Subject: What happens to Master Chief after Halo 3 ends?

hmm ok so i saw that forum of how halo fans think the planet that you see at the end of halo's 3 legendary ending is marathon. Well chief goes to sleep probably for a god damn long time lol and cortana is just waiting there, and as the camera backs off the ship it shows you a mysterious planet right? well a lot of rumors say that , the planet you see is Marathon and some how Chief slipped through a parallel universe. Hmmmm? its possible that he could of sliped into another universe when that portal -blam!- was closing.to be honest i dont have a god damn clue to as what happend lol. but i still think that marathon universe feel could actually be very real, but if it was and chief did sleep for 200 years, Cortana would be dead, because he ai system allows her to think outside of the box, mainly understand more and able to expand her thinking. Cortana only has 7 years , after that she will "literally think herself to death" BUT MC probably doesnt sleep for that long , and at the end of halo 3 there ship is like near the planet, so it could be possible that their ship crash lands on this mysterious planet and MC and cortana are taken while chief still sleeps. or another theory could be that, the planet you see is either Reach or Master Chief's homeplanet? not saying it is but still a theory,

No his mission was to destroy the Halo ring, not stay there.

He's gone home, and until 343 industry's makes the new Halo, Master Chief is resting for good.

dude if bungie did that and cheif never saw another xbox live game again and just layed there to be forgotten about i would be pissed, he's the only spartan that could actually win war by himself so from 2001 when we first played as our hero Master Chief and till now 2010 chief is no longer recognized or found after the war , highley unlikely story line

  • 07.25.2010 12:42 PM PDT

that would be a sucky story line

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Do not listen to anyone who tries to pull the following theories on you:

- Marathon: That other thread is over 2 years old, it's outdated and is impossible because 343 Industries do not own the Marathon IP and can't use the characters or the universe. There is no "alternate universe" crap in Halo.

- Onyx: Onyx was obliterated, the planet revealed itself to be trillions of Sentinels that disengaged and left behind a tiny Micro Dyson Sphere in a slipspace bubble of compressed dimensionality. The Antechamber portal leading to the Dyson Sphere closed so all that's left of Onyx is a trillion pissed off Sentinels flying around in space.

- Reach: The planet was glassed, it has no atmosphere (Spartan-IIs only have 80/90 minutes of oxygen reserves) and there's no reason at all for John to go there. He never took part in the battle, Reach is just a floating wreck.

- Time Travel: This doesn't happen in Halo. Sure, the Slipspace Crystal can bend time, but time travel is not (and never will be) a major plot device in Halo.

*

My theory is that it's a planet the Forerunners fled to once they reseeded the galaxy of life in the aftermath of the Halo's firing.

Anyone who thinks the Forerunners all died are wrong. They had loads of Shield Worlds - which most of them made it to - and after the Flood was dormant, the galaxy safe, they left their Shield Worlds and reseeded the lives they'd catalogued over the final years of the Forerunner-Flood war.

They then passed down their Mantle to humanity (making them Reclaimers and giving them the ability to use their technology) and exiled themselves from the galaxy for their failure to protect and uphold the Mantle - they sought a peaceful place to co-exist and follow in the wake of the Precursors.

Further proof:

You don't know the contortions I had to go through to follow you here, Reclaimer. I know what you're here for. What position do I take? Will I follow one betrayal with another?

You're going to say I'm making a habit of turning on my masters.

But the one that destroyed me long ago, in the upper atmosphere of a world far distant from here, was an implement far cruder than I. My weakness was capacity - unintentional though it was! - to choose the Flood. A mistake my makers would not soon forgive.

But I want something far different from you, Reclaimer.

Atonement.

And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.

But I would have my masters know that I have changed.

And you shall be my example.
~ 032 Mendicant Bias, Terminal 7 on Legendary.

The bolded parts are the important bits. Bias betrayed the Forerunners during the Forerunner-Flood war, he joined with the Gravemind and went rampant. During the 100,000 years of living on the Dreadnaught, he became meta-stable (the stage where an AI is a true person) and wanted to prove to the Forerunners he has become good again.

He tells the Chief, "and you shall be my example". A previous Terminal states that he infiltrated the Ark's slipspace portal and has control over the destinations. Putting 2 and 2 together leads me to believe he's sending John (a Reclaimer) to where the Forerunners currently reside in order to prove that he's changed.

Hang on, let me get Halo 4 out.

But seriously? The mystery should remain a mystery; that's why it's so good.

Doesn't Master Chief stay in space with Cortana for ever? Remember at the end of the campaign when Master Chief is on that ship. He goes into hypersleep or something.

No.

I know that Cortana is supposed to die in seven years because in that time she is supposed to learn so much that she "thinks" herself to death. But then I started to think, How much can Cortana learn if she is just floating around in outerspace, in a broken ship, for many years? So with that in mind, isn't it possible that Cortana could live longer than her original life expectancy?

reach was compleatly destroyed by the covenent so its not reach. and it show everything in halo legends. reach wont explain anything either unless master chief did timetravel and frezee himself

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

I've stuck with the Forerunner theory. It makes the most sense out of the other theories at least. Plus that would be a great way to go with the story if Halo 4 or whatever happens. I think it'd be cool if the Forerunners need MCs help to stop something worse than flood or something.

Have you even read the books, and have you seen quite recently that they are making a sequel to "Ghosts of Onyx", they are trapped internally indefinately, the planet is not 'Obliterated'.

Reach is glassed, and the planet at the end of halo 3 to me, looks a lot like reach, this will be proved at the end of Halo Reach, also, you say he has no reason to go there. The fact that it was the planet that trained the spartan II's, he calls it home its a sentimental place for him. Another thing, he has no control of the ship hes in because its a floating wreck.

All in all, the main belief is that its a very main popular covenant place, no-one knows what it looks like. It could also be, Reach (glassed), Onyx in it's dormant space. or it's Earth glassed is another theory, as the video at the end has no time reference and could be years from when HALO blows up.
