It has been done before for highly anticipated games.

One of the most recent examples I remember of a company that showed great appreciation of it's franchises devoted followers was Blizzard with the release of War Craft III.

Blizzard, well aware of the established and maniacally devoted fanbase that existed for the franchise, offered both a stand-alone & deluxe collector's edition of the game at launch.

While financially a potentially risky move, in the case of a game like WC3 it made sense.

A truly quality game like that has such a deep, long & involving development process that their was a wealth of content that could (& was) made available for those who Blizzard thought would truly appreciate it (i.e.concept art, behind-the-scenes & deleted material, etc.).

With that in mind, their is not a single shred of doubt that most Bungies fans are any less devoted to the HALO franchise.

I am speaking to those of you who have all three trailers at the ready for viewing at any time, use H2 pics for their sreen saver slide shows & desktop backgrounds, have gladly devoured all three books (even if all other reading has been forced fed.. :P), and, of course, still play Halo: CE more than any other game in their collection.

The lore and mystique that Bungie has built within the HALO universe it by far and away one of the deepest I can recall .. and it has only one game to back it up so far .. a concept that continues to blow my mind.

Speaking as a devoted fan, a well put together Halo 2 Collector's Edition (AKA a "True Fan's" or "Bungie Junkie" Edition) would be nothing less than a perfect conclusion to what has been such a long and painful wait for what is anticipated to be the pinnacle of what Bungie & the XBOX is capable of.

And I would GLADLY shell out a premium, even a hefty one, to obtain it.

What are your thoughts?
