I'll be on my own side.

Not really. It's not going to be exactly like RvB's system. It's hidden to prevent people whoring it and using it against each other. We don't want it to end up like Halo 2's ranking system.

Let's say you're in an argument with someone over the Energy Sword and it being cheap. You haven't been on B.net for a while, so your karma is low.You say, "The sword can be countered with other weapons, you know."

The other person, with a higher level will most likely say "Shut up you noob. Look at your karma level. You don't know anything."

I'm speaking in generalizations because anyone who still argues over the sword is probably not the smartest person on the forums.

But if we can't see it, how is it different from now? I just don't get it....

I'll be on my own side.

The mods will probably be able to see it, and award it as necessary, which will probably give us access to other things like exclusive forums and things like that. Plus the mods will know you're not an idiot. That alone is good.

So....that's it? I think the mods already know who is and isn't an idiot.....

I don't have an answer to that question. It's up to Achronos to decide what's put in and what karma does for us.

And having access to an exclusive forum(s) is good, and it would mean something here, because it's up to the mods alone to give you karma, so it would be a forum of only the good posters, and generally the intelligent members of Bungie.net.

That would be nice. But, that's basically The Septagon...

I don't know what it would be like, as I'm not the one who decides.

Besides exclusive forums, what else could we possibly have? HTML in our sigs? I would say custom avatars, but i like how only the mods get those.

AHEM.

I think a system which automatically ranks down people who type in all capitals and use foul language at least twice, doing likewise for people who use "noob" or a variant excessively, would benefit the community greatly; although, since there's not to be too much human input, that's likely to be what'll happen anyway.

Well, you can use your XBL symbol as your avatar. Or if you submit a theme and have it approved you get a custom avatar.

Edit: Sorry Psyched. Forgot about Theme Masters. You can remove the scythe from my neck now.

Tom Achronos
Bungie.net Overlord
twitter: http://twitter.com/Achronos

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

I have an entire whiteboard filed with "special" things we can give people who earn it.

Rewards come after we get the math the way we want it though, which is going to be hard. This system is a ways off.

The entire idea is based around the system making it beneficial to use one account and behave on that account, and be a positive contributor. It isn't supposed to allow you to judge someone else (hence why you don't get to see the user's rating).

  • 09.01.2005 3:37 PM PDT

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I think that getting color tags (Except white and gold, of course) would be neat. Mabye once you're above a certain Karma level you get lime green font? Or light blue?

EDIT: Achronos pwned me.

Sounds promising!

A whole whiteboard huh? Will this be the New Hotness?

I like that idea Pink Menace. I would like small HTML sigs, but that would cause a lot of problems wouldnt it?

Okay. thanks Achronos. That cleared things up quite a bit.

So shouldn't the statement for it's release be Soon(kinda)™

I think you just coined a new level of sooness. There should be a Bungie scale of sooness or should we call it soonity.

Golly, a whole whiteboard full of ideas. I'm assuming those have been copied elsewhere because anyone could come along and wipe away all those ideas.

Oh man, that would be sweet. The highest would be:
Soon(not really)™

I bet that happened more than once during the making of Halo 2 ;-)

Well I am looking forward to having these things implemented Achronos, and I look forward to see them Soon™. Of course the Search must come first, but Soon™ is soon enough for me.

Hey! maybe....... And I think that that also happened when someone wrote down the tru7h.

I'm glad to hear from Achronos that this won't be the generic karma system RvB uses. I look forward to this feature and seeing how it will be implemented. Not to mention, I can't wait for many changes that will happen to Bungie.net over the coming year.

Yeah. I think this place could use some change. Keep things new.

Make rules about the images in sigs like no nudity, if they break em, ban em.
