I don't know if it's permanent because Halo 2 is still in development but in the Halo 2 game play trailer when the MC uses the turret, the view is kindove weird. Your whole left side view is blocked but MC himself. You have to keep on moving the turret to the left to see whats over there. I've had people tell me that they won't use the turret just because of that view. You have a better chance of a suprise attack on you. In the heat of the battle some people
( like me ) forget to check there motion tracker, and if your whole left side field of view is blocked someone can easily sneak up on you. l'm not trying to bash it or anything because it does have a good side too. With this view you have a closer look on things instead of like the warthogs chaingun for example. Closer view = better accuracy. But l still think that l would sacrifice accuracy for a better field of view.
What do you think?

I don't like it. I agree with what you said about the left side being blocked.

I don't think it's that big of an issue. It will probably be changed, but if it's not we'll just have to deal with it. You just have to keep moving and look around, which you should do anyway. When you're shooting in the heat of battle you probably won't notice it anyway. I think it should be tweaked a little though.

Some games allow you to switch from 1st person view to 3rd person. So hopefully you can switch back and forth with a push of a button.

I like it. I used the turrets in the E3 demo and it was fine.
