the countdown timer on http://www.halo2.com reaches zero at approx 12:20 pm in the pacific time zone. We're all expecting to buy our copies at 12 midnight monday night - but what gives on this discrepancy on the countdown timer? 12:20 pm is 12 hours and 20 minutes after the advertised time. So what time zone does the countdown timer apply to, and what's the 20 minutes all about?

I dont think that we can buy it at 12:00 cause the store is closed. The ppl who work there told me that they call you the day before and then you go pick it up. Im not going to school that day so im just going to wake up at like 4:00 and get there about 5:30'ish and wait for my panic attack. I'm going to be so sweaty when i get the game. :) hahha

okay, so if it's the timezone, then which timezone does that countdown timer on halo2.com apply to? obviously not PST (where Bungie is)...cause the time is off ...

The timer is more there for show.
It's based on when the game is able to be shipped to your location. Canada and Washington state are the two mass-producers I know of. How long it takes them to get to you depends on where you are in corelation to them.

That's why the UK waits an extra 2 days. Our copies are flown across sea to get to their shores.

so why 12 hours - and why 20 minutes?

the countdown isn't for canada or washington - I don't have my time zones memorized.. but we're only 8 hours behind GMT.. which puts 12 hours somewhere in the middle of europe.

I propose that bungie pick a time that makes sense - even if it is for show. at least use midnight GMT or something.

my local store is going to wait until midnight before releasing the copies.. so the 20 minute part is really screwy.

No..... The UK has to wait an extra 2 days because games are not released on Tuesdays. It has nothing to do with shipping. And most stores are doing midnight openings, so I'm getting mine at about 12:02 AM on November 9th, I don't konw about you guys.

No, it doesn't. It's probably just an arbitrary time the admin put for the countdown script. It's probably based on when the admin began the countdown, which was probably 12:20.

  • 08.06.2004 11:56 AM PDT

New Zealand will be the first place on the planet to get Halo 2. The countdown might be lined up with their timezone:)

thanks Shishka

I propose that the countdown be corrected. What's the point of a countdown timer, if it's just for show. This is probably the first countdown timer in the history of countdown timers to be based on an arbitrary event.
