Prologue
-------------------------------------------------

The war between the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and the Covenant has been going on for many years with no end in sight. Many assume that because the Covenant is made up of various alien races they are trying to subdue the Human race, and incorporate them into the Covenant. However, the Covenant only wishes Humanity's destruction, because the humans are thought to have destroyed ancient relics that the Covenant view as sacred. To stop this genocide the UNSC initiated the Spartan programs which would genetically augment soldiers, and equip them with the most powerful armor the UNSC can build: Mjolnir.

Mjolnir is very streamlined and lightweight compared to the armor worn by the common troops. When soldiers are fully augmented and equipped with Mjolnir, they stand approximately six to seven feet tall, have superhuman strength, speed, and agility.

The Elites, the Covenant's top soldiers, have been trying to wipe the Spartans from existence because they pose a serious threat to the Elites and the Covenant. The Elites are tall, aggressive, strong aliens that place high value on honor. The common Elite soldiers wear blue armor, the Commanders wear red, and the Zealots, the toughest and most feared Elites, wear gold armor.

It is now time for humanity to end the war once and for all, and prevent the destruction of the galaxy.

Chapter 1
-------------------------------------------------

The Spartans of Omega team are some of the best graduates of the Spartan-III program. They were trained to never fail a mission even if that meant sacrificing their lives to accomplish it. This was one of those times that Omega team might not return from their mission. The Covenant leadership was trying to establish a base of operations in a remote sector behind UNSC lines for the purpose of cutting their supply routes. The Spartans of Omega team were called in to make sure that didn't happen.

This was supposed to be an easy assignment, thought Hunter, get in, eliminate the Covenant leadership in this sector, then get out. However, fate seems to have other plans. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. We need to either fulfill our mission, or retreat and let the Covenant claim this sector. I'm not about to let that happen

Hunter was the leader of Omega team. He made the decision to go through with the mission even though they lost most of the equipment at the drop zone. Despite the warnings of the team's scout, Aguila, when they lost their Warthog to an ambush team of Elites, Omega team continued with their mission. The team could have used this four-wheeled light reconnaissance vehicle to move more easily over the terrain.

They finally reached their objective when a flight of small, purple, one-man aircraft called Banshees flew over and spotted them. The pilots raised the alarm, alerting the entire base to the team's presence. Elites poured out of the base and surrounded Omega team before they had time to react. Unknown to the Elites, one of the Omega Spartans, Casper, wasn't present. He was moving into position even as the team was being spotted by the Banshees' pilots. Once Casper reached his position he sent Hunter a green light.

The Elite commander walked up to Hunter and said, "You were fools to come here! We are the Covenant! No one can stop us!"

Hunter just laughed because he knew that this commander had made the same mistake as all the others: he got careless in the face of supposed victory.

"Why are you laughing?" the Elite said, stepping closer to Hunter.

"Because," Hunter said, "you are about to die."

The Elite ignited his energy sword and was preparing to execute Omega team when out of nowhere four shots rang out, and four Elites dropped to the ground dead from headshots. Kai, the teams heavy weapons specialist, sprinted straight for cover, firing his rocket launcher when he got there to provide support for the rest of the team. The Elite, while caught off guard, was ready for anything. He lunged at Hunter with the sword, but Hunter used his suit's armor lock to make himself momentarily invincible. Aguila, taking this opportunity, sprinted into the stunned Elite and knocked him off his feet.

"Aguila that that sword, and head into the main building!" cried Hunter.

"Yes sir!" replied Aguila as he ran into the complex.

"Casper provide support as Kai and I clear the compound." said Hunter.

As Kai and Hunter moved into the compound to follow Aguila, Casper moved into a better position to help keep any remaining Elites off their backs. The Spartans moved through the compound methodically clearing the outer buildings of Elites before moving on to the inner buildings where the Elites were already trying to find Aguila who sprinted through, and killed their commander moments before. Taking this opportunity, Kai and Hunter quickly and quietly assassinated the remaining Elites searching the area. Following Aguila as best they could, they finally caught up with him outside the doors to the command bunker.

"The Elites sure know how to put up a fightwhen they have the numbers." commented Aguila.

"But when you catch them off guard they run and hide like the cowards they are!" said Kai angrily.

"No matter," said Hunter, "the mission is almost over. Prepare to breach the door."

As the team was preparing to set the charges, the doors opened and a lone Elite stood in their way.

This Elite is different Hunter thought.

The Elite roared in challenge, and pointed first at the sword in Aguila's hand, then at Hunter.

"I accept your challenge!" Hunter replied.

The fight lasted longer than expected considering this was a Zealot Hunter was fighting and not just an ordinary commander. First the Zealot charged Hunter to test him. Hunter met the test by deflecting the blow, but just enough to avoid losing his arm. Then, because the Zealot appeared off balance, Hunter decked the Zealot with his shoulder attempting to knock the Zealot to the ground. The Zealot was prepared for this and activated his own armor lock, which stunned Hunter and dropped his shields. The Zealot moved faster than expected and held his blade to Hunter's throat.

