I just recently watched "National Security" with Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn. I've also caught a glimpse of Chris Rock's new Stand-Up Comedy routine. (I have HBO.)
Point is, both movies have a very redundant element to them: they both monotonously stick to thrashing white people and pointing out racial stereotypes and useless story elements that make me SICK.
Example: Both cops (Lawrence, Zahn) are surrounded by men they suppose to be their own. Bad guys show up, *PLOT THICKENS* and the surrouding SWAT team places their crosshairs on THE COPS instead. Puzzlement; followed by their chief-cop-black guy getting hauled out of the baddies' SUV.
Lawrence: "AW, MAN!! Thah BROTHAH's in on it?... mustah grown up in a white neighbah-'hood."
Don't even get me started on Chris Rock's routine - it was funny, but extremely perversely and distastefully so.
My point has NOTHING AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE or ANY RACE for that matter - it just has to do with the further segregation and fueled hatred / loathing / antagonizing / stressing between the peoples of different colors, creeds, origins, and the sort.
What my point IS however, is how Bungie's Sgt. Avery Johnson maintains the gruff, seasoned-veteran / leadership figure, focused on kickin' ass and motivating his men with a very cool humorous / serious tone and theme.
Example: "Yah ALMOST a man!" and "Smoke 'em if yah got 'em." (Fave line in-game.)
Not something like "Stupid CRACKA, aim fo' dem ALIEN -blam!--asses!!!" or some heavy, stereotypical, curse-filled ebonics-related crap.
Sgt. Johnson: Tasteful, Neutral, and Bad-Ass.
Thank you, Bungie. Thank You.
