribution l made here. Or some forums even give you a percentage of how much you post. Or even something like "Top Ten Posters of the Day." You click this and it tells you the people who posted the most in each forum for that particular day and how many post they made. And the mods can have the power to remove any spammer that make their way onto the list by spamming.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I used to think, in my first months, I had to get known by posting a lot if I ever was to have people respect me, even if that ment always agreeing with the majority. Now, however, I care about voicing my opinions where it matters, and let people decide whether they want to respect me or not.

I think a post counter will only encourage what I believed at first.

I look forward to the karma system as well. As far as I can tell, I'm a good member of the community. Whether people like me or agree with me or whatever, I try to contribute. It would be nice to reap some sort of reward.

I couldn't care less about reaping the rewards. If Bungie lets me use their forums for free, the least I can do is help out. I wouldn't prevent myself from getting a reward, but I think Bungie should have other things being worked on.

I can also easily see that such a system would be abused. If post count were the meter to "judge" oneself against others, I can see that forum rank would be used (just as much as Halo 2 rank) as a reply to someone who a member disagreed with.

Statements as "STFU, you're only a grunt and I am a spartan and we all know that grunts don't know crap about anything!" would abound.

Well to be honest, i use join date in a similar way, i usually discount any information that has come from anyone who has been a member of the forums for less than a month or two, unless it comes from a reliable source. I feel completely obliged to do so, as most people who join this forum, stay for a week, make maybe 10 or 11 topics that we've all seen thousands of before, usually involving the acronym OMGWTFBBQLOL.

I look forward to a karma system, as even though it would require ranks, if you abuse your position as a higher ranking member, you will obviously get bad karma and lose that rank.

But people will make new accounts just to bring one persons karma down. Why should I fear speaking my mind because someone might take me Karma away?

I won't fear it. And, if anyone's like me, they aren't gonna make a second account to make a slight dent in someone's good karma that disagreed with me.

Well if everyone was like you, we wouldn't need six new mods, or even a Karma system.

I'll just put my trust in Bungie and hope for a karma system that can't easily be abused. I guess they could have restrictions on new accounts like the one where you can't post for 24 hours. Speaking of accounts, there are plenty of inaccurate member since dates floating around (mine, Pink Menace's) so they can't all be trusted to be telling the truth.

Well the problem is new members who are polite, intelligent make good humoured posts and know how to correctly operate their shift and caps lock keys are in a severe minority, just straying into zanzibar or new mombasa makes that blatantly obvious

Indeed. Though I must say Zanzibar is far worse than Mombasa.

Any sort of veterancy counter leads to elitism. I've been around here longer than many people and this is my 3rd account (i forget Passwords) and on several occasions on this account I've been abused, amusingly so, for being a newcomer....

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

If Recon is correct, i sure do hope the web team think carefully about this karma system (i'm sure they will). It's all very well to say that Rooster Teeth's karma system works but well what you fail to realise is that we have quite a few more members than they do.

Have you guys ever seen the system they use on redvsblue.com. I think that system would be good on this site. Its where you start of with 25 mod points and depending on wether you post crap or quality posts people can grade your post and either raise your mod points or take them away. That part of it is called your Karma Level. Although this might not work for the immature members since they would downgrade people regardless of what they say over all this system works on redvsblue and they have a pretty big community too.

I personally have always been strongly against implementing any Karma system to the Bungie.net Forums, no matter the type. I could care less if I get rewarded for the things I do for the community. I do them for the community, not the reward. Though Achronos has assured us it will be nothing like the system at RvB, that it would be rating Members, rather than their posts, I am still very skeptical. I guess I will just have to wait and see what turns out. I have full confidence in Achronos, I know he will not do anything to hurt the 7th Column.

  • 09.01.2005 7:26 PM PDT

There's a reason why they got rid of it in the first place.
And as for the karma system, why bother? The community is close enough as it is, people are noted for their contributions and annoyances as it is. A karma system just introduces unwanted competition into an enviroment where hundreds of thousand of people visit. Imagine the chaos.
