I, along with several other people on the boards are getting tired of people over-using the terms "confirmation" and "confirmed".
con·firm
tr.v. con·firmed, con·firm·ing, con·firms
To support or establish the certainty or validity of; verify. To make valid or binding by a formal or legal act; ratify.
In this forum, when one uses the term "confirmation", usualy all that means is it's on the internet somewhere. When I think of confirmation, I think of an official statement in the FAQ, or front page of the subjects official website; or an official statement made by a reliable source from company XYZ. If you can't call a company and ask about such and such a subject without getting a "We can't comment on that.", it's probably not confirmed.
Another thing is the disgusting use of the word "proof."
I'd like to establish here that there is a difference between proof and evidence. Proof is something that PROVES something, indisputably. Evidence is something that helps your case, but leaves the answers open-ended. Most of the ideas that are claimed as "proof" on these boards, are more suited under the category of evidence.
Thinking twice about your choice of words can save alot of time, and alot of flaming.