"I am Thal 'Cranamee, and I have defeated the demon!" the Zealot cried.

At the last second, while the Elite was still speaking, Hunter stabbed his blade into the Zealot's side, and ran out the bunker.

"Blow the charges! Now!" Hunter cried.

The charges Aguila and Kai placed during the duel detonated leveling the complex.

As the team approached the landing zone they saw the armed Falcon transport waiting for them.

"Mission accomplished," said Hunter, "Well done. We're going home for some well earned rest."

The team stowed their gear as they climbed into the troop bay. Lifting off, the pilot could see the smoke from the compound in the distance.

"You guys sure know how to leave a party!" he said.

"Yes we do," replied Kai, "yes we do!"

AL is preventing me from having fun. It is also preventing a lot of people from having fun. People who defend AL say they can live without it. It is obviously unfair in many ways.

SO WHY DON'T WE REMOVE/TWEAK IT?

Also, yes, I do goose.

It... kind of sounded like the beginning of a game, no offense. Usually, prologues involve the main character, a villain, or a supporting character in some way.

Also, in the second paragraph, you misspelled "fully".

Thank you for catching the misspell. I am trying to get this posted while fighting sleep so there might be a few of those.

Bite the bullet .

its great, impressive how you took the time to do this.

Thanks. I will try to get the second chapter finished as soon as I can.

Chapter 2
-------------------------------------------------

As the Falcon touched down at the landing zone outside Omega team's base the Spartans climbed out, collected their gear, and prepared to head to the barracks when Hunter got a message over his heads up display (HUD).

"Commander, I need you and your team to come to the conference building right away for a debriefing." the voice said.

"Yes sir, Admiral!" replied Hunter.

Even though the transmission hadn't been broadcast over an open channel, Aguila could tell this wasn't good news from the way Hunter was standing.

He only stands like that when the brass wants us for a debrief, thought Aguila.

"Alright men, stash your gear in the barracks then head over to the conference bulding for a debrief." Hunter said.

"Why can't they just let us get some rest?" said Kai angrily, "We just completed our mission and now I feel like I'm facing another one!"

"Watch it Lieutenant," Hunter replied, "you know the brass needs to debrief us when the information is fresh in our minds."

As the team walked to the conference building, High Command was trying to figure out if the Spartans did their job, or if they just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible.

At the conference building the Spartans crossed the all too familiar plant filled courtyard. Skipping the unnecessary gravity lift in the middle of the courtyard the team moved up the ramp, and to the left into the second floor conference room. Standing at attention, with their hands at their sides, they waited for the brass to show themselves.

"At ease Spartans." a voice said.

"We will get right to the point," the Admiral said, "what did you do after leveling the Covenant complex?"

"Sir?" asked Casper.

"The Admiral wants to know what your team did after you destroyed the complex," the first voice said, "and since you were the first to speak you will state your actions first, Lieutenant."

"Yes sir, General." Casper replied. "I was providing overwatch for my team while they moved through the complex. Once they were safely inside I stayed on the cliff to make sure no Elites were alive in the compound. A few minutes later I saw Kai and Aguila running out of the command bunker. Then the Commander ran out and they destroyed the complex. No one could have survived that magnitude of a blast."

"Very good," the General said, "Lieutenant Kai you are next."

"Yes, sir." replied Kai. "casper killed four of the Elites surrounding us. Then Aguila knocked one off his feet and took his energy sword. The Commander ordered him to run into the complex and clear a path to the bunker. I dashed for cover and started shooting Banshees out of the sky. Once the area was clear, the Commander and I followed Aguila, and finished clearing the complex. We caught up with him at the door to the command bunker. A Zealot stepped out and challenged the Commander to a duel. Aguila and I proceeded to plant the charges around the complex. Then the Commander ran out of the bunker telling us to blow the charges. Which we did, leveling the entire complex."

"Lieutenant Aguila," said the Admiral, "tell us what happened while you were away from the group."

"Yes Admiral." replied Aguila. "Sprinting into the complex I cut down several Elites with the energy blade. I killed an Elite commander as I reached the command bunker. After a few minutes, Lieutenant Kai and Commander Hunter showed up."

"Alright. Commander tell us about the duel." a third voice commanded.

"Yes sir." replied Hunter. "I fought as best I could, but the Elite was too strong for me. While he had me kneeling on the ground, he said he was Thal 'Cranamee and that he had defeated the demon. I wasn't about to let him win, so I stabbed him with my sword and ran out of the building."

"Did you confirm the Zealot was dead?" asked the thrid voice.

"We didn't need to. The explosion....." started Kai.

"Always check to make sure the target is dead Lieutenant!" said the General angrily.

"Commander," the Admiral said, "because of you inability to fulfill the mission, we are benching you until after the next mission. Kai will be in command until then. Dismissed."

The Spartans left the building saddened by the thought of an incomplete mission. On the way to their barracks they stopped by the hangar to thank the pilot for getting them home safely, then slowly made their way to the barracks to get some much needed rest.
