I guess I'd like to know what criteria a mostly automatic system could possibly go by to rate a user as good. The means to rate a user as bad are obvious, when banned or a topic is locked, they could get minus points. But to rate a user as good would require a fairly large amount of criteria to go by, and a lot more processing power. Not to mention there are those that like to beat such systems by figuring out what makes them tick.
I must be missing something, because it seems to me that it would require a reasoning, logical mind to determine someone's merit.
I just don't like the idea of separating people based on a level of karma. Everyone would know who these people were, unless you were to only subtly reward them, but what subtle reward could possibly be important enough to merit an entire fully automated karma system?
P.S. Hell, why not let everyone rate everyone for a week and see what happens, just for kicks. Might be amusing. :D
